Surprised by an early video posting 🤩 Great to hear the blade is performing well. Expect the Ladies will be busy milling as nice weather forecast ahead.
Carbide can be sharpened using a silicon carbide grinding wheel (green wheel) or diamond wheel or hone stone . That is what I use to sharpen carbide tools . Your sharpener should work with the right grinding wheel . You should not have to bend the teeth for set and if you do try it might break the carbide tips off the blade . Carbide will cut nails if you go with a slow feed , it is not good for the blade , if going with a fast feed it usually breaks some of the tips off a blade . I would definitely try to re - sharpen the blades . New tips can be brazed on a blade to fix missing or broken ones and ground to the same size as the other teeth . Bigger blades usually have all the tips changed when they can not be re-sharpend any more .
You could probably get someone to sharpen it. I send all my carbide blades out to get sharpened. Tablesaw, jointer, planer.... the great cut and length of use is why I use them.
My old farmhouse and most of the others in the area I live in (about a 1/2 north of your place) have hickory flooring. About 140 years old and still in very good shape. Rugged stuff!
When the blade gets dull, send it to Woodmizer. I have friends that use Woodmizer sharpening services. They are reasonably priced and do an expert job on the blades. Most people make the mistake of running a carbide saw blade until it is trashed, then it is beyond resharp. You should get along life from that blade with proper care. If you find the right sharpening shop, you can even get the debarking blade rebuilt for a reasonable price.
@@jerrydemas2020 the debarker blade is a brazed on carbide tipped circular saw blade with 3/8" carbide tips. It is special built for the Woodmizer. The tips tend to wear a lot due to the dirt in the bark. The tips can be sharpened or replaced. It is not a big deal to do if you have the equipment. Most good sharpening shops have the equipment on hand.
Contact Boston Saw and Knife, Needham, Mass. I don't know how they are doing today,, but stretching back to 1970 and through 40 years and 5 states I always sent everything to them. Came back sharper than new.

You can use it while the blade is still mounted on the saw. You don't need a special machine to sharpen either. A dremel with a diamond disk will resharpen each tooth, just a short touch to each tooth will do it.
yep, sharpening carbide is no big deal with a diamond wheel. A Dremel would be ok, though a die grinder might be a bit more up to it. Agree with the mask suggestion. I sharpen my 3tpi 112” blades regularly, much better than using them when they’ve lost their initial sharpness as they are less likely to break (and they frighten the life out of me when they let go 😂😂😂). Unlike a circular saw blade, which really does need doing on a proper sharpening machine to keep the accuracy, bandsaw blades are far less fussy - it really doesn’t matter if the odd tooth is a bit different to its neighbours.
You’ve mentioned a number of times your buyer who mills your lumber for flooring. Even featured him a couple weeks ago. It would be interesting if u would video an episode or two of showing him milling your lumber into flooring.
I trimmed a house years ago that had Hickory flooring, handrail, doors and trim, and a wall-to-wall custom Hickory bookcase. I hate to say it, but it was one of the gaudiest rooms I have ever witnessed in my 40 years of carpentry.😆

I'm sure within a 50 mile radius of y'all there are probably half a dozen sharpening services with as much hardwood is cut for lumber in that neck of the woods. Here in Austin I have 3 (4 if you count San Antonio 70 miles away). Cost of sharpening a carbide blade is probably a tenth of less the cost of buying new. That's one of the advantages of carbide blades.

Stellite/Cobalt (same) tipped bands work great too, and are almost as hard as carbide, and can be sharpened with a wheel other than Diamond or CBN. Worth looking into.
John, that is correct. Stellite is a much better choice than carbide for band saws. We even switched from carbide to stellite on our edger saws. You can run sharper angles with stellite too.

Can't you use a carbide rated wheel on your blade sharpening tool to sharpen those blades? I used to work as a machinist and we made our own carbide dies but the grinder had a wheel rated for sharpening carbide. 😁
I dont think they implied that they couldnt get the tools, just that they dont have them. Thats yet another investment and I am sure they will look into it, but at the moment, they may not think its worth it unless they plan to use it a lot more.
Diamond sharpens all my carbide ...from router bits too lathe tools as well as circular carbide tipped blades which i typically send out .... you can get carbide chainsaw blades which are 5$ a tooth here sharpened throwing the m out is nuts
Do not throw them away! Take them in to your local saw shop that has the equipment and let them sharpen them. You will see the savings in the long run.

Get a carbide sharpening (green) stone for your sharpener. They can be resharpened, the cabide part of the blade is welded to the steel part of the blade. If you can get set up to sharpen the carbide blade, you can save $$$. They will cut thru steel with out as much damage as the steel blade gets.
Imagine if you use those blades on soft lumber you would get a better cut and the blade would also last longer. Nicer finish product could sale for more and offset the price difference of the blade You ladies work hard be safe

At Logosol a diamond sharpening disc for their sharpening robot costs 159€. Now I am in no way a blade grlnding expert, but usually it'svonly the carbide that gets grinded. But businessvise: if life of blade is long enough one could sell used blades for "hobbyusers" or to someone who sharpen them and only use new on the mill. For example: if one box/month is enough and no sharpening (also a cost...) is needed it might not be smart to sharpen at all... At least if you can get 20% back if someone buys them, sharpens them and sell for 50% of retail? If sharpening a drill takes two minutes the cost is 1-1,5$ plus sharpening. If a new drill costs 1,40$, sharpening is bad business if the measurement is money...
You beautiful girls should take all that advise about hair being pulled into machinery seriously. When I was 19 I worked next to a young girl who got a few strands of hair too close to a drill press. Her head was slammed into the chuck before she could even scream. She lost a 2 inch patch of scalp. Be careful.
Cutting a poplar log will clen the teeth and some of those slabs looks like you can get a board out of them..I hate to see money going in the slab pile..good job as usual tho!
Your videos would be even better if you would equalize the volume level between your voices and the music you play !! Probably already an option in your video making program : )
Wish we could buy hickory in Europe. We don't have hickory trees and I believe they never were a native species here. During the Ice Age 21,500 years ago hickory trees nearly became extinct in the US as well, but they survived in the Midwest. Lucky you.
Why don't you lift the far end of the 2 ramps to the Mill by 4-6"??? Downhill Rolls. Give gramps a shot at resharpening with angle grinder. Would slowing Travel speed increase the longevity of the blade? HI Smiley. Nice Bun.
In metal working you use a deeper cut with carbide than with other tools. As long as the motor can cope you can really force carbide into the work and get a better tip life.

I would expect the set of the carbide teeth to be rather more precise than ordinary blades, which would make for a smoother cut.

You can sharpen Carbide by hand with a diamond wheel on a 5" grinder. It is time consuming but still cheaper than throwing them away.
We are aware, but as far as I know, we will not be investing in a diamond stone
to re-sharpen these

Rubbing alcohol (methanol) cleans off wet and dry tree sap. Use a large paint brush or sponge and liberally apply it. Turpentine also works.

We scrap all of our “trash” blades so they are eventually melted down and turned into something else
I think it is better not to mix carbide tipped blades in regular saw blade waste, to guarantee the correct recycling.
If the flooring mill will be planing both sides, what advantage is it to have a flatter rough cut face?

Emerald I think a blade sharpener would be a good investment. It's alot of money upfront but your gonna spend it any way buying blades. Using 2 a day.
