    Its funny, we decided on the same settings on our new GH5s, after coming from A7s cameras too. We just leave the hue at 0 though since I find that the different lenses change the hue quite a bit anyway and might as well just fix in post. Great tips on the screen calibration. Loving your work!

    This may be for GH4 but it makes a lot of sense for getting a flat profile for any camera for wedding which you can play with in post. I earlier had a corporate client who wanted a western movie style (he didn't even know what to call it, he told me, "like those films where men on horseback shoot at each other"!). So I added a lot yellow, film grains and lower sharpness in post. Though the client loved it a lot I thought I wasn't good. Thanks for the settings!

    First off, much appreciation on opening up your tips on profiles! Few questions
    1. Do you guys get playback issues when using your external monitors? I have an error (TV Output in progress) from my smallhd Focus I just recieved. I have to goto Playback menu > slideshow > playall and it'll play the most recent video.
    2. What settings did you guys use for the one indoors for Cine-D? I can't wait for the trailer of it!
    3. Are you guys really only using 3 lenses for weddings on the GH5? 10, 17.5 and 42.5? Looking to buy a lens for my gimbal but the Voigts or quite heavy.
    Thanks again I hope you guys share more knowledge of your work as you continue onto create more films with the GH5s.

    • @Whiteinrevery
      @Whiteinrevery  Před 7 lety +3

      1. We only have noticed on the gh5 that playback happens exclusively in the external monitor and we havent figured out a way to change that. Although it doesnt bother us.
      2. We just had the default setting but will mess around with other options as it wasnt the best for certain darker situations.
      3. Yes. We are trying out the 35-100 2.8 panasonic lens for ceremony. that would put us at 4 lenses which is the most we prefer to keep with us at one time for portability.

      Yes its great and is what made me buy the lutify luts. I think most of the sample shots you used in that vdeo however were from the Sony A7s, not the GH5. It would be good to see a similar tutorial with the GH5 with the natural settings you used in this video, and also how you have got on with the vlog mode. I have had vlog since day one and find it a real struggle to grade with!. Also in your other GH5 video you mention utilising the e-stabilisation....do you use that by default with your voigtlanders or only on occasion?

    • @Whiteinrevery
      @Whiteinrevery  Před 7 lety

      we only utilize e-stabilization in rare circumstances where we need it. As for the tutorial, we only had 1 out of 6 examples with the gh5 to showcase for now. That wedding was filmed with this profile mentioned in this video. As for v-log, we still haven't had the time to dive full force into it yet so we will see. We are mainly waiting until the update comes out in a few weeks and will test that out and v-log at the same time. thanks for watching and for the comment.

    How do you get along with the GH5's noise patterns compared to Sony A7S and Canon? - I still struggle. With Canon my work style is exposing for the look I want in camera, which means I lower the exposure for dark shots in camera and not in post. With the GH5 it does not seem to work for me this way due to extreme noise in dark shots with noise in parts of the image that are under 40 IRE. Interested in your work style! Thanks!

    So I've tried these colour setting a few times now. I actually really like them in day light but I have found that they don't handle 800 iso and above so well. it becomes noisy a lot quicker than other profiles (cine-d or portrait). Although I mainly shoot 800 iso and below sometimes I have to shoot between 800 and 3200 and this profile seems to fall apart at those isos. Has anyone had similar experiences?

      I avoid natural profile for exactly that reason. I use Cine-d to give me more dynamic range and post-editing flexibility. The main difference is I bump the hue up to +2 in the picture profile to boost the skin tones.

    Nice i will try it! what do you think about CINE D and CINE V? thanks

    • @Whiteinrevery
      @Whiteinrevery  Před 5 lety +1

      we don't prefer those profiles that much because of the strong orange in that profile as well as how the black levels are handled. Cine V is a little too baked in for our taste.

    This settings work with the g85?

    • @lovefirst6157

      It probably does work try it and see. The one thing is that there is no olpf on the g85 so the default sharpness is really strong

  • @joewhalen7606

    For the hue setting, going to -1 makes the image more green, where as +1 appears to compensate better for the abundance of green from the gh5, is this a typo or am I missing something. Thanks!

    • @Whiteinrevery
      @Whiteinrevery  Před 4 lety

      have you tried out the setting yet? The hue adjustment seems to allow for the best skin tone colors in our opinion and doesn't shift the colors more green when we tweaked this profile.

  • @LucasSwaddling

    Hey, can you explain your process for 'calibrating' your GH5's monitor? Did you copy over a few files from the SD card onto your computer and visually compare? I've been having troubles with this as well, just thought I'd ask. Thanks

    • @Whiteinrevery
      @Whiteinrevery  Před 7 lety

      Yes pretty much. Pulled up the footage in FCPX with a calibrated iMac 5k Retina screen and visually compared the same shot on the camera. The red/oranges we couldn't match perfectly but got it much closer to what it would look like once in post.

    What do you think about the Voigtlander compared to Olympus 25mm 1.2 (and not 1.8)?
    Which one will give me more cinematic and sharpness?

    • @Whiteinrevery
      @Whiteinrevery  Před 7 lety +2

      Voigtlander has more of a cinematic feel and look to it, but I wouldn't shoot lower than 1.4 for sharpness.

    • @Luisorax
      @Luisorax Před 7 lety

      Thank you very much for your answer. I'd recommend you, anyway, looking to the videos of Albert Fast: "here comes the sun" and "summer 2". It's with the 25mm 1.2 by Olympus and looks just too beautiful.
      I'll probably go with the voigtlander!

    Are you guys always shooting 60p and then modifying the clips in post to 24 for slomo? I've always used VFR but trying to switch over to doing it this way-- undecided on what I prefer. What is your post flow for these settings?

    • @Whiteinrevery
      @Whiteinrevery  Před 7 lety +2

      If you use VFR, you lose audio which we really like to have. We only use VFR for 120-180fps options.

    • @evocati6523
      @evocati6523 Před 2 lety

      Pedestal doesn't affect the dynamic range, it's more for matching with other cameras for livestreams. So it doesn't do anything for post. FotoJoseph did a great video on this topic

      @@evocati6523 I disagree. The master pedestal is very valuable to me. I shoot live theatre, concerts and dance shows. Without the master pedestal my blacks would be crushed.

    Just setup the GH5 like this to try for a while. Thanks for the tips. Any thoughts on setting up your custom settings?
    I use C1 for my normal 4k 24P shooting - with autofocus
    C2 for normal 4k without AF
    C3-1 for 4k 60P with AF
    C3-2 for 4k 60P without AF

    • @Whiteinrevery
      @Whiteinrevery  Před 7 lety +1

      We no longer use the C1-C3 settings as our white balance, shutters speed, iso and other various settings would not carry over from our Manual Video setting. For instance, it's easier to just change our resolution and frame rate instead of all those other settings.

    • @my-max-media7621
      @my-max-media7621 Před 7 lety +1

      I use C1 for UHD 30p (can't stand the panning judder in 24p).
      C2 for UHD 60p
      C3-1 for 120fps (25%)
      C3-2 for 180fps
      It's just a flip switch to go from AF to MF.
