  • This video is about fly tying for trout, the best dryfly for Trout? We will show you how to tie the ugly fly. This pattern is originally designed by one of the very best French fly fishermen, especially for big wild trout in the Jura region in France. These wild and educated fish are some of the hardest fish to catch on a fly rod! It has been used all over the world now and with great succes. If I could only bring one dryfly with me to the river this will be the one for sure. We will also show you how you can easily make your own dubbing that we need for this pattern.
    Hope you enjoy this video and please subscribe to our channel!
    Tight lines!

      Qflyshop Fly Only! Worked good ,fished burnt tree to town. Fished it both as a dry and emerger worked both ways . Going to tie up more on different color combinations. May even tie in 18 and 12

    Awesome quality tutorials! I love buggy flies. I would fish that with & without the wing too. I don't fish dry flies too often, my most productive patterns are the Usual (pulled under the surface too 👍 especially by structure in faster currents) and a varient of Tom Rosenbauer's snowshoe emerger that I tied subbing peacock sword for the shuck and grizzly hackle for the cdc, I had no idea what cdc was at the time nor what colors matched the specific mayfly hatches. The only curved hooks I had were bait hooks so I used an Eagle Claw model 042 (similar to Mustad C49) This was in the late 80's, I believe, when I really got into tying.
    Anyway what makes that Darrell Martin hook your favorite? Does that "curve" make it sit different on the surface?
    Also the "hare" pelt you use, English like the "mask"? I think they're a different specie then the cottontail pelts I have from hunting but I should be able to use mine. Thanks for the two tutorials I just watched. Both were very professional and informative. Wish CZcams was around 35 years ago, learning would have been easier! 👍😎

      Joe Duca We are lucky with all the materials we have available today 😉 The 1220 hooks indeed make them float differently on the surface, much more like the actual bugs. It also creates a wider opening which is great when using smaller hooks. Not sure about the difference between the two hare species. As long as it has long guardhairs it should work just fine. I also fish them without the wing! Also great when drowned like you mentioned. Thank you for your kind word and it is amazing how we can see someone from the other side of the planet tie some flies... thanks CZcams 😃

    Looking for advice concerning value of a vintage collection of hand tied and autographed flies by lee Wulff. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated for information sources.

    What vice do you use/recommend?

    • @maarten846
      @maarten846  Před 3 lety

      Let me start off that this can be a very personal choice. I have more than one vice and they all have their strong points. But the very best all round vice for me is the Renzetti Master vice. But they also have some entry level vices that are amazing and will last you a live time. Let me know if you have more questions!

    Instead of hare fur, could you use Awesome Possum dubbing?

    • @maarten846
      @maarten846  Před 4 lety

      Hi Todd, I have never used that dubbing. As long as it's spikey you should be ok!
