The way the Xperia 1 IV is treated here is like me giving my DSLR or mirrorless camera with modes beyond Auto and handing it to my mom to take pics and having it set to Auto for her to point and shoot. You missed the point of the phone's intended audience and instead made generalizations. Good job 👍 guys. Good thing you called it a blind test.

The Pro i also makes in the P or Automatic mode better photos than e.g. Pixel 6 or S21ULTRA .The images have better colors, more details and there are no processing errors.Auto focus is also better. Sony doesn't have anything like that.I have had all three devices for at least 6 months each and can therefore also compare them. Photography is my hobby and I can easily use the manual features to get the shots I want, however with a bulk of my cell phone pictures being of my kids, both of who are under 3 years old, I simply cannot get by with a camera that will take the required effort the Sony would to provide good shots. So that eliminated it from the get go. I ended up buying and returning a Pixel 6 Pro and an iPhone 13 pro and went with the S22 Ultra. It gave the best overall, and most natural pictures for me

All phones have manual settings and if you’re using a pro app would get much more than any stock cam. Choosing a phone as a point and shoot camera means the best out of the box results or you’ll miss the shot trying to adjust what looks best and this doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get the best!
Otherwise if you want a pro cam, no phone can match a DSLR in most situations.
One more thing, it’s the fastest processing and the most consistent and reliable while all others take silly long time for processing and do post-processing and result in not a reliable or consistent results. That’s important.

This is not a good and fair comparison - First, the 1 IV still runs pre-production software, whereas the other two phones have gotten multiple updates. Second, you can't maximize 1 IV's potential by just using its auto mode. The device is not intended to be used in this way. A lot of the scenarios with preference of brighter/darker exposure, you could just dial in some adjustments.

I think it's also important to remember that the Sony is still in pre-production so what we get here isn't the final result. Also, what we think "looks good" can also be subjective. Sony's traditional approach has always been taking pictures and videos as how we see in real life, not what we think looks colorful or contrasty.
I would even argue I prefer some of the Sony's night shots more because it's how we're supposed to see things at night, he even mentioned at 19:19 "he couldn't see anything" which was the point of the Sony looking too dark.
The iphone makes night scenes look bright, but in reality, the scene was probably much more darker and pitch black like how night time should actually look. 19:48 clearly illustrates this how the Sony and Iphone comparison is literally night and day. You cannot see the stars as clearly like how the Samsung and Sony did. 20:15 is a good example when taking it right with the Sony and how the night sky should look.

Thanks for all the effort. It's a lot of time and energy taking photos with all 3 multiple times, prepping them for the comparison and etc. However, when you mentioned portrait shots, do you mean you use the tele lens? Because I can be taking a portrait shot of a person with the wide lens instead of the telephoto. It would be good if you point out which lens you are using when taking for each set of those photos, whether it's the telephoto, the wide or the ultrawide. I do believe it makes a big different which lens you use when taking the photos. It's easy to twig the results when different lens are used when doing these comparison. Also, some companies put more emphasis on the main (wide) lens and the other 2 are just bad. Although megapixel should make a huge different, but it does to some extend. Thanks again!

Well, Sony's colours are the most accurate to real life generally. Thing is... people tend to prefer extra pop and saturation. Personally, I prefer accuracy. I don't want pictures to try and improve on what I'm seeing in real life. I want pictures to capture what I see in real life. Also... it's often easy to tell the Sony ones apart because they don't oversharpen stones and whatnot. So basically whenever those textured rocks don't look extremely sharp, it's Sony's picture.

99.9% of the people who use phone cameras will use them in auto mode without fiddling with the settings. So the team’s approach in reviewing those phones is correct; they are focusing on the typical user. And to address some people’s remarks, it makes no sense to buy a phone to shoot in raw mode, mainly because the sensors are still very small compared to a full frame camera sensor, so you will not get bokeh, subject isolation, or even the high dynamic range you typically get in a modern camera. You guys give too much attention to color and non technical aspects of the image. I wouldn't evaluate that way because its too personal and can be fixed so easily later. I would give most of my points to the edge detection on portrait mode and detail on night mode.

iPhone and Samsung did a great job in image processing, while Sony's photos had a RAW-like look. It uses camera sensor output instead of AI or good image processing like the iPhone and Samsung. In this comparison, we can clearly see that Sony Xperia photos need some serious manual tweaking and editing.
The iPhone and Samsung are the best point and shoot smartphone cameras right now. On the other hand, Xperia is like handling a DSLR. You need to master handling all the manual controls. I don't know how many people have that amount of patience. Great video, guys. 👍

Well said. Also, Samsung and iPhone bottom line is ‘best all rounder’ whereas Sony are really playing a different game here. The Xperia has a headphone jack for a start. The screen format takes a little getting used to but honestly the Sony screen is a delight to use compared to the iPhone: immersive and detailed and that’s before we talk about speakers and sound. One of these kids is clearly doing his own thing and frankly I love Sony for that. Sure, you might have to work slightly harder for your random point & click but everything else in the Xperia cannon is quietly impressive. A better comparison might look at everything like ‘how irritating is the Samsung UI before I slam it against a wall?!’ or ‘how the hell do I switch this iPhone off???!’

Pro =/= manual camera control. A pro in any type of field, in this case content creation, is always goal-oriented and emphasise opportunity cost. Being able to create usable content with minimal effort and in turn achieve more with the time saved, arguably fits a 'pro' more. And also both the iPhone and Samsung could attain manual camera controls with apps.

Guys have you ever used a dslr before, have seen images come out of them, the shadows vs midtones vs highlights how they are well balanced according to the lighting source?! Bringing up shadows like most of the images u choose must be brought up in post not simultaneously from the camera and the dynamic range is measured by how you can pull that shadows and highlights in post. You cant judge any camera phone because it shows what your eyes sees and not to being processed first
