Here we have Dante Alighieri’s ’The Divine Comedy’, translated by Robin Kirkpatrick and published in a new edition by the Folio Society. This edition, which first appeared as a limited edition, is illustrated by Neil Packer and has a 33-page essay by Jhumpa Lahiri.
The book is bound in printed and blocked textured paper and comes with an illustrated slip-case. It has a Smyth-sewn binding that opens up perfectly well. The paper used is Abbey Pure paper which is thick and really smooth. It’s a great quality paper that is acid-free pH neutral. The text-size is large. The book is printed and bound by LEGO in Italy.
Neil Packer has made 3 full-page color illustrations and 100 illustrations, one for each Canto, which is really impressive. The book is printed in 2 colors throughout. The endpapers are also illustrated in a gold metallic print.

Is glue sometimes used even in Smyth sewn binding? How then to distinguish it from hybrid binding?
I have the very excellent Barnes and Noble leatherbound edition of this. But this version is so incredible, I might just take the plunge!

i don't recommend this to anyone, it sure may look good online but when you receive it in person it may be a bit of a shock. The entire book and slip case is covered in these little marks which are akin to as if someone has grabbed a pen and drawn little lines everywhere. Not to mention the fact that this book has paper binding too, i was highly disappointed when I received mine.
