    Hi. Could you tell me which fertilizer is best to use for this Purple Leaf Flowering Plum tree and Kwanzan flowering cherry tree. Thank you!

      They don't require any special types, so any of the ones that you will find at our partnering garden centers: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ should be fine. Just make sure its a balanced formulation.
      David likes to use the slow release types that provide a controlled amount of nutrition over time, and only have to be applied once. But there's other alternatives that work well too. So, if you are in doubt, have a chat with the experts at the centers and they'll give you their guidance.

    What’s the best way to prune these trees?

    • @OverdevestNurseries
      @OverdevestNurseries  Před 7 měsíci +1

      The good news is that generally these trees don't require much pruning, and because pruning wounds can expose them to gall disease infection from "Black Knot" and viral diseases like "Necroctic Ringspot Virus" they are usually better left untouched. So unless there's a few minor broken or damaged limbs to be treated, we would suggest either leaving them alone or employing the services of professional arborists who know what they are doing. In our nursery we are careful to do all our pruning using hygienic, clean, sharp tools and perform it at times of the year that minimize the exposure to disease pathogens. And very importantly, we go to a lot of effort to make sure our trees are well-formed with shapely heads that grow out well and do not usually need remedial pruning. We hope this helps.

    Hi, when is a good time to plant one?

    • @OverdevestNurseries
      @OverdevestNurseries  Před rokem +1

      Since they are grown in pots (with a special technique that prevents "root girdling"), they can be planted during a very wide window (Early Spring - Early Winter). We are busy shipping fresh supplies to our partnering Garden Centers: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ from NOW onwards.
      So if you contact some of your local places ASAP, you should be able to pick your specimens (ahead of other folk) and get your trees off to great spring start.

    Do these trees produce plums?

    • @OverdevestNurseries
      @OverdevestNurseries  Před 2 lety +2

      I am told older mature trees can sometimes bear some small quantities of fruit that resemble small, hard plums, but I hasten to add that we've never seen any fruit on our young trees. So it is purely an ornamental tree.

    Are these trees sterile?

    • @OverdevestNurseries
      @OverdevestNurseries  Před 2 lety +1

      I don't think so. We've never seen any fruit on our young trees but that is probably due to their stage of maturity. I understand, they might occasionally produce some fruit but I have never seen any... Just good shape, nice flowers and beautiful foliage.
