    For all wondering why water vapor/mist formed in the cabin:
    Shown here is a rapid depressurization. As the pressure falls, the air expands, which lowers the air temperature. As you know, water vapor (humidity) is found in the air normally. If the temperature of the air falls below the dew point (varies based on humidity and pressure), the water vapor condenses out of the air and forms a mist.

    1. you're only seeing super recent comments because the creator set the default comment sort order to "Newest first" instead of "Top comments"

      It's also why we can't pump water through a pipe above certain height, 33ft?
      because water will turn into steam in the pipe eventually while going up, with colder water you might get a bit more height but it's futile to the point we need a water pump ever 30 ft up to pump water any higher...😂

    • @naldoxable
      @naldoxable Před 6 měsíci +3

      @@RSAgility not really, the reason is because of the atmospheric pressure became equal to the force of the water column, no boiling water inside the pump :)

    • @MatthijsvanDuin
      @MatthijsvanDuin Před 6 měsíci

      @@RSAgility ehh, that's not really a related phenomenon at all... Also, you can pump water upwards just fine as long as you put the pump at the bottom, not at the top, i.e. you can push the water up but not pull it up. The pressure required will however quickly get very large, so it'll usually be more sensible to use multiple smaller pumps along the way.

The upper fuselage tore off the aircraft and a flight attendant was sucked out over the Pacific Ocean. There were no passenger fatalities and the aircraft made a successful emergency landing on the island I believe. Due to that event all aircraft, in order to maintain Airworthy certification, had to have detailed inspections for what are called scribe lines on the outermost skin of the aircraft. It's a deep subject but just know that rules in the industry changed and so did the culture around using any type of metal tools on or near pressurized areas of the fuselage. Now there are a variety of plastic tools which cannot scratch the aluminum skin of the plane.

    My husband was on United flight520 May 27 2018 on the 11:35 am flight from New Orleans to Houston and this happened at the end of his scary flight! They took off got to cruising altitude of 239000 feet and within a few minutes the oxygen masks dropped. Captain came on radio and said were loosing oxygen and depressurizing this is not a malfunction,everybody put on the masks and buckle up ASAP! He then said we have to drop below 10k feet to get to safe oxygen levels and we have to do it quick so buckle up!They made the nosedive down from altitude of 23900 to 9900 in 6 minutes. He said he heard the Stuart’s say they had a leak and loosing pressure. The whole time no cool ac and he said everybody including him was having a really bad time with the pressure on ears. When they finally landed and stopped sirens started going off and the pressure got so bad he said it was hard to breathe, felt like throat was closing he said. Everybody’s hands covered ears and their heads went down between their knees. Pressure was so bad he couldn’t hear himself speak, couldn’t hear the person a foot away speak. Kinda like a silence. Then the cabin filled up with this smoke/steam/fog. He says everybody thought plane was on fire. Then the captain comes over radio and says the doors are not opening because of the pressure. After about ten minutes they finally open. He was supposed to get on an international flight to Trinidad/port of Spain and he cancelled his trip because of the ordeal. Said it was scary as hell!

    The pressure in the cabin is lowering so the air inside is allowed to expand, which causes it to cool off. When the plane depressurizes, the temperature is suddenly low enough for the water to return to the liquid state from gas. The water forms small droplets that clump around dust in the air, which are big enough to see. What you're essentially looking at is fog forming in the airplane. Pretty cool.

    lower pressure air can hold less water vapor, so the the air quickly hits 100% saturation and the remaining water vapor becomes a cloud

    • @mistrzdemograficzny4218
      @mistrzdemograficzny4218 Před 6 měsíci +2

      No, you are wrong. Air can hold MORE water vapor at a lower pressure. The actual reason the water vapor condenses is that lowering the pressure causes the air temperature to drop faster than the dew point.

    • @DANGJOS
      @DANGJOS Před 6 měsíci

      @@mistrzdemograficzny4218 Indeed. Although I would say that it's better not to use the word "hold" at all because it causes misconceptions and is not what's happening anyway. Water vapor can exist with zero air, so air doesn't need to "hold" anything.

    It’s amazing to see the water hit its dew point in real timer. If you want to understand what’s going on here think about when you spray a can of deodorant and the can of deodorant starts to get cold, well that’s what’s going on here. The pressure wanting to reach equilibrium with the air pressure outside the plane and the drop in pressure as the air rushes out of the cabin causes the cabin to rapidly cool and the water in the atmosphere hits its dew point and that’s what your seeing.

    This is probably what a slow decompression would look like. By definition...a slow decompression takes more than 10 seconds to lose pressurization. A Rapid Dempression is under 10 seconds. An Explosive Decompression is less than 1 second with a 10 psi differential between cabin and cruise altitude. The slow deompression is more dangerous of the 3. Read on the Helios and Payne Stewart Lear accidents. I have personally been through probably 1000 decompressions vis research and training as a Physiologist in the USAF and FAA altiude chambers.

      I long ago did a computer simulation of how long pressure equalization takes for a widebody at cruise altitude which loses a cabin window and then dives at I forget what angle. It was about thirty seconds until the internal/external pressures matched for the scenario I modeled.
      An interesting aspect is how flow at the window hole starts out as something called "choked": It can't get above sonic because that would require the proverbial convergent/divergent section like in a sold-propellant rocket motor. With just a simple hole in a flat surface, the flow gets to sonic but has to stay there. Then of course as the pressure differential drops it drops below sonic.

    Nothing too exciting about rapid depressurization, no large amounts of loose paper and debris flying around the cabin. No lights flickering on and off. The clouds forming inside the cabin is a pretty cool touch though. Hollywood will never show what true rapid depressurization looks like because it's fairly boring. Unless a sizable hole is blown out of the fuselage, having rapid depressurization is not much to look at. Great video

      It depends because this plane was in the ground, keep in mind that if this Was being done at 30,000 feet in the air, it would have looked a lot different if there was a hole in the window. So is not that Hollywood gets it wrong, it’s that there’s a time and place where that exact outcome can happen.. but not in the ground while there is no damage to the hall
