I have watched hundreds if not thousands of these knife belt grinder videos and this one is by far the easiest to understand. I never pass up an opportunity to learn something because I believe you can always learn at least one thing from every person you meet. Please elaborate on exactly how you would approach it, in specific details, and with what bits, points of measure, etc. I use to run a 6 position Turret Lathe in a Machine Shop, and have run the simplest of Vertical Mill/Drills machining Keyways into driveshafts for Horticulture Equipment. @42LUNCHBOX if you can actually run those machines and fabricate a tool, then you know damn well the way this guy did it wouldn't fly in any fab shop. If it would fly in your fab shop, you must be working for the govt. because this way takes way to long for an inferior product. Of course, you might be ok with riding the clock and shitty work. That wouldn't fly in mine.

@@johnmichaels4330 thanks for your input. I appreciate your opinions. Some people work with what they have, and excel with little. Impressive considering what this guy could do with proper training and access to CNC equipment and exotic metals. His brian obviously operates at a higher level to conceive of, much less manifest these creations with what he can afford. Add his vision for creative manufacturing with creative video production, and you get a very inspiring and entertaining CZcams creation. There is another You tuber that build a turning tool using two huge bearings and turning the working piece inside the inner diameter of the bearing. I wanted to make a similar machine, but huge bearings are really expensive in Canadastan. I will use three shaft with 2 small bearing each to turn a 4" pipe and use the inside diameter to hold my Working pieces. This will work nicely, be more stable and be less expensive.

Very impressive work and a very well made creative video with some banging tunes. As an old school tool and die maker my only concern would be the balance of the rollers because I’d say it’s very difficult to achieve concentricity using your construction method. I imagine this might cause a bit of vibration when operating the finished tool. A centre lathe would have come in very handy although I appreciate that would have taken away from the theme of the build.
Very engaging vid regardless. I’ve really got to get a welder.

Define "good metal worker". He shows skill and talent in his techniques, but is it "good" to spend 6weeks labor plus hundreds of dollars in materials to build a single machine that you can buy off the shelf for less than $500? How much is his time worth? If you assume $15/hour and a 40 hour work week, those 240 hours costed $3,600 USD for a $500 tool...and that's BEFORE you factor in material cost! No one would describe a wasteful, inefficient worker as "good".

@@markallen8027 You have to be american lol, first of all, those sanders doesn't cost 500 bucks, efin ignorant, materials also doesn't cost even 200 dollars. And the labor, is valued in experience, like any DIY channel. And in this exchange of labor vs money, that's how many people put their own place. Doesn't make any sense that you think he is losing money :D. Is just stupid and a cry for attention to leave this cloud in here.

@@anubratachakraborty1370 I did say his metalworking shows skill and solid technique. And there's no doubt his editing is top notch and his videos are entertaining. But you have to admit it's objectively wasteful to spend so much time and material on a product that can be purchased off the shelf for far less. Unless this video gets hundred of thousands of views; He's going to lose money on this project. If that's "good" from your perspective, who am I to argue with that?

This was well done, but please consider wearing personal protective equipment (i.e gloves, coveralls, eye and breathing protection. I've lost count of the number of colleagues or hearing stories of welders who ended up with melanoma forming on their arms through the constant exposure to high levels of UV light from the arc from not keeping them covered, or those who developed chronic obstructive pulmonary disease through inhaling vaporised zinc or cadmium plating on bolts, nuts and washers or just the preserving oil on steel.

How i wish to had a workshop to tinker with things, i might not have your craft and talent, but time patience and learning goes a long way to solve anyone needs, hoping to move to a house with space for a workshop before getting too old.
