This really brings back memories. I sailed on that old Princess of Vancouver many a time.
"The Highrise". I lived on the 10th floor in my early 20s. My family moved to Nanaimo in October, 1967. This is the Nanaimo of my youth!
The Princess of Vancouver was such a beautiful ship.
I love it! This is how I remember my home town, Nanaimo!
Hi Marie, good to see some familiar names
@@grumpymedik Hi. Would I recognize your name as well, do you think? :)
I seem to recall seeing and riding the Princess of Vancouver later than 1973. I've lived in Nanaimo since 1977 so it makes me wonder if she wasn't in service here beyond that time. According to Wikipedia she was sold to the BC Ministry of Transportation in 1981 to begin service between Comox and Powell River in 1982. Nice to see that view of Nanaimo Harbour from years ago.
Yes. I first lived in Nanaimo from 1977 to 1978, moved back to Manitoba & didn't return to Nanaimo until 1986. When I lived in Nanaimo, I regularly too the CPR ferry. It was not only gorgeous & classy but also a wonderful, economical & quick way to get from downtown Nanaimo to Downtown Vancouver. No car was needed as it was so simple to catch the bus in either city apart from the fact that Nanaimo didn't run buses on Sundays back then!!!
Agree, both the Princesses of Nanaimo and Vancouver were much classier ferries than anything BC Ferries ever ordered to serve the Vancouver-Nanaimo run. But while downtown to downtown service was a "no brainer" for walk-on passengers, it eventually became a disadvantage for the CPR because vehicle passengers from New West, Richmond, North Vancouver etc. began finding it much easier to reach Horseshoe Bay and Tsawwassen, boarding government vessels at roughly the same cost (or less).
Please tell me you have old pictures of 215 Newcastle Ave
