S-bend is at 15th and Oak. You see the drivers passing a schedule as they pass! East side of Oak St. at 33rd heading South was still forested. Oakridge Mall was not completed til 1959. So that area was not much deforested until Eric Hamber School was built in 1962. South side of Oak past Shaughnessy was not much developed at that time!

Expo opened the door to Asian investment in real estate. The provincial Liberals welcomed the money launderers. And now the federal Liberals have given up even controlling mass immigration. I’m homesick for my home town . Been living here for 35 years and it’s just no longer the same city. My hometown of Vancouver no longer feels like home.

My personal attraction to being or wanting to be a Hippie was the Openness and Freedom that I believed I saw compared to an Alternative that I felt was restrictive (sex only within marriage); and many people in so-called Straight society I found to be unkind and judgmental;

pretty dull.

Now it's mostly gone to affluent foreigners who bought up the real estate, pushing out regular citizens to the more affordable outskirts of this once paradise. International GENTRIFICATION brought on by our own ambitious Governernment sponsored Tourism/Realestate mob....:+[

The Long Beach clips .... I was in the bed of a pickup truck swerving its way down the beach. I anticipated the truck rolling over and jumped out. It rolled shortly after I bailed out. Some of the guys in the truck got hurt - broken arms etc. If my memory serves me (not always the case), I think Pat Squire (son of the MLA) was the driver.

I was here in Vancouver BC in September 1985 for a medical exam. It was so laid back, people were happyer nicer, kinder, and you could talk to anyone, now nobody wants to be next to you let alone look at you, the only ones now that do look at you is a narcissist that's jealous of you even though it's the very first time he or she seen you. Now Vancouver is just full of dumb people with zero IQ, and the worst drivers ever. Just plain dumb now.😔😔😔🤨🤨😳

Bygone era...

In 72 we did a similar trip to VI, I remember swimming at Crystal gardens and of course a visit to Butchart gardens. The Island isn't what is used to be that's for sure.

I wish I got to see Vancouver when it was a place where people lived and worked. The place had character. Today the city is soulless and depressing.

Use to be a TV show, part of it featured two cops, one my Dad boxed with ,the other my Dad played the Pipes with and served along side in the Seaforths..

Flew from Vancouver on a Connie to prestwick via Winnipeg, gander, Iceland 26 hours may 1960. Lived at 41st Yew Kerrisdale...

Calgary was ruined too as of 1988 Olympics when unknown cowtown Calgary was put on the world map, and the floods came... of people, which instantly turned new districts into ugly cookie cutter two and three story behemouths, and now where our Liberal Canadian government spends billions on other countries, trying to save the world, and all the money disappears into the corrupt countries we tried to save, eg. Haiti where we sent 400 million dollars, and nothing changed for the better over there, and so called refugees coming here get more assistance before any of their money is contributed in the form of income tax, and we who were born here and paid our dues for decades get way less help! The amount per child that the newcomers get is but a dream to us who were born here! Huge injustice that is!

Remember how the NDP fought against these " Mega projects . Every time WAC Bennett want to build a highway or dam the NDP screamed bloody murder about Maga projects . Rodgers pass , eliminating the big bend , the Peace dams , the Columbia dams .Every thing was a mega project and was to be stopped .
