      As a left hand amputee the issue is not the ability of the hands. We've for a very long time had articulating hands that could do most of the movements that a human hand can do. Its the interface which is severely lacking. Myo has serious limits in how many inputs it can take and how many inputs the arm can provide.

    I wonder how well a winter soldier metal arm type of design would work, it would have a lot of mobility but it’s very compact too. The scale like structure would just allow for the most movement possible. Depending on how good the technology gets for these prosthetics we could definitely see something like Bucky’s metal arm.

    • @turkeykent3719
      @turkeykent3719 Před 8 měsíci +11

  • @DavidStruveDesigns
    @DavidStruveDesigns Před 8 měsíci +6

    The pressure feedback system is a real game-changer. Able-bodied people with all their limbs don't tend to realise how amazing it is that we can use our hands whilst hardly ever looking at them, and yet get the perfect level of grip on an object pretty much _every_ time. When you're suddenly made aware of it, like watching a video such as this one, it makes you realise just how complex and amazing the human body is - and how much of our bodily actions/functions are almost completely automated, without need for concious processing, focus or thought.
    Also makes you wonder, just how much of me is actually _me_ in control, and how much is my body just a pre-programmed robot that I'm merely occupying and taking a ride in.

    I have to be honest I was aware of this company because I have always been into robotics, and always wondered how a cyborg would look like in real life ( not just in movies). Its very cool that you are doing this, and raise awareness of this. I am originally from Iraq, back home there is A LOT of people with missing limbs. So a very cool colaboration.
    But guys talking about that gift you were given. This hand/arm is begging to be a winter soldier. The colour is perfect because it matches his wakanda arm (or you can paint it). Ideally you find a person who is missing an arm or part of it and integrate the bionic with a full arm sleeve that looks like metal or is also made put or carbon fibre. The carbon fibre won't be expensive as a material if you did it yourself, but its a pin to deal with and mold to someones arm. Essentially you are just doing an extension of the sleeve, no mechanical additions are needed because they made all of them. The hand is quite small in size judging by the footage so don't find massive guy with no left arm, find an average sized man 5.8-5.10 with a slightly muscular body... Basically Bogdan.
    Come to think about it just chop Bogdans left arm from the elbow down and they you got the perfect video,
    LMAO 😂am joking, please don't ban me.

While this has insanely cool implications for so many people, watching Nerdforge design, iterate and fit her own personal prosthetic using a 3D printer and some creativity is just as cool. This is incredible. 3D printing would be good for _relatively_ quick prototyping, but given the nature of filament and how it also degrades over time, I can see how durability would a major issue. But now that this kind of tech exists, with even touch-feedback, it's another revolutionary game changer that wasn't possible with any other type of prosthetic before this. I'm excited to see where this goes, maybe even customization, like colored silicone sleeves to mimic skin tones, or collabs with IP holders to license and bring exterior designs from pop culture with characters who are also using prosthetics (i.e. Fullmetal Alchemist) with the same inner core technology.

    • @theHacksmith

    Very inspiring stuff. Thanks for making the film. One thing that wasn't mentioned was whether the software will be open sourced at some point. It would be tragic to have to rely on this technology but then back-end support goes away if the company changes direction, obsoletes certain models or even goes out of business. Reparability and spare parts availability are also an issue especially if supplying to less-developed countries. I really hope this company is successful.

      That's a decent leep since this still uses part of your arm as a baseline to receive signals from. I think something like that would require a neural implant to read commands, which would be incredibly alien and take a long time to adapt to. I'm not saying it's impossible, or even that I doubt it will happen in our lifetimes, just that it will be another big leap forward. Or maybe we'll find a way to receive the commands from somewhere else, and it will be easier.
