      First step is living on top of a mountain.
      Second step is not having anything anybody really needs which they do not have already.
      Switzerland existed through the 20th century because of location and that they weren't worth the effort to be bothered with at the time conflicts were going elsewhere. Being well armed for the population present in in phenomenally defensible terrain helped! Have no doubt that they would have had different success with their neutrality if either world war had gone differently.

      Actully, we shot them because it was an "aggressive neutrality", meaning that we would defend if attacked (also some plames wich appened to fly over the territory have been shot down to avoid bombing on swiss cities, wich had already happened before that)

    I think another reason why switzerland manages to be so neutral and rarely to never gets attacked is the amount of Troops it can still march up. Every Swiss man has to go to the military (unless excused for reason of health or believe) and after passing military, they take their gun and a pack of ammunition home. In case of war most Swiss men would be ready to fight on command and again, the alps are a huge tactical advantage, I’ve even heard that there are plans to blow up bridges, streets and so on in case of an attack

  • @baradinvaros7159
    @baradinvaros7159 Před 5 lety +1

    Fun fact, the Alps are full of bunkers to fall back to in case of invasion and the bridges between mountains must be high enough as to allow fighter planes to fly underneath.

      An interesting thing is that invading a nation can sometimes be more easy for weaker nations than for Strong ones.
      For example France invaded italy 9 times and lost everytime, meanwhile Spain Litteraly asked to the Archduke of Tuscany to give up his throne and he just let them in his country without opposition and they didn’t even send an army .... And the year before the Austrians tried to conquer Tuscany and the Archduke defeated them . It’s incredible thinking how much relations between nations can affect wars.
