KJV Bible
[1] Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
[2] By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
[3] For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

Please explain the finding in the this study that, after covariate analysis, the people with the diet with the lowest carbs had the highest mortality. See figure 3 in the study

Wavering fan here. Who's quitting keto? I see zero evidence of any sort of movement, and you certainly didn't provide any. If anything the WOW seems more popular than ever. Especially if you include the growing carnivore movement. What I do see though is a series of increasingly (Desperate?) Click bait video titles. Your videos are perfectly watchable and far reaching without the nonsense.
I think people don't stick with it because they think eating anything that is labeled KETO is somehow good for them. And although those products are technically KETO, they also have a ton of other crappy ingredients you can't pronounce that are probably as bad as sugar for you. While I personally don't 100% adhere to KETO, it did help me reduce my carbs dramatically and stick to a more "natural" selection of foods. I still drink grape juice and apple juice which have carbs, but they are 100% natural juice with no weird added ingredients. Once in awhile I'll also eat 90% dark chocolate. It doesn't have a ton of carbs, but if I eat more than one bar a week it would knock me out of KETO. But again, I'm not 100% KETO. I just use it as a guide to reduce carbs that I know cause me digestive distress.
The point is, you can't do dirty KETO long term, and people can't completely give up their sugary chocolates and other dirty KETO foods.
Constant carb consumption made me feel gross my entire life and I just wrote it off until I got a fatty liver. Keto fixed my fatty liver and I love this diet for many reasons. Not planning on turning back.

You missed a possible reason: Processed foods jumped into the game to cash in and offered lots of expensive, fake “keto” products that don’t yield results like eating real food would.
Exactly, the products in the shops have preservatives, colorants and all sorts of chemicals. Just stick to the basic fresh veggies for your carbs and cook your own fresh meat with their fats. Save on your grocery bill by not buying all the condiments, paying for packaging and advertising costs incorporated in these products. My grocery bill has reduced tremendously.
Hi
Processed is always worse
Exactly! Keto isn't about consuming few enough carbs, it's about letting your body get to it's natural metabolic state which includes cutting out carbs, but that's not the only thing that matters
@bounceday my thoughts exactly, I'm sure Dr Sten Ekberg advised against pre packaged keto foods for obvious reasons
I’m 51 yrs old, overweight, diabetic and Dx with MS in 2017. I decided to start experimenting with Keto and IF and it was the best decision of my life. My life has changed so much after quitting carbs and sugar and going Keto. I’ve lost 54 lbs. My skin all over my body has gotten so much better, people say I look younger (win-win), I have a natural glow I never had before. I’m off the diabetic medication, I feel so good after eating, I’m never bloated anymore. I have MS and it has helped with the inflammation, my legs don’t hurt in the mornings, the benefits I’ve received after going Keto are endless. I’m focused, I sleep better, I could go on and on…I’m never quitting it!
I thougt the same, 15 years ago. Keto is clearly a step up, fron the S.A.D. eating.
Ironically, I got a shitload of new problems, and they stayed until I switched to mostly raw food (then, they went away in WEEKS).
A LOT of fruits(!), vegetables, nuts and seeds.
I‘m never quitting it. ;)

Fasting.
Fasting.

wow, eat less and lose weight. Amazing.
@@mmayes9466 Sarcasm won’t take you far. But just to humor you, I’ll reply to your comment. You can eat less while still eating crap and you may lose some weight, but you will not improve your overall health, such as reverse Type 2 diabetes, manage inflammation, get rid of debilitating migraines, I can mention a few more, but you get the point, or I think you do. I did it for years and it didn’t work. Eating less doesn’t mean you’re eating healthy. So, yeah…it’s not that simple. So you can take your sarcasm and…well…have a good life 😄
I started Keto with my son who suffers from epilepsy. Its worked wonders for his epilepsy and I feel much better when I dont consume carbs. The science for the keto effect on epilepsy is pretty well established. Low carb diets help everyone. Anecdotally cultures that are low carb choice suffer from less metabolic diseases. My strategy is to NOT listen so much to the Anti/Pro groups but to listen to my own body.
Molly, thank you. I started Keto for epilepsy as an adult when my doc said not to. I am almost off all of my meds and seizures calming down like never before. There needs to be a difference for Therapeutic Keto. I am at a healthy weight and strength but this is about my brain. Thank you!
Well said. I used to be prediabetic, only in my late 20s. Did keto for a few months and my blood sugars are totally in normal range now. I also lost 28lbs in 2 months of doing it. From 183lbs. Now at least my bmi is correct. Doing keto just helped me constantly eat healthier which I haven't been able to do before and now I'm totally accustomed.

On this past Christmas MY present to me was keto. I had been hospitalized a few weeks before. After just a month on keto I had a Doctor's appointment. I felt so good. Swelling...gone. Blood pressure down, skin cleared. Cholesterol down. Weight down 30lbs. My doctor was amazed. Added supplements. 4 months in. Blood pressure 90/60 my old average. A great new way of life. Not a diet. ❤️
It definitely is a way of life ❤
At 67, I went on Keto purely to lose weight and look good. It was always going to be a short term solution. Always been fit, but I've been piling on the pounds over the last 10 years. Yes, the weight fell off me quickly, but what I didn't expect was the clarity of thought, calmer temperment, aches and pains (which I put down to age) vanishing and the huge increase in stamina after the first few weeks of adjusting to Keto. I now go running for enjoyment, whereas in the past it was just a necessary exercise to keep fit. I will never quit Keto.
It sounds like you’ve been YO YO dieting for years !

As someone over age 70 and formerly pre-diabetic, I will stick with keto for the rest of my life because it is right for me.
Over 60 here. Was diagnosed type II diabetic 3 years ago. I couldn’t tolerate Metformin. The ketogenic diet was a lifesaver. My A1C is 5.2 now. For anyone who’s pre-diabetic, type II or insulin resistant, I can’t imagine encouraging them into anything other than a low carbohydrate diet.
@@pumacheyenne6823Its the weight loss that helped you. You could have done it with any diet. Plenty of type 2 diabetics on vegan diets lose weight and put their diabetes into remission.
@@tom4705 😂
I only lost 10 pounds. I have hypothyroidism and am allergic to synthroid medications. The desiccated animal thyroid keeps my symptoms from getting awful but keep me from losing weight.
Look at pictures/documentary footage from 60 years ago or so. Before the “food pyramid” (which was lobbied by grain producers) you’ll see that overweight was not the norm and obesity was occurring even less frequently.
My mother-in-law got diabetes years ago. She went on a calorie restriction diet, lost weight and her diabetes got better but never went into remission.
After a while all the weight went back on… she never binged, her metabolism slowed down.
Her diabetes got worse and now she’s dead. She was nearly blind by that time.
Oh, and she was on a “healthy” low fat diet.
@@tom4705it depends on the person’s degree of insulin resistance. The problem with a vegan diet is a lot of the recipes are filled with sugars and starches which a T2D doesn’t need or want. @@tom4705 a) that's not true. Controlling insulin and blood sugar levels controls diabetes, not weight loss per se, that's just a consequence plant based diet don't reverse dis tes. b) the point is that a higher protein higher fat diet is easier to adhere to.
I thrived on a keto diet for 7 years…autoimmune went into remission, mental focus improved greatly, no more hip pain, got very lean and full of energy…switched to healthy whole food diet for one year as an experiment and lost all the gains! Decided to go Carnivore (thinking I could get back on track faster) but just can’t eat that much meat! And did not get same benefits as whole food Keto! I’m back to Keto for the rest of my life. I have all the evidence I need that it’s the best diet for me. My friends and family no longer give me a hard time for “eating all that fat.” Some of them are joining me and seeing success. ❤️
I fell off keto, last year during the Holidays, all the food and pastries when visiting over family. I couldn't resist. The bad part was that after the holidays were over I did not got back to the keto life style and over the past year I gained 30 pounds!
I'm coming back to Keto because my body can't handle carbs. It's been 2 weeks since I'm back and I'm 10 pounds lighter. This serves me as a reason or proof that keto works for me.
What do you mean your body can't handle the carbs? If you are gaining weight from eating them, seems the body is handling them fine but you are just deciding to eat too much of them. What carbs exactly are causing you to gaing weight, healthy carbs or some junk food and sodas etc?
I went on keto for 4 months from jan to april. Lost 50 pounds. Starting eating everything for the summer and gained 35 back. January is coming again so ill be back on keto and Gym. Lmao😂

I got lazy and then I got pressured back in the carbs during the holidays this year. I started to remember within a month or so why I cut all that stuff out to begin with so I’m back on keto. Just getting over the last little bit of Keto flu. I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who got pressured back into carbs during the holidays but I am happy you’re back on keto
@@HellonWheels777 You are definitely not the only one! I was keto/vore (mostly carnivore) for 7 months (for health reasons) and felt great. Blood work hugely improved, TG's down by half, HDL up 15 points.. fasting glucose way down and doc said I was NO longer pre-diabetic and I had the liver & kidneys of a 30-year old just 4-5 months after I changed my lifestyle, and that was just some walking like 1.5 miles 3/wk, or minimal exercise. I felt 20 years younger with no back pain or joint pain, headaches were gone, no bloating, or GI issues, and had lots of energy. I fell off the wagon after Thanksgiving and through Christmas and New Year's. I only gained 5-6 pounds but I was feeling like crap eating cake, potatoes, pie, bread, etc. at relatives' and home because I started craving carbs again after staying at my sister's for 4 days during Christmas where she had 20 different kinds of sweets and pastries and fresh bakery bread :( Back pain and knee pain came back after Christmas, and I started feeling tired and lethargic again, craving carbs, started getting a runny nose like when I used to eat carbs, some bloating returned, was sore getting out of bed, or getting up from the chair or out of the car, and I could just feel my immune system and body going downhill fast. Back on track with keto/vore (only about 20g of carbs mostly from full-fat Greek yogurt w/raw honey or few berries) now for 1 week and back to 2 high fat/protein meals per day. All aches and pains and other symptoms are gone again, thank god. I am never going back to eating carbs/sugar or even greens. I don't do well with fruit and veggies either. I feel best with meat, fish & eggs, ie: protein & fat.
Been on Keto since 2018. My diabetes was out of control. Was at a 12.1 A1C and now 5.6. Never giving up on keto.
You don’t have to be kept to achieve that, just eat better. Keto is just simple to follow because of it’s hard restrictions
I absolutely believe that if you're diabetic, then getting rid of as much carbs as you can is the most rational thing to do. Just don't eat what harms you. It's common sense. The question is whether keto is optimal for everyone and I have my doubts. For example, people tend to lose weight on keto and since most have some weight to lose, it's a good thing for them. But as for me, I'm already lean and the best thing I can probably do for my blood sugar control is not to lose weight but to GAIN IT by building muscle. This I find difficult without carbs, especially given my physically demanding job. I think carbs are fine in the right context, which is physical activity.
Keto tastes like crap.
@@Jahn_Pah_Jonz Carbo makes many feel like crap, and puts lots of people into the grave after lots of disease.
The Zone Diet is a great balance. Morley Robbins will prevent mineral depletion baked into the SAD.
I cycle between keto, intermittent fasting, sardine fasting, and the Zone Diet, and always try to restore my magnesium, retinol, and bio-copper status.
I'm not quitting. I'm starting again because nothing else works for me. Every time I lost weight, improved my fitness and had successes in life and better mental health was while being on keto. Sticking to "normal" diet leads to maintenance on deficit and unbearable cravings. I really don't work with carbs so well and tolerate less and less things with age.
Spot on and perhaps some humans are more disposed to carb addition than others, we all know the people who eat pizza and ice cream and stay thin and never develop metabolic disease and others who crave and consistently over eat carbs. Its not will power its addiction and the dopamine hit. To those who can carb load all the time and are fine more power to you, I am not so lucky so keto is the way.
I’m 56 years old and this time last year I was 7 lbs shy of 300 lbs. Thanks to the Keto diet, I’m now 100lbs lighter. I have so much energy, I no longer have the need for coffee or diet cokes. I do drink one cup of green tea in the morning but it’s more for its health benefits. I feel like a whole new woman! I’m not giving up keto anytime soon.

Im 26 and 1 week into keto and I feel absolutely amazing. I sleep better, my moods are better, my allergies are slowly fading and i feel less tired. Sugar and carbs is the reason why the medical industry is so rich and half the American population is obese.
Is it also the reason the population that has most people living over 100 traditionally got like 80% calories from carbs? If all carbs were the cause of obesity, I don't think vegans would be the people with the lowest average BMI.
@@cyberfunk3793It’s sugar and wheat that’s fattening! Vegans are more food aware than ordinary people. But I think keto is the way.
@@SwedenNeedsHelp It's calories that make people fat, not some specific item. But sure it's easier to eat less calories by avoiding obvious rich calorie sources like sugars and fats. I don't see good reasons for keto, unless one has some specific reasons like otherwise untreatable epilepsy or they simply can't loose weight otherwise and keto is making it easier for them. Even in that case, I wouldn't stay on keto after my weight was normal.
@@cyberfunk3793 I agree - I think a moderate carb diet it’s sufficient for most people. However, there is no doubt that sugar is inflammatory, and fast carbohydrates is something the human body does not need at least in larger amounts. The standard American diet is full of sugar and fast carbohydrates. And processed garbage foods.
@@SwedenNeedsHelp Sure, the American food isn't health food on average but it's not the type of food that lead to the obesity but the total calories that has gone up from something like 1970. Supersize sodas etc. easily pack a lot of calories people don't even notice they are consuming. When I was on a diet few years ago, the first thing I quit was all juices (didn't even drink sodas before that either) and even that made it considerably easier to stay below my 1700 calorie daily budget which I kept a few months and lost about 10kg.
Everyone is NOT quitting keto. Probably just people who move to the next touted fad or hot thing. Keto and low carb truly help so many people!!!
Yes one of the hardest thing for me was overcoming 40+ years of low fat propaganda perpetuated by the standard American Diet. After 2 and a half years I think I am finally overcoming my insulin resistance so I cannot imagine going back to consuming carbs that are not necessary for optimum nutrition and are likely the cause of a lifetime of dental issues.

The bread is always the nemesis !
It really should not be complicated. I just stick to the basic keto principles. Keeping carbs to 5 - 10% of total calories, Protein to 20 -30% and fat at 60 - 75% of daily calories. Getting my electrolytes in and that is it. I have some fun with keto desserts and enjoy life.

My question with keto is how about the gut microbiome? Don’t they feed on fiber? I do IF and fast 2 days a week but eat what I want.
I've been on keto & IF for more than FOUR years now! My family's in a cash-strapped era right now, so staying on both is a solution to extend the money.
I think the trend toward just doing keto without sharing it with the rest of the world is part of a larger trend of people not sharing as much online on general. And I think that's a great thing! Neither the internet echo chamber nor the bullying does anyone any good.
Personally, I share 10% of what I used to online and I know I'm not the only one. Maybe people aren't moving away from keto, they're just not talking about it for all the reasons you mentioned.

Keto style eating is fantastic for people that are not great chefs.
I’ve been off keto for about 2 years after 5 years on it…I’m back on keto again as I was sick and tired of feeling sick & tired. I felt so much better eating a keto/ carnivore way of life. It is tough right now with the cost of good meat… but my health is worth it.
Yes it is good to hear and remember what ket9 did for us - I’m going back too.
Costs alot less then health insurance and pills
Wife and I have been on it since June of last year. I went from 550 to 480 wife went from 405 to 325
That's like a whole total extra person
That's awesome keep up the good work.
Yep. All the OG Keto channels/influencers etc are all no longer Keto. As a diet trend as well it's completely crashed as the next fad diet has taken over. There are tons of Keto products available today so people can easily access and try the diet. But like you said, most people saw it as a quick weight loss trick and went for it. 90% of the people who used to follow my channel for Keto recipes eventually stopped watching because they stopped doing Keto themselves or they no longer needed recipes as they got all their Keto foods easily from a store. The Keto police as well were freaking CRAZY!
What's the current big thing?

The best thing keto did for me was made me unafraid of eating fat. I was totally brainwashed by the 90s as a kid and teen. I technically toggle between low carb and keto, but both versions have worked well for me. I feel in order to stick with a healthy diet long term and not gain weight back, low carb is the best for me. Sometimes keto will create an "all or nothing" in my mind which can lead to binge eating, but when I'm eating low carb, it's not the end of the world if I eat a handful of hot cheetos because I'm not chasing ketosis with every single gram of carb.
Yes. This has been my experience since I started keto back in 2018. It did create an 'all or nothing' mindset and that is one of the many drawbacks of any diet that requires drastic changes. When I'm doing keto, I'm hardcore. When I'm not doing keto and fall off the wagon, I REALLY fall off. I let the wagon roll over me, then I get up and run to the front and lie down so the wagon can roll over me again. Ha ha. This time around, I'm hovering more towards low carb than strict keto but I'm also avoiding all sugars. Once a week I might eat a few forbidden carbs but otherwise, I'm usually OMAD keto for the week.
so you label cheetos as a carb? It's >40% fat. Seems like that would be ideal for Keto.
A cheat meal once a week is ok! The reward for eating healthy the other 6 days a week
I quit because I realized that the problem with my initial diet wasn't carbs, but rather processed food. I went back to eating a standard, high-protein diet, but now I make sure to eat more whole foods.
Bingo ..processed food are the worst thing..
Exactly
Yes🎉
You hit the nail on the head. I think keto retrains you to interpret hunger and then adding back fruit will sustain you but processed food will always get you out of the groove

I'm a 61 yr old female. I was obese and pre-diabetic. My patients who were long-haulers were also obese and pre-diabetic. I am now almost at my goal weight, pre-diabetes gone. When I told my sister, a registered dietitian, that I was on a keto way of eating, she warned me how dangerous it was. She is still 200+ lbs overweight. She has been so indoctrinated in the SAD, she will not even entertain anything else. Heartbreaking.
That's insane! Good on you for sticking to your principles. And how does a dietician who's 200 lbs overweight have ANY credibility at all?! Who on earth would take any dietary advice from her?
Good for you and hopefully your patients are inspired by your success.
I would never trust a fat dietician
Good for you! 💪🙌
Keep up the good work!
I was keto for 5 years, clean foods only. I gained weight on it because I previously had been extremely calorie restricted. But I reversed my type 2 diabetes, and now eat a normal clean nutrition plan with healthy carbs and no longer have any blood glucose or insulin issues. Keto fixed that for me. So glad to be on the other side of diabetes and the other side of keto.
The list of benefits the keto lifestyle has given me is way too long to ever give it up. Everything is better-- my mental health, no more joint pain, no hip pain, no more gerd, no high blood pressure, great dental health, no diagnosis, no more meds. No way could I go back. I enjoy a non keto meal/day here and there without any guilt and that is enough for me. I've never been healthier!
Keto eventually ruined my sleep quality, tanked my testosterone, and limited my athletic performance.
All improved very rapidly when I added enough carbohydrates to avoid ketosis. My fasted blood sugar is lower now with carbs than on ketosis as well.
If it works for you, then great, but my “n=1” came to different results.
@@brawndothethirstmutilator9848woah you lowered blood sugar going back? How many carbs are you eating a day now if you mind me asking?
@Cardio305, Sure. It depends on my activity level, but usually around 120-180 grams of carbohydrates per day (I’m a 205 pound male for reference). Mostly fruit and raw dairy (with the occasional sweet potato). My morning glucose as measured by a CGM was consistently lower after about a week of reintroducing carbs. My fasted glucose by blood draw was lower than my previous keto dieting reference points as well. I don’t remember the exact numbers as my last use of a CGM or lab work was over a year ago.
@@brawndothethirstmutilator9848 Nice that’s awesome and that’s a solid amount of carbs seems balanced. I’m experimenting with 100g right now but I’m 175lbs. My only fear with the carbs is that it would raise my A1C but I’m hoping for a similar result.

Keto has put my fibromyalgia in remission. It has also ended my gassy, bloated bowels. Idc what everyone else does, I'm keto for life. I haven't felt this good in 20+ years!
Same, same, same. Keto for life! It's the best for my body!

I have fibromyalgia. What did you eat??
@@Chrisia-Queens meat, eggs, bacon, butter.
@Chrisia-ik5hh
Fatty meat, eggs, bacon, sausage, butter, lots of whipped cream in my coffee, mayonnaise and other fatty dressings, hard cheeses. I use no sugar alternatives except Lankato Monk Fruit Extract. I follow Dr. Annette Bosworth's advice (search "Dr. Boz" here on CZcams). 70-80% fat daily, 20 grams or less of carbs per day, and I shoot for 2:1 ratio fat to protein. I have chopped pecans with diced cream cheese and sometimes 15 - 30g of blueberries or blackberries for dessert, or those same berries with whipped cream sweetened with monk fruit extract.
I use a dietary scale and a nutrition tracker. I use Nutritionix, but my son likes MyFitnessPal's tracker. I use the tracker and scale less now because I know what serving sizes are and I can keep myself in ketosis.
I've lost 25 pounds without trying since April, and my pain is gone. I got married in September and took ten days off my diet. Gas, bloating and widespread pain began again, AND I broke out in a rash! One week after I got back into ketosis, everything was back to normal and I was pain-free again!
I wish I had known about this when I was in the Navy. Maybe it could have kept me from being medically retired because of my fibromyalgia.
I’ve cycled on and off keto for the past 6 years.
I gain weight when I cycle off, and lose weight when I’m on it.
It’s clear to me that I need to stay on it. Discipline is where I’m lacking.
I’m trying carnivore right now. I was starting to get tired of all the vegetable chopping and making two things for dinner instead of just one.
I’ve found that only having to prepare a meat is liberating.
I used to make a dozen ingredient salad. 20+ minutes of just chopping to make that. No longer.
Note it’s just season the meat, and cook it 😁
So how are you getting your nutrients??

Animal meat eggs maybe some dairy and fish. That's more than enough.

I was on Keto for 4 years and I made my eating disorder worse, I’d binge then run back to Keto because I’d feel like this is my “chance” to eat all the carbs I’d miss. I prefer moderate/low carb but not restricting any food groups except refined sugars :)
Same here and I am still maintaining my weight after eating a more balanced diet but I keep processed foods and grains at bay. I occasionally have watermelons. But mostly Meats, fish, eggs, salads, avocados, yogert, vegetables, lactose free milk because I am lactose intolerant and occasionally sweet potato with butter only. I got anxiety trying to keep up with the carbs and then if I accidentally went over, I got more mad with myself. I had to worry about constantly going back on ketosis because I wanted to have a cheat meal. It worked until it didn't but I'll still use it from time to time if I need to restart my body again. For some people it is long-term but for someone like me with a eating disorder it is probably not good. The best thing for me is a low-carb diet. I also stay away from sugary stuff and I don't even eat cereal anymore because they are really high in carbs and loaded with bad ingredients! I also don't eat TV dinners and I cook my meals!
Eating disorders always make the whole subject of diet and nutrition harder! I have to say that I struggled a lot when I was younger, mostly with bulimia.. loved food too much to not eat.
But over the last ten years or so, it’s really not an issue anymore. I don’t know exactly what happened, but im grateful that it’s not ruling my life anymore. If I stay on a super low carb diet and make sure that I still have sweets (I make keto chocolate mousse a lot) I do just fine now and I feel great.
I have to keep all the sugary crap out of the house though, because it it’s there it will talk to me in the middle of the night!
Been keto/carnival omad for 3yrs. Literally saved my life! Not changing anything thank you very much!
As someone who has a very bad relationship with food, Keto was a game changer in terms of defeating my cravings, and curbing my hunger. However, I had to realise that Keto did not fix my perverted Relationship with food and carbs in particular. It just worked as long as I did it, and afterwards I fell back into the same patterns. So what I really needed to do was fixing my relationship to eating. Nowadays I am not afraid of carbs anymore, neither I am afraid of higher fat foods.

I didn't do keto for weight loss, I did it to feel better and fix gut dysbiosis. After 10 months I did feel better. I even considered going back to school and began a biochemistry course. Then I stopped keto. I started reintroducing carbs 2 or 3 months ago, worried about the long term effect of all that saturated fat. Now I'm doing low fodmap with the guidance of a nutritionist. I feel awful. I stopped doing the biochemistry course, I'm tired most of the time, my muscles and joints hurt, brain fog is back. I might even feel worse than I did before keto. What a mess.
Well jump back in & share your reversal testimony! Waiting… :)
I did strict Keto for 3 years. Now I cycle off and on while maintaining some keto principles such as limiting hard carbs and sugar (potatoes and doughnuts). In addition to the health gains I noticed I no longer have hunger pains. When I'm off keto and I miss a meal, I'm still not hungry. My body can switch back into keto all or part so easily, there is no break in the switch over. I had dinner a few hours ago and before that was dinner the night before. Even though it was 24 hours, I could have easily skipped dinner tonight. To me that is a big plus with keto.
Being a slave to your stomach really does suck. That is something I bet most everybody would agree with.
The only people who have ever criticized my keto diet were vegans. You want to talk about a dogmatic group...
Very similar story for me, and now I can do the active things because my weight is down and my muscle up. I eat more veg now than when I wasn't keto. Depends on how you do keto as to if it is good for you. Vegans are nuts about enforcing their diet.
But it doesn't work like that for everyone. I did strict, clean carnivore for a while and then transitioned to keto. I cannot fast. I have to eat my 3 meals a day or I fall apart, even with all the time on zero carbs or sugar. And eating that way 3 meals a day is boring as hell LOL.
@@Swearengen1980 How long were you on Keto? It takes 3-4 months of strict keto for your body to fully adapt.

It's the triglycerides and HDL that are markers for concern. Also A1c and blood pressure.. if they are normal, nothing to worry about. Your brain needs cholesterol and your hormones. Up the red meat and fat for your health. Longest living people have high LDL. Watch David Diamond videos..
@pumacheyenne6823, @Debbie-jz6ef - It's good to read your comments; I've been keto since 2016, but as I have hereditary hypercholesteremia, my HDLs and LDLs are quite high. This panics my doctor, even though my triglycerides, and remnant cholesterol, are very low. Some years ago, I'd been treated for, and recovered from, low thyroid issues. I've just learned that sub-clinical low thyroid can cause high LDL levels; so I'm supplementing with iodine/phosphorus tablets until my next blood test, in three months' time. Fingers crossed!

How many carbs you take a day and are you staying in Ketosis? Is it possible for you to gain muscles?
The thing that went wrong for me was that the keto diet ceased to work. I lost 25 pounds with it (I was about 85 pounds overweight to begin with) and then suddenly a plateau that lasted maybe 7 weeks (along with fasting 18/6 to 21/3 hrs) and that's when I stopped counting macros and started counting calories I was stuck at 180 lbs. This worked till I got to 167 lbs. Then another plateau. I decided to begin reintroducing some foods I missed and cut out keto sweets and treats, most particularly keto ice cream, which I miss in this hot summer. I added 2 slices of Dave's Killer 21 whole grain bread (5 grams fiber per slice! ) which I froze then toasted so it has resistant starch. Lotsa butter on those puppies. Butter will slow or even stop the glucose/insulin spike! I also added walking/rucking to my daily routine. I'm up to 3 miles walking for the first time in decades! And finally the scale budged to 165, where I'm at now. I'm a 57 yo post menopausal diabetic-almost-in-remission (which I achieved through adhering to Keto for 4 months and low carb the rest of the year.) I highly recommend Keto for type 2 diabetics to REVERSE this HORRENDOUS condition! When I began this journey just under 1 yr ago, I was diagnosed diabetic with 279 fasting glucose and 9.9 A1C! In 9 months it was down to 100 fbc and 5.6 A1C and I was taken off Metformin. My 1 yr checkup is around the corner so we'll see if these dietary changes effected it, for better or worse. Fingers crossed. Keto is definitely an effective weapon in the war on diabetes! You must lose weight to conquer diabetes! However you get there, get there!
Please write about your checkup. Were changes good or not?
I now tell people that I have to be on a restricted diet. My doctor has genuinely told me to keep doing what I am doing that helped me lose weight. Eating unhealthy processed and fast foods was giving me acid reflux, sleep apnea, chest pains and joint issues. The obesity also made me feel terrible about myself. I try to eat healthy lower carb meals most of the time and that has eliminated most of my health issues and I lost 64 lbs. Once in a while have a cheat day and eat cake or a little more starchy foods, but I limit how often I do that. If it's not a permanent lifestyle change, it doesn't fix the health issues permanently. I have found good alternatives for the things I crave so I don't feel deprived. I focus on making the foods that are allowed in a low carb lifestyle taste as good as they can, which is another way to not feel deprived.
My dr recommended a nutritionist, she convinced me to start on a total plant based diet, eating potatoes, sweet potatoes, brown rice, quinoa and more fruits, and my blood sugar went back up , so I’m back to avoiding most higher carbs. But Im eating less cheese ( which I was over doing ). and less red meats and more green leafy vegetables and more seeds like chia, and flaxseed .
I've been doing keto for just over a year. My main reasons were to kick my insane sugar habit as well as lose a little weight and fix my chronic bloating issue. Keto has worked out incredibly well for me. Not only did I finally get over my sugar addiction, but having suffered from IBS since I was 18 (45 yrs old now), my tummy is completely flat and no longer in pain. Plus another massive benefit is that it is hugely beneficial for my legs in that I'm carrying less water weight in my lymph vessels (I have congenital primary lymphoedema of the lower legs), which results in less swelling and discomfort. My lymphoedema therapist has actually said at my last appointment that I am improving the condition and was really interested to hear how I did it.
Since starting keto, once I became fat adapted, I have cycled on and off on a few occasions, maybe like a week's break or so, to keep myself metabolically flexible. But I've always returned to keto. To me this is the most balanced way and I honestly don't see myself ever changing from this lifestyle due to the insane benefits im seeing and experiencing. I mix in quite a bit of fasting too and having graduated to 36hr fasts once a week or so, I feel like I've really dialled in my health to a point that I always feel great.

Hey.
Since english isn't my first language, i just want to make sure i understood you correctly.
As far as i understood, you said that by not following a strict keto diet the body is a certain grey area which neither allows you to fully utilize ketones nor have enough carbs as fuel.
But then a bit later you said that it's fine to load up on carbs (even up to 75g) to have a great workout and then to return to eating keto.
Something that's a bit unclear to me is how the body is able to switch from carbs to ketones so fast. Can the body simply use carbs for the workout and then pretty much instantly produce ketones when it doesn't get any more carbs? Is a few hours enough for that? And what happens when i do that over a longer period of time?
I just started again and going strong . No craving for chips , sweets , night snacking etc … what’s not to like . Also not properly hungry anymore . It is a win win for me .
I went on Keto to reset my unhealthy body. Multiple doctors were prescribing tons of medications that did not work at all. Then they wanted to perform surgeries removing organs. I told the doctors that I am going to try the Keto diet to see if I can fix my health issues first if it did then GREAT, if it didn't, then at least I am going into surgery with a healthy body that will heal fast verses a pre-diabetic body I use to have and heal slowly. It was a win-win situation for me to go on Keto. I'm 8 months into it now and still going strong. It's a lifestyle now because I got used to it and I enjoy it. The current result, I am off of my medications, and the surgeries are no longer needed. 😊
I was VERY keto for a while, and then Covid happened. Now, I’m going Paleo to lose my Covid weight, but Paleo is sort of like keto with fruit. I loved keto, but the dealbreaker for me was constipation. I’ve since learned that I need to supplement with magnesium and potassium, and I’ll apply that to Paleo. So I’m keto-adjacent, I guess. And Thomas, I learn so much from your videos. You’re my keto hero!!!
I cycle off keto for 2 weeks during Christmas, for a week when I go on holiday, and relax the diet a few meals here and there when invited to family dinners where longstanding family recipes are served. The rest of the year, I am strict keto. At 57, I am the leanest, healthiest, most fit guy in my circle.
Alright, I believe each person is going to do what's best for them. Keto helped me with chronic asthma. So, something so traumatic like that leaves scars. And in return I am so grateful and blessed to have come across my miracle. Im not giving it up. And at the same time I know that I can eat cake at a birthday party without it being the end of the world.
Im not so disciplined that i completely went Keto. What I DID do was avoid as many processed foods as possible, and in doing so , I discovered thats whats been killing me. I no longer have body pains or a gut with love handles. 😊
Ultra processed foods and sugar is the killer, avoid.
This is exactly right. Keto is for many a way to stop getting killed by processed food, sugary drinks and snacks. Once they realise this and stop eating those things, they can eat most food (other than those things!) and still feel good.
I've just come back to keto, I did it in 2018 and felt incredible, but sadly the normal modern life stressors got in the way. We're back on it for this year and determined to stick to it - we have weight loss goals of course but I never forgot how GOOD it felt to be in ketosis and have all that inflammation go away, so for me it's mostly about feeling better and combating insulin resistance so I can feel healthier and more able to be active. We're 3 weeks in and still excited about all the near-daily changes. I've noticed the aches and pains that I've had for years are going away, my sleeping is better, I don't feel as flabby. I have a very high bodyfat percentage but without also carrying the water-weight I feel leaner already. I think its true people fall off for all sorts of reasons but I think for me, I'll be coming back to keto over and over again throughout my life because it really, truly is the only way of eating I've ever done that feels like I 'cracked the code' on my physiology, I feel so damn good on keto. Best of luck to everyone with their keto goals, whatever they may be, and especially to anyone who is doing it for the second, or third time, or more. It can be so hard to stick to it, but I wish you all luck :)
I just do low carb, I try my best to eat mostly salads and meats but I will eat rice every now and then.
I've dealt with various types of inflammation on a normal high carb diet throughout my entire life. When I found out and tried keto all of it was gone. So for me, that's why I stick to keto.
Also my testosterone level rose super high without trying supplements. I was just able to eat healthier. I found out that it's easier to eat healthy while on keto. My mind's always on healthy mode.
If you feel healthy then you're doing the right thing. Good luck on your journey 👍

@alicem6420 - I have a good friend who was recently diagnosed with colorectal cancer. How’s keto been working for you? Hope you’re well…
A group of us (family and friends) did keto. Some more strict high fat/less than 10g carbs, some more lazy keto, but we all ran into the same issue eventually. Gall stones. All of us were hit with gall stones. All within 6 to 36 month time frame. When I began looking it up it appears the unspoken problem with keto is gall issues (gall stones, gall bladder inflammation, etc).
That is not actually the problem. From a medical point of view, bile is mobilised from the gallbladder when you eat fats. The more you it the more “fluid” is the circulation of bile. So by moving the bile around it prevents making sludge and by consequence stones. However, if you had a “lazy” gallbladder from years of eating low fat or fat to many cards, sludge and stones were formed, but not symptomatic since not too much bile was secreted. When you went keto, the bile got turbo, so everything that was already in there was getting out, and if it couldn’t, you got typical cholecystitis symptoms as pain and vomiting. The conclusion is keto is great for preventing gallstones but if you already have it it will aggravate the problem and probably end in surgery.
Excellent analysis “
In my opinion and based on my experience, it’s great for fast weight loss. HOWEVER, one of the biggest issues for people is to stick with a lifestyle and enjoy it. Eliminating most carbs isn’t enjoyable for most people and it feels like constant, unnecessary discipline. For me, I’d rather go with something that I know works long term. I like eating wild rice, I like fruits, I like oatmeal and I enjoy the occasional pasta. It doesn’t make sense to me to always be in an unnecessary discipline state when I can still eat foods that are beneficial to my health. Sure, the weight loss process may slow down a little bit but we all owe to ourselves to find a happy yet healthy, balanced lives that we can realistically incorporate into our lives long term.
So I did Keto and lost 50lbs, now I don't do Keto, BUT I tend to stay more on the low carb side for food. I haven't gained any of that weight back thankfully.
The Family Guy Herbert whistle at 2:09 was so perfect, Chris Griffin sensed a disturbance in the force 😂
Keto made be diabetic. Before keto a full stomach rice meal caused blood sugar level in 120s after two hours. During Keto diet it was 110. But after quitting Keto same rice plate causes my blood sugar to be 140+ . Keto ruined me
Go fat-free for a couple of weeks
Hi from Thailand. I’m off Keto because I’m not into losing weight. I was Keto because I have Fibromyalgia but lose too much weight and my digestive cannot handle too much fats and too much vegetables triggered my IBS. My diet now is more high protein and fats and less carbs and sugar. Personally, this works for me.
Have you ever looked into the Wim Hof method? I would recommend that as well as extended fasting to help with your Fibromyalgia. There are a number of testimonials of people with that and other auto-immune conditions that were helped by cold exposure.
where to you get protein?
Each country has a food guide/food pyramid. That food guide is balanced diet. Pls look for your country's food guide.
As asians, our caloric needs and its measurements is smaller vs caucasian need.
USA has US FDA food guide.
As for my southeast asian country Philippines food pyramid,
For age 19 -29

Men: 2490
For food pyramid age 20 -39

I went off keto for almost a year and I gained weight so I went back on keto and feel so much better! Staying on it for a lifetime with an occasional day or two off
Every 2 or 3 weeks I like to have a good carb day where I eat salads and good healthy carbs for the weekend. After this I fast for 3 days and go back into my keto diet.
I lost 80 lbs on keto and my blood work looked amazing , only side effect was some face pimples ! Went off keto twice for few months and gained most of the weight back ! Each time I went back to keto I lost the weight easily! The third time , I am not losing weight or ( losing soooo slow) , i am on ketosis but not losing weight , even when I fast , my body decided to stop losing weight with keto this time (5 lbs in a month)
I quit cause I hated the food, I hated the liquid oil poops, I hated not having energy, I hated not being able to sleep… hope I don’t need more reasons. I’m glad it works for some people, it definitely didn’t work for me.
Lost 160 pounds on it (along with exercise and intermittent fasting). I am hoping that it is a lifetime diet for me. Just did my physical and all my numbers are great at 60 (not taking any pharmaceutical drugs).
I started Keto 5 years ago, clean keto, and it changed my life. Over the last year, I have cycled on and off keto and feel even better for it. I do Keto 60 days, then low carb for 30 days, and do no more than 130 grams of healthy carbs. Still no grain and sugar from only berries and some other organic fruits. I am also high protein, lower fat during that time. I love it, but honestly, Keto is home for me. Thanks, Thomas. I have followed you, and you helped me change my health for the better.
@MrReee-xq4yzthat's my problem too, unfortunately.
@MrReee-xq4yz I hear you. I have to make a deal with myself. If I want ice-cream or a cupcake, I can only have it if I work it all off (Exercise) Normally though I just end up making keto cupcakes. I know if I turn to sweets on carb months I fall off the deep end too.
One thing I barely ever seen mentioned at all in discussion on this subject is that most people need to heal and repair function of their liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and kidneys. Nearly everyone who isn't healthy has gallbladder issues, and if you don't heal and repair function of your gallbladder, there is a 100% chance of doing poorly on a high-fat diet of any kind. For some people it's going to be a problem right away, but for most people it's going to come on gradually as the gallbladder suddenly has a much higher workload than previously, but is slowly losing the battle of either bile production in the liver, thick bile in the gallbladder/stones/sludge that won't flow into the digestive tract properly, or both. Low stomach acid is also a huge factor in digestive health, and again, I barely ever see it mentioned in discussions about high fat diets of any kind. This is basic organ function, and it can't be ignored. Often times people who complain about diets that "aren't working," it's actually just that their organs are struggling and need support and healing.
Spot on!
Yes yes yes! My sister must have had a poorly working gallbladder as after trying keto for a very short time (and never in ketosis) she said that keto destroyed her gallbladder - and she had it removed! Almost every senior I know, and many young people in 40s too have GERD. Problem is Dr put them on damaging drugs., when what they need is the exact opposite. My sister and myself went from taking antacids etc to taking apple cider vinegar and were cured quickly! Thank you for bring these up!
Keto is great, I haven't done it in ages and started getting high blood pressure. Went back to a variation of KETO and my blood pressure was back to normal in less than 2 weeks. After decades of trying different foods, I can absolutely say that KETO is very healthy for you and it will get rid of most common diseases you see with weight, heart, liver, insulin. I eat a tonne of healthy fats (eggs, pork, butter, pure cream, meats etc) but I don't avoid carbs as hard as KETO says, I just eat healthy carbs like vegetables, some fruits, might have a slice of good quality bread here and there and a tea spoon of sugar in a coffee. I avoid as much processed foods as possible and my health is great.
Keto made my chronic insomnia and fibromyalgia significantly worse. Also severely affected my mental health negatively and my hormones .... it's not for everyone.
I’ve been on a health and fitness journey since 2019 (which is when this profile pic was taken). I’m 6’2” and weighed 239 with sky high blood pressure. I didn’t pay attention to what I ate and while I wasn’t sedentary, I wasn’t working out. Phase 1 was weight training and I lost 30 pounds. Phase 2 was quitting sugar in conjunction with heavy weight training and I lost another 10 pounds. I’d put on a significant amount of muscle but I still had stubborn fat around my chest. Phase 3 was getting my hormones tested, finding out I had very low T and going on TRT (LIFE CHANGING). Phase 4 was starting Keto, which has taken me to the point of weighing 191 with 13% bodyfat and having a 6 pack for the first time since I was 22 (I’m 44 now). I feel amazing and I look great, and I have no temptations whatsoever to change this way of life!
Have you looked into carnivore.. it's next level up. Lood at Dr Chaffee videos
I was keto for 3 years. The lack of fruit and vegetables caused major problems for me. I did a complete 180 and now doing a balanced diet with healthy carbs.
Way to go..
You did it wrong. You’re supposed to eat a lot of vegetables on healthy keto.
@@Wealth_Wisdom_Discernmentactually no. Veg has carbs and some have a lot of carbs especially if you eat a lot of them. It’s difficult to keep it under 50g especially when eating all that fat is so one note taste-wise on your palate. Honestly, all that fat makes me feel like a grease slick after a while. I think keto is good for ppl who are obese as a mechanism to jumpstart weight loss but I think once you get to your goal it’s good to cycle it. I think it’s mentally more healthier bc ppl start moving into eating disorder thinking which is just scary. Also, the science isn’t completely clear about the long term effects of keto which can’t be ignored.
@@seamslatasha3598 actually, you’re wrong. On healthy keto yourse supposed to eat a lot of salads and healthy vegetables and you don’t count those carbs. CZcams dr berg.
@@Wealth_Wisdom_Discernment yeah I think that’s maintenance keto but weight loss keto involves counting all carbs or at least that’s what most of the information touts. It’s about getting into ketosis so your body burns fat as energy which apparently is not possible when u go over a certain number of carbs. I feel like there needs to be a greater clarification on the different uses for these low carb diets. Def need more data
I did keto for 5 years. First couple years I was strict but then started going off keto during Holidays and randomly every few months. I learned a lot about the way certain foods make me feel. The negatives of keto were that it made my sugar addiction somewhat worse, I would binge so that I could finish whatever "bad" food so I could get back to keto. I had to work through the reasons why I ate the unhealthy foods... stress eating, snacking from boredom etc. Keto only allowed me to better feel the after effects. Eating a fruit is fine, eating a cookie is also fine. What's not ok is having full days, weeks where you aren't meeting your protein and nutritional needs because you are filling up on carbs.
Sensible and well thought out advise like this video is why I always come back to this channel unlike some "CZcams doctors" and "health advocate" channels.
I quit Keto because I didn't feel the best, and I think it's just down to my ancestry and epigenetics. I'm Mexican-Guatemalan, my ancestors have been reliant on Corn, Beans, and Squash for thousands of years. What I do now is avoid bread/rice and processed junk. I Stick to whole foods. Mainly eat Meats, and veggies. I stay away from anything with high amounts of sugar.
Isn’t rice natural food too?
Not everyone mate.
I do not care what other people do.
I am ketovore and I do not plan to change it.
I really appreciate your balance and common sense.
@ThomasDelauer, I'm curious what your personal diet now looks like and what you recommend for metabolically healthy performance-focused athletes who still want to maximize health and longevity. Are you still doing cyclical keto with 2 months keto followed by a month with more carbs and is that what you recommend?
I was smart and didn't go keto, instead I went casual keto, and I will never do anything different. Stuck to it now for 2 years, lost a ton of weight and love it. I think full keto was too hard for too many people.
Yes...I just do way less carbs and sugar and EAT WAY LESS !!
What is your definition of casual keto?
@@almaburns6562 Well, of course, I switched out what I regularly eat with more Keto friendly foods. I cut out almost all sugar and wheat, but not milk. Couldn't give up milk, although I tried, so I just drink a small glass a day.
I am doing Keto but still have my wheat. I need it for my digestive system to function properly. It helps me and I only have one small piece a day. The wheat bread I eat is from whole wheat berries that I ground to make my own bread. It has all the natural fiber. I’m still loosing weight and feel great now. ;) That is my version of “casual” Keto.
@@sheila7814 Hey, you gotta do you 😉.
