New Complete Tutorial for Raspberry Pi 3 : ▶▶ czcams.com/video/0084bZfQG3k/video.html
It can probably run crisis better than mine
Gary.....your reviews are technical and to the point....which is just awesome. Keep up the good work.
That's really cool
I've seen other video that further expands the user interface.
I'm going to get one of the 3s
This video came at a great time. I am just now really learning about Raspberry Pi because I want to make a media center that will allow me to play files that are on my computer and looking for the right model has been tough
I'm getting a pi 3.. so I can play with it.. i love computers and never heard of them until recently.. can't wait to get my hands on one.
Same, ordered on sunday, already was shipped, hope to get soon.
you havent heard of computers until recently?
Amendzz SlazTic haha, i thought this too!
FancySassy80 I feel schools should all switch to raspberry pi as there main school computer/cheaper/easier and better
Amendzz SlazTic I think he means raspberry pis
Im a big fan of the raspberry pi! Keep up the good work! Love this channel
we need an i7 and gtx 1080 on those
no we need an i9 and a 3080
Getting one of these to learn assembly language with the ARM ISA.
I actually just got an rPi2 for Christmas for a RetroPie build. I would love to see how the rPi3 handles a similar setup with ps1/dc/n64 games. I also wouldn't mind seeing if it works well enough for a low-traffic personal WordPress server, let's say for a home-served, single-page resume site.
I have a few ipads that are cloud locked and wonder if I could use the display with a Raspberry pi?
hmm I'm thinking of hardwiring a pi3 into my non-smart HD tv. just wondering if I'll be able to build a small media housing for my hard drives to sit comfortably next to my tv for all my content.
Is there any upgrade with the audio output?
It's pretty bad with the the Pi 2 and I am curious if it was improved in this version.
I enjoyed that rather well. And I fancy me more these, it's quite my cup of tea.
I would watch the whole video but the description summed it up thanks
Finally managed to buy one. Need to compile a real-time version of CRUX Linux kernel to make a backup/rear view camera for my van. It just needs to capture, compress and send the image over an ethernet cable where it can be picked up by the Pi 4 in the front. Everything else can be handled by Arduinos.
RPi 3 is awesome! For the d-bags posting shit in comments, RPi, might seem unrelated to Android, but it can help you build something as awesome as an home automation system, a remote controlled bot, and frankly anything, which can even be connected to your 'Android' app!
Hi. Can anyone tell me how easy/difficult is it to connect a pi 3 to Google Cloud print? Could not do it with Pi 1+ with Canon printer.
Never had any Raspberry Pi, my son got me a RP3 for Father's Day. I am looking forward to the learning curve.
how to know computer is running faster or not? what does 64bit means for? what is refresh rate?
Please can you make a video on how android enthusiasts can use this?
That would be a great idea!
+Abdullah Moiz cheap development board for android apps. You could use this to design and make a home built smart home which you can control from your phone, there's plenty of info on youtube and elsewhere if you go looking.
+Abdullah Moiz I have been thinking about doing a video showing how to control a cluster of Raspberry Pi boards from an Android device to crack MD5 hashes... It is all bespoke software that I wrote myself, so it will be quite complicated... but is that something you would like to see???
***** definitely
+Gary Sims I would like to see it, too! :) Do you have a project with source code online somewhere?
(See my earlier comment here for a link to my Github repositories.)
Can it drive a LEGO NXT motors or use its sensors? I mean is there any user-friendly (or even teenager friendly) APIs for this?
can i used it for replacement of computer of my school-does it support qbasic program and other program like Microsoft office package, codeblocks and other basic application as in windows
1:48 That is a creative way to explain things, good job.
5:58 Its probably a time to clean your monitor :P
+Dmytro Bogdan Thanks! I am looking into getting a green screen and then it will be even better!!!!
Does anyone know where I can get a pi zero for $5? They seem to be a lot more than that now.
I am considering buying one to us as an emulator for retro games, and/or for recording videos.
Just another suggestion...I've noticed that the videos you publish have a low volume in general . Can't hear you clearly despite viewing on maximum volume and I am forced to plug in headphones( clearly audible with headphones....on high volume). I've tried this across several devices....android phone, iPad and Windows PC
Would love to have a comparision of Pi3 and Odroid boards .
These might be good for home automation / home security. Since i believe that there is a camera add on board for this. This is just a fantastic little item.
You can do ANYTHING with these I love them, so cheap too
I think the term is inexpensive. The word cheap really sends a different message. :-)
DR Paquette true haha the connotations
I just ordered a pi 3, cant wait for it to arrive.
me to B-) and its my first one :p cant wait but it can takr up to 30 days before i get it beacuse its sending via china post on that way its free :)
+Patrick Nielsen its free to send lol 😁
What if you rebuilt the Kernel and menuconfig-ed it to 64 bit?
Check out the Up Board and the Dragon-board 410c also Mediatek released an x20 board!!
But will it blend?
Nice video, I like the new videos with gary like this and the gary explains series
But can it run crysis ?
Raspberry 1 was great for programmers like us..
literally bought the Pi2 the day before this was announced. Since I got it I just don't know where to start. Can anyone recommend me a good beginners guide, as a couple I have visited presume you are already confident with Linux
Great video Gary ! Keep up the good work :)
Can I run any non high end software using this???
emulators will b an interesting thing with the spec bump
Ps1 here I come
hows its at livestreaming live streaming to youtube
just learning about the Raspberry Pi
Can this run any games in the lowest settings?
can I play crisis 3 at 5k and everything on max sittings with zero lag .
That's interesting and I'm enjoying a lot my RPi2. How did you manage to do triple-boot on the official bootloader with OSMC and W10 IoT along with Raspbian?
+TommyThousandFaces When you boot into the NOOB installer you can select all 3 to install.
dome7960 Well I guess I should've hooked up the ethernet cable than. I don't get why the NOOB bootloader can't download OSs through wifi like Berryboot can (I did it so I know how that works lol).
A Pi 3 will be excellent for a laptop replacement, at least in terms of mobility, when it has a battery. I don't imagine that it would use a lot of power either. However a desktop or laptop will overpower it in terms of gaming. But I don't expect a tiny quad core processor to do gaming as its obviously not meant to.
why cant I find as review that goes over wifi performance? Thanks for the review.
hmm, im thinking very deeply whether or not this is the Pi truly worthy of a NAS I want. Granted i doubt the amount of ram won't help me, so I hope for the next gen Pi to be an even more viable way for a small NAS
What about Wi-Fi speed?
I could attach this to a monitor with Velcro and set up everything correctly. amirite? I could maybe make a little tablet 😂
but on a more serious note this really good for people looking to build their own devices and such. really happy about this.
We can pit windows or ios?
Hey its faster than my netbook with a intel atom and 32x ubuntu linux. You can actually successful launch and use firefox. On the netbook its always freezing.
Not vulnerable to meltdown and spectre from what I've heard 👊👊👊
It must have more power/amps than the pi 2. My pi 2 can't power an external hdd like we see in this video unless I do it with a usb hub. Also my pi 2 is no good at video playback (I've tried all sorts of different video sources, even 240p video playback is extremely choppy). Are there some sorts of video (codecs) that work better than others?
+M1cr0p47 And btw, if anyone wants to reply to what I said about video codecs. I just checked and I've been using the h.264 codec (possibly mpeg2.0 also, but I'm not sure).
thanks Garry
I wish they had put bigger ram or built in fast storage. But even without it its a great computer for tinkering or mediaplaying.
can i use this to make my dumb tv into a smart tv ?? using mobile as a remote ?
90AlmostFamous yes u can..
That was great, very technical video for a popular android site.
I had no idea about linux or raspberry pie but still found the video good. Can be done in a more educational way for those viewers who don't know about this technology and its use cases.
exactly what I was thinking
+Rajiv Kishore I advise learning about linux, it will be the OS of the future, it can run on nearly everything from the ISS, your smartphone, smart TV, fridges, routers, PCs, servers. Giant companies like Google, amazon, Facebook and banks use linux on the backend.
2 words "Kali Linux".
+Trojan Virus so much fun with Kali Linux 😊
+Olaitan Olasupo Horlagold what is that
im not a geek , So is there a place to buy rassberry pi 3 fully built with case and emulators/games
John Smith no unless you pay someone to do it for you
Can u program using c++ ?
Why would you want a 64bit processor with so little memory?
***** Yeah but with so little memory? you need at least 4GB to take advantage of the 64bit.
its not 64 bit as in x64 like intel and amd.
i did also read something about that something on the rpi doesnt support more memory
ProBro_NL ok
Just a ProBro saying hi to ProBro!
Ayyyy
Regular old shitty HDDs make some PCs slower than this
yes
I work in a repair shop and almost every Mac we get in needs a new hard drive. It's insane! I don't know how we survived before ssd's lol.
+Stephen Kluthe i went from 5400rpm drive to ssd and its like i got a brand new pc
MechHead Naga GMG Same here! I have a 6 year old laptop and it's faster then most new laptops with hdds
+kendokaaa ... in niche applications.
Instead of purchasing a set at a $150 price, what - besides Pi - is necessary to include as start-up for a gift? Thank you.
SD Card, Charger and HDMI cable.
I just bought a RasPi 3 media kit from PiHut. I can't wait until it's delivered :)
I see Gary Sim's video,I press LIKE
What happens when you over clock and what does it mean
you are asking a really easy question to get the answer. How about you google search it so you dont waste anyones time
Only 1m27 into the video and I'm already sold
Guys, I am not a tech savvy person so I need your expertise. I have a Tivo Roamio Plus with a lifetime subscription and I watch live TV and record TV shows with my Tivo. I really like using Tivo. It's very simple. Recently my roommate told me I might be able to get a Raspberry Pi, connect it to my modem/router and "perhaps" use it to watch my Tivo shows without commercials for the rest of my life? Is this possible? If possible, please let me know what steps I need to take to do so.
Can you install the operating systen via usb flash drive/external hard drive ?
You can, google it, but the easiest is with an SD-card
I still don't even know what the hell it does.
how can we do programming and how connect it with the Wi-Fi?
for programming u can install any linux distro and start coding in terminal
It is basically a smartphone-ish computer, but a very basic one. The programmable PIN connectors allow for lots of applications which is what made it take off with hobbyists, who otherwise would have to design their own embedded systems (like the processor in your washing machine) to do what they want.
I love Gary !
But now it annoys me when hes talking, hes talking lower and lower and then putting pressure on last word in every sentence.
Still very informing and thank you again for an awesome video Gary!!
I thought it all for gary mcKinnon...😀😀
Don't have one yet, but it seems like a nice toy that may be useful. Does this device run Java?
It's not a toy. You can run Python, i don't know about Java
Long live Mr. Garry Sims...
I got the RPi2 about one month before the 3 where announced...
+XZillA Ouch!
can you swap a pi 2 for a pi 3
can u make a video on review on Micromax phones
noticed that your osmc instilation has the date set to 1970. If only we had these things then :)
can i edit video on it
Can it run Kali Linux
I tried to use Pi 3 as my main computer for a day, and it was... painful, but doable. Not nearly as bad and unresponsive as the Pi 2, this time I was able to survive a day with it. Everything works really well on it, except the internet! Webpages take ages to load and render slowly, but scrolling once loaded is OK. Although it web browser seems to be pretty bad and just crashes often.
it's amazing for the price though, what is it like $50. There's NOTHING better for $50
I think it is still overpriced. I got mine with a camera for that price, and now they can be got on amazon for $36 shipped. There are a LOT of alternative boards to the Pi available that perform much better, most of them can run a stable version of android. I hate that the Pi is limited to 1GB of RAM and has bad GPU support.
***** but that's a phone, i am talking about computers
You can use a phone as a computer. Many smartphones have an HDMI display so that they can connect to a screen, and the USB port can go into a special USB hub for more ports. Throughput would be limited to USB 2.0 speeds in most cases unless you have a phone with a 3.0 port. There may even be a version of linux built for a phone! I do know ubuntu has done some work with this.
Getting one for a custom arcade machine to run on Retro Pi
I was gonna do the same but I was just gonna use my tv instead of an actual cabinet
That's sick asf how did it go?
+Dylan Ellis I forgot about it so I didn't do it
+Carlwithak rip are you gonna do it now?
I'm building a 4K video recording robot with it.
you can control robot and switch LED on with 1 dolar microcontroler either....
And you can run Linux and play HD movies with a 1 dolar microcontroler?
+Juraj Trent A statement like this proves you just don't get it. Yes you can control a robot and led with a $1 controller. You cannot control a robot/led, surf the web, play Flare, VPN into a remote server and watch a DVD at the same time with the $1 controller. It literally is a computer. Full blown. I use the crap out of mine. It is so versatile. Media center, controller... you name it.
I'm still rocking the pi 1. I hadn't used in a while, booted it up a few days ago and my first thought was, holy fucking shit this is so slow. I may at some-point buy the 3. But, who knows.
+matthew w I might buy one for online chatting and such, and arcade cabinets
Running Linux Atop my phone in the background is extremly fast compared to a raspberry pi but i have to say i like the convenience of a raspberry pi
Could it run pcsx2 ps2 emulator if yes it would be super awsm!
amazing video just what I was looking for
Just bought a Pi2 few weeks ago so can't buy a Pi3 anytime soon :(
where's the "android" ?
what are the os we can use on raspberry pi 3?
Raspbian, RetroPie, Windows 10 IoT, Pixel and many many more, just google search "linux for raspberry pi 3"
cant wait to get mine
this really convinced me to buy one thanks
one of the best things I've seen built using a raspberry pi is a portable pirate radio station...
background music is disturbing xD.
Give me an update when had has 2 Titan X's.
I coded a c++ linux-based web server that allows developers to use Lua to script webpages, the Raspberry 3 is what I'm using to run the program on, it's really nice (especially with a external SSD), I believe the performance would be okay for cheap real world website hosting.
Installing PHP is horrible on them though, not enough performance for something that hardware intensive.
+Newb Programming nginx, hhvm runs on anything
KlitButter
I'll take a look man.
awesome .. piece of hardware .. thanks for sharing
So did i heard it correct?! You can learn Java on this thing?
You can learn Python, too.
Interesting video, but I'm unsure why it would be on a channel called Android Authority if it doesn't run on android?
there actually are android ROMs for raspberry pi.
+deamondeathstone1 Android runs on linux, debian runs on linux too
+deamondeathstone1 There is no direct connection with Android, although as others do point out Android is based on Linux and uses ARM chips, like the Pi. However, while Android Authority is focused mainly on Android related material, we are also a tech site, hence the Pi 3 review among other things that we cover. We shouldn't let labels (i.e. channel names) limit us... don't you think?
Love your videos! Very informative
Thank you :)
