Finally a bike CZcamsr I like covering a non-garbage e-bike.
Gazelle is the only highly advertised brand (at least in my feeds) that isn't poop.
Take it from your friendly neighborhood e-bike co-op guy. Do yourself a favor and get a mid drive Bosch or Shimano powered bike from a shop near you that'll work on it.
My first memory of cycling is riding a little kids bike when I was about 5, getting T-boned in a hit-and-run by a driver, and somehow surviving that fine. 😬 Didn’t even stop me from riding my whole life, thankfully!
I bought this bike a year ago, besides immediately swapping pedals and saddle, I recently swapped stem and handlebar to the Surly Terminal and it's an absolute dream to ride.
Love the upgraded you made!
Even more stoked your still hyped on this bike.
(Maybe even more now because of the upgrades!)
Lost my pops a couple weeks ago. Very cool your doing this for yours. 👌👍🤜🤛
Interestingly, and old friend of mine used to call bikes with a sloping top tube "mens bikes" as opposed to conventional wisdom. When asked why he said, " when you crash there's no cross bar to crush your potatoes on, ergo Mens bike"
Can't argue with that logic...
Having owned several e-bikes, these upright style bikes are the best. The bosch motor is so natural. They are comfortable and practical. The kind of bike you love more and more as time goes on.
Your dad's gonna start his own youtubes where he and his crew watch wheel o fortune, then take the bikes out and smoke ganja before hogan's heros comes on
I love that you did this review, Dustin. We have a lot to learn from the Dutch about how to design bikes that are both practical and fun to ride. This one has so many features that make it great for commuting, like lights and fenders, and they don't look like cheap add-ons.
On a side note, Gazelle stills makes an old-style steel Dutch bike called the Tour Populair, and I REALLY want one.
I agree, yes to that brown Nissan 280ZX. For me, I'd change the saddle, see if I can swap a larger range cassette & upgrade the rotors & pads.
That Nissan was outta sight!
I noticed they have a 10sp option which has a higher cost. I couldn’t tell if there was much more to it then that.
Nice urban bike. Bosch mid drive motor is awesome. They are quiet, dependable and Bosch customer service is the best.
The lighter the bike, the lighter your wallet.😆. My Cannondale Synapse ebike is 37 pounds with a range over 100 miles. Was not cheap, but worth it to me🥰🚴♀️
Perhaps not my first, but my BEST bike memory was my “Banana Peeler” I bought myself with funds from my paper route.
An early bike memory is my friend and I both had bikes and dogs. In our neighborhood were some old coal mine trails. The dogs would run with us as we biked there and back. Dog vibe
Never seen such a sponsor packed video ever. You must have made thousands of bucks with this one. Eazy money…..😊
This is a really interesting review. I've honesly been considering an ebike for my commute, and gazelle are a great brand.
The spec over here is a little different, our ebikes don't assist at as high a speed (but you get more range), but basically it's the same deal. There's also a higher spec option that can take a second battery so thats pretty cool, something to consider if you need more range or just want to run it on turbo everywhere.
Player! I saw you out riding this ebike as I was ripping downhill out of Forest Park on Thurman. Must have been right before the clip at 6:54. Great video as always!
I own a woodshop, and am starting to cycle. And I’m in Oregon. I bet we’d all get along nicely haha!
Schwalbe's "tough" commuter tires tend to be too hard to have good wet/cold grip, so really watch out for the black ice or greasy road if the bike is intended for all-season use. Speaking from someone who fell once with the Big Apples and another time on Marathon Plus...
These Energisers aren't as stiff as the tyres you mention cos they don't have as much puncture protection (though they are still very tough), but they're made from a harder compound so are still not performance tyres by any means. Fine for steady commutes but hard cornering is a very bad idea lol. I run mine at a slightly lower pressure for comfort, loss of rolling resistance irrelevant as it's an ebike & I never commute more than 20 miles a day anyway.
I love PAS and 20mph is the limit I can comfortably pedal an analogue, anything faster is on me to push like an analogue the e-part just makes all year commutes and camping adventures easier to say yes to. Earliest bike memory is my mum sending me down a hill, the biggest hill in our area, to learn how to ride
Gazelle from my country The Netherlands! 😂 The company is located at the Dutch Village of Dieren which translates to Animals...😂
we Dutchies can do stuff
i love how you tried to make the best of this one.
Bosch battery and motor is the way to go! Love my Tern GSD!
Mi madre me enseñó a rodar bicicleta, nunca lo voy a olvidar gracias mamá!! Thank you Dustin great video!!
Cheers Thomas!
My wife got a trek allant+ 7S this year for commuting. I tell you what it's a blast to ride.
A great mid-drive for pops. You're a good son Dustin.
Dat is een prima fiets maat.
Groetjes uit Nederland
My first memory was my brother and his friend getting on their bikes to go fishing. I was stubborn and wanted to go with them. My brother was very against the idea, he and his friend just took off. I followed the best I could for like a mile on my tiny fixie but they outpaced me. I did pretty good for about 5 years old. Lol
let me tell you, that Alivio stuff is legit. Frame looks pretty awesome too. Cool bike!
My wife has one of these and uses it in Eugene weekly. Loves it. Great bike.
The recap nails it. I've got well over 1000 miles on my gazelle.
man I thought you had stopped posting, I guess when your name changed on your channel the algorithm stopped showing me your videos on my feed, good to see them going still
Glad we were able to reconnect! Good to hear from you.
I'll keep this in mind when I eventually have to go back to the office one day a week.
Amazing video!! You’re editing is insane! Subbed ❤
Love that you are covering e-bikes Dustin. Let’s go for an e-trike ride sometime. If you recall, you tested out my Azub at the Columbia Park gathering. O\_o-~
the 280zx with the basket on top was pretty cool.
I had to go back for that shot it was too cool to pass up.
I always ride through the sculpture at 4:08
What's the pouch on your USWE harness? Looks super useful!
Uhhhhhh. In your intro you say your dad started listening to the Dead again??? I’m pretty certain once you listen to the Dead, you never stop!✌️Hope he loves the bike.
Popeye laughed was well played. Great video, again….
Michael, honestly appreciate that. I was a bit self conscious about that one LOL
I thought I saw you on Clinton this last weekend. I like the sus on the e bike. Also Ornot has a nice merino shirt.
Thanks 🎉
Now get some Phish in his ears too, Fall tix even!🍁🍂🐠
Done and done!
Wussup G! Love your new haircut lol
My first memory of cycling is my mum selling my bmx that i was too big for at the age of 5 or so, man the tears involved
Thanks
Would you rock this bike Neil? Personally curious.
Dustin flies like a Gazelle !
DKlein can make anything fun and interesting to watch.
A Gazelle! Classic dutch bike brand, nice! ❤
I love it!
@@EverythingsBeenDone looking forward to your review of a typical oldskool dutch "oma fiets" one day 😎
I've been in that Submarine! I believe it's the one from the Hunt for Red October, if I'm not mistaken!
My first memory of being on a two wheeler is the going down my aunt's driveway on my walkbike
Bosch motors are very good but have a design flaw. If the chain comes off between the front cog & motor casing it gets jammed solid & can be very difficult to remove. The full chain guard on this bike makes it even harder, so remove it & replace with either a chain retainer device or a retaining ring on the cog. Honestly, its a serious design flaw that doesn't get the attention it deserves, everybody I know with a Bosch motor ebike has had it happen to them.
Honestly I have doubts that it is good to get more people on bikes. Most of the new e-bike-drivers in Germany are people who haven't ridden a bike before and most of them seem to have no clue about the rules in traffic at all- basically they run too fast in situations where you should slow down because of traffic issues and other road users and the don't even care about any rules at all.
I wish I could put a Bosh under my Creo SL... noisy-AF 😉
amplify the effort!
Passing on this one, I'd want the 40% range increase that comes with 10lbs more battery, etc. (I'm also fat, lol)
Like your "review", but why would you get rid of the café-lock (new word to me). With an extension cable you can easy hook it around a lamppost and secure the bike. Just wanting to know. And i just wanted to say, Gazelle is a Dutch brand.
Here in Holland we call that a 'ringslot' which would translate to 'ring lock'. Cafe lock' is a bit Daft yes.
Ahhh, my first memory about cycling. After several failed attempts I finally got it going sorta quickly, and ran into a parked car. Stopping? Forget about that.
Oh man this is a good one. Glad that didnt stop you!.....on your cycling journey ;)
1st memory: Solid tyres :)
First memory is crashing a Montgomery Ward Orange Bike into a tree in front of our house. Face took a heavy scrape, unforgettable!!
I've been looking at e-cargo bikes recently as a viable car alternative.
If you can swing it do it. I’ve got a load 75 and it’s awesome. I take my kids and with panniers can still do a medium grocery shop.
@dustinKlein_
would this bike support a heavier rider? I'm 300lbs looking to use it as a fitness/commuter?
Great question!
The gazelle site does have this to say about rider weight: www.gazellebikes.com/en-us/faq/what-is-the-weight-limit-for-gazelle-bikes
My take is that it would be fine for you.
Keep me posted. Would love to hear what you end up getting.
@@EverythingsBeenDone Thanks! my bad I didn't see that
i would need a pocket on the Merino , for my Camels of course
My Dad trying to teach me to ride, and me just not getting it. Then a year later a friend told me to get on my bike, and it just clicked.
Merino tees look good if you don’t have moobs and a cerveza compartment. At which point you need the tech button down. Or so I have heard…🙄😬
Mid drives are the best, we hate seeing hub drives come into the shop for flat repairs.
"Is the glass half empty or half full?"
Two things can be true at the same time.
This video also serves as an indictment of the available amount of bike paths…
I cried the day Daft Punk ended.
Most ebikes like that suck if you ride regular working stuff. Suspension is just junk always. I don't know, I would rather rigid fork or something.
The worst thing about E bikes is they look like a E bike I personally can’t get past that kinda like buttermilk can’t get past that too
Lets not call Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres cushy
Fair enough!
To be fair, these are schwalbe energiser, which aren't as stiff as marathon plus. However, they're made from a harder compound so are still pretty unforgiving & do not handle well on corners. I run mine at a slightly reduced pressure & ride steady on them (I only use my ebike for commutes & errands, it's basically a work vehicle), and as such they are very good tyres, very durable, good in wet/gravel/slush if ridden carefully, & no punctures after 1000s of urban miles.
Your pronounciation of "Schwalbe" is really funny. At leas for me.
I am to please ;)
I work at a bike shop in westfield mass. And i sell these and aventon. It is nice to get people on bikes. Or keep them on bikes my recent customer, 72 years old.
But i turn to you dustin for an escape and youre reminding me of work 😩🤣
Did your dad get it before the video?
Ahh
Looks like he gets it tomorrow.
I hope we doesn’t see this first. 🤞
Hopefully he hasn’t clicked the bell haha.
God I miss overlook...
And the Esplanade...
Zoowee
I dunno, but 50 lbs. is waaaay too much.
E-bikes are way more dangerous than non electric ones and defeat the whole purpose of bikes to begin with.
Amen to that. Encountered a guy that was "riding" his gas-powered "bicycle" on the trail this afternoon. Blurted out "Get a motorcycle" as he passed me in the opposite direction. It aint cheating if you're not e-biking.
Where I live they limited to 25kmph so aren’t fast. They come with bigger brakes so stop great. What’s “way more dangerous” about an ebike?
