- Quick video describing how to fix up a rusty bike chain. I use bike grease and a brass brush. Then treat the chain with bike chain lube.
I've been using Finish Line Dry Chain Lube great stuff with lots of good reviews on Amazon. 🚲Link to Amazon amzn.to/3c8voYX
Some of the tools I use
🚲Bike Hand Chain Gage amzn.to/3wRSJGx
🚲Bike Hand Bike Repair Stand amzn.to/3fVjVxe
🚲Bike Hand 37 pcs Tool Kit amzn.to/2TlEJ9h
My chain got rusted in a month LOL
Glad I can clean it now!
Good luck, If you keep the chain greased up I've had them last for a long time.🚴🚴🚴
Clean and lubricate your chain every few rides or very minimum once before and after a riding season
@@chris103193 i wish i had better tools for cleaning it though haha
Thank you for this video. I watched it and then used WD40 to clean all the rust off the chain and the sprockets of an old bike using the same brushing technique. It worked like a charm. Did not need anything other than the WD40 and the brush.
Excellent 👍
not thank you
@@larrymartineau7507 thank you Larry
@@larrymartineau7507 can i wash the chain off with water after applying WD40 and brushing? Or do i need to wipe?
Some suggest you should not be using WD-40 as it is harmful!
I love this product !
This guy has such a relaxing voice
Thank you for the video!!
Grease is needed to prevent future rust, but does it remove previously built up rust as well?
no, thats why he is removing the rust this way
How would great remove current rust man lol that's why he's brushing it off. The grease helps remove while brushing and keeps it more gentle than just scratching the metal+rust with the brush without grease. Only a chemical can just be placed on Rust and dissolve it but nobody wants to put chemicals on their bike chain as it will weaken it and may be too harsh. So bam, a brush and some grease, then clean it off and use the lube and we should be good to go.
@@drjonesey5 You hit the nail on the head. Perfect
@@larrymartineau7507 would wd40 weaken your chain? I heard WD 40 is. No no I’m bike maintenance world
grease is NOT needed. Keep rust.
I never thought about steel wool, thanks
Havw you thought about maybe not de-rusting a perfectly rusty bike chain?!?! Make the world rusty again! 🌍🌎🌏
Mix baking soda and salt and after 2 days the chain i like new.
Hi, where do you get those brushes? Thx.
Local hardware store. 🚴♂️
Cool
It is not.
This bike needs more than a chain cleaning.
😂😂😂
Cant you just remove it and put it in some vinegar over night and wipe it clean?
the vinegar might be too acidic which might result in the chain to dissolve.
1st time watching this guy's vids , just curious, is this millhouse from the Simpsons 😂
IT WAS JUST NECESSARY TO SOAK IT IN A SOLVENT
Like what Methylated spirits?
Kola dökecek.
Maybe you should figure out how to use that chain checker tool 😂

That video is okay, but this one is better 👉 czcams.com/video/MUVtDgv4eLQ/video.html
So no need to remove the actual chain.. good news less steps
Yes you can clean it on the bike. 🚴♂️🚴♂️
Can i use brake fluid?
No it was corrode everything.. better use blinker fluid
@@elonramsay2406 thnks i am new to this stuff
@@boxrexarts how old are you

@boxrexarts blinker fluid doesn't exist. That's some old dad joke. Use wd40 like this video or ask someone at your local bike shop and they'll give you a hand
Hi DIY Mountain Bike, I’m working on a new Cleaning TV Series for Ricochet TV Production Company (the makers behind The Repair Shop on BBC One) & we’d potentially like to feature this video. Could you make your email address available on your channel or website for business enquires?
Go for it!

it seems like buying a new chain is more time efficient
You are exactly right! 🚴♂️🚴♂️
Absolute rubbish
why?
@@jazzzzzCat Absolute rubbish aka I don't like this so it's trash. So tell me which one applies to you.
1-Snob Amateur bike rider
2-Own a Bike shop or works in one
3-Bike enthusiast (You work on Bikes or buy and fix them)
I don't see anyone else that would all this "rubbish". You have to be a snob or involved with bikes and think you know better not the average person. Tell me I'm wrong.
I just followed his directions and it worked like a charm. So I don't think it's rubbish. Thanks DIY Mountain Bike!
Mountain bike season? There isn’t a season. Just get out there and ride
@@simonhaywood7219 lmfao
If I ddon't have any lube or grease can I use WD40?
