I love how Hawkgirl's and Hawkman's main form of attack is just beating a their opponents senseless with a mace like two majestic, flying, cave people.
Like that one player who just presses strike over and over again
They have no major recurring villains because they just kill them with a medieval magical mace.

The Arrowverse version of the Hawks is WAY simpler than any of these. Simply put Kendra Saunders and Carter Hol are reincarnations of ancient Egyptian royals whose spirits find each other every time their human bodies die. And that's it. SIMPLICITY!!!

My first introduction to DC characters was the animated Justice League. I was always under the impression that Hawkman was the side kick to Hawkgirl.

Imo, DC should drop the whole hawkman/hawkgirl pairing and just give us a thanagarian warrior Hawkwoman like the one from the Justice League cartoon. That's the version of the character that everyone knows and loves and that's for a reason. She's awesome and wayless complicated and ridiculous than this whole reincarnation/soul swapping fiasco.
Meh. There's already enough humanoid alien superheroes (especially in DC) as it is. The reincarnation origin is more unique and lends itself to more interesting stories.
I also want the Hawkgirl without pairing with Hawkman, because as long as she continues in that pairing she will be greatly overshadowed and will not get the value she deserves. Her origin in the comics is confusing, the character suffers from different versions. They should leave Shayera Hall as Hawkgirl, her story in the Justice League animation was very good, Bruce Timm had a good idea for the character. I would love for DC to wear it at DCU and in more DC comics, Wonder Woman needs a female companion

The show ends with Hawkman fighting the Shadow Thief, the spiritual embodiment of his love and obsession for Shayera, breaking their endless cycle of death and reincarnation. He dies so that Shayera can finally live a life of her own.
If you read the current comics, dc has been using the Kendra Saunders Hawkgirl to have her be similar to the Hawkgirl in JLU

i literally got lost and just admired the pictures lol. Animated version is so much better, She's a total badass, fierce and always fights well. Her military training, combat skills, and her strength is superior to that of humans, makes her a tough adversary.
Hawkgirl form Justice league should be the only one. After watching this video I care less about the comics about her.

I like hawk girl a lot. Basically entirely cuz of the justice league cartoon. I don’t like her in legends of tomorrow though. I liked the alien one from hawkworld especially in the episodes based around it in the justice league series, especially ‘star-crossed’. She seems greatly improved in this series. Also like the one in earth 2.
I prefer the Thanagarian/JLU Hawkgirl character more because Kendra really annoys me but I prefer the reincarnation/love relationship between Hawkgirl and Hawkman better. I love them because no matter what crazy backstory or universe we're talking about they always love each other. They are like the greatest love story! Just super weird and confusing..... Lol
I honestly think that the best decision would have been to just both pairs of Hawks coexist, like the Flashes or the Lanterns, because IIRC at some point the made Carter the Hawkman in the original Justice League of America, the original sin was thinking that they needed to do something different from Jay and Allen (and Al, and Wesley).

So, are we going to get a follow up with the NEW versions of the hawks. Carter Hall replacing Katar Hol after he dies, Kendra becoming the JL's hawkgirl and Shayera being alive and becoming her animated counterpart down to her hair color changing and wearing the armor she wore in Starcrossed.
Geoff Johns or Grant Morrison REALLY need to give the Thanagarians a goddamn book. Secret New Origins and ALL.
My personal favorite is the animated series Hawk girl
Animated Hawkgirl was awesome, I had no idea the backstory was so convoluted

It kinda seems like no one actually read any of this character's preceding story before adding her to new ones.

I still remember the Justice League cartoon's version of her, she will always be my favorite version of the character.
I like the animated justice league version more than the legends Hawkgirl. Her personality meshed with me more and the mythos overall was more interesting to me.

I like both depictions of Hawkgirl. However I think that the Days of future past hawkgirl incorporated more of her past history. and reincarnations make a lot of sense now after hearing her past. The writers basically cleaned up her story and gave her a super villain powerful enough to keep people interested.

Justice League (tv series) made me like Shayera and John Stewart who are both underrated as fuck in their comic iterations. Now if only they got the same amount of love and care in the comics...

Man it is a shame that things got more complicated after this episode was written and Dark nights metal came out a few months later.

And then in dark knights metal we meet lady black hawk, named Kendra Saunders, except this time she is the reincarnation of some Egyptians, and she gets corrupted, briefly turns evil (for like a page or 2) and gets her wings back, fights alongside Wonder Woman, and now she is a part of the justice league (and renames herself hawkgirl). So now we just have 1 hawkgirl.
You'd think after rebooting their universe a third time that DC would want to keep this simple. I'd like to see the Thanagarian Hawkgirl make a comeback in the comics.

My headcanon is the one from the Justice League cartoon, only added that one of their reincarnations were the Hawkman and Hawkgirl of the Golden Age, they were part of the Justice Society and died during battle. Later, they reincarnated as the modern age Hawkman and Hawkgirl from the Justice League

Yeah I think I'll just stick with the Justice League cartoon version of Hawkgirl thanks. Way less confusing and thanks to the fact that she has her own agency and isn't a forced tie-in to Hawkman, is more fun of a character to watch.
Now this sort of makes a little more sense than Hawkman's history, probably because she was a support character for Hawkman. Though still very confusing. I like how Legend's of Tomorrow explains the (Arrowverse) history of the two characters. It will be cool to see Golden and Silver Age Hawk couples back in continuity, since I like their stories best.

The Justice League cartoon was great, but it brings me a lot of anger when people have that as their only knowledge of the DC universe, and think Hawkgirl and Green Lantern John Stewart are actually great characters.
+The Fantastic Paul Sadly the same can be said for marvel fans who have only watched the movies. Some people are just unwilling to devote time to do proper research on characters.

I vote animated.Not because the Live-Version sucks but because the animated gives me less of a headache than the comic version, while still being interesting. Dunno how the RealLife version is comaring since I havent seen much of her anyway :p

My suggestion, Joker team's up with Sanders, call the story line "Bucket of pain or 11 spices of death." This will kill off and prevent the resurrection of whomever the company doesn't want. Keep the Hawks from Justice League Unlimited. Ancient Egyptians, who writes this stuff?

I haven't seen the Arrowverse version of Hawkgirl, yet, but I enjoyed the DCAU version of her as a kid.
And this is why distillation and abridgement are a necessity.

TBH DC would be better off if they just settled on a pair of Hawks and stopped sweating the continuity. No one's gonna give a hoot about a bunch of books published 30+ years ago or the confusion surrounding them if they would publish Hawk stories about literally anything other than shuffling them around and trying to fix the continuity.
The problem is there's so many different interpretations of the Hawks and every writer and editor has their own picks as to which ones are their favorites, so everyone keeps trying to shuffle their history around so they're writing their favorite hawks. No other character has this problem. Hawkman being so niche really adds to the problem. Everyone has a kind of mythologized idea of who Superman or Batman is, you can mess with the specifics but the broad strokes are always gonna be the same, Hawkman not so much.
Kendra being the Hawk in the Legends of Tomorrow show will probably help stabilize things for a while. DC will probably want that sweet brand synergy. The inevitable Hawkman movie I imagine we'll get if DC ever get's it's film game together will hopefully do the same.

For the new comics from Marvel just start at issue 1 for each comic (Star Wars, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Lando, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan and Anakin, and Shattered Empire). For the old expanded universe start with one of the Legends omnibuses that Marvel recently put out then go from there
