      One question. What is the game called?

    The kickstarter for the Tank expansion for Great War just hit Kickstarter. You can also add a copy of the base game onto a pledge.
    I managed to clip my minis off with only one bayonet casualty. They have learnt their lesson for the expansion and I believe the tanks come pre assembled.

    Thanks Sam. PSC doing a Kickstarter on this was a turn off for me, the lack of art on the cards was another and the bayonet-less troops sunk it for sure. I hope there's a Version 2 some day.

    I hope this does not sound like a silly question, but I am rather confused about the battle dice, what each face denotes, how many should be applied, how much damage each one does etc. This may be because this is the first boardgame I have played using command and colour. I hope this makes sence

    Just bought the game. One thing I don't get if the bomber figurine has to be added to a group of 4 riflemen or a group of 3 riflemen. And if they get hit, who is removed first?

    Thanks for the review Sam, I've been waiting for this one. You did not however mention, if this is a Memoir killer. In case you had to pick only one?

    • @SamHealey6
      @SamHealey6 Před 8 lety

      +Moe Joe It isn't a M44 killer for me, because I enjoy WW2 history more than WW1. I will be keeping both, as there are not a lot of games in my wheelhouse that cover WW1 history. And frankly, the production quality of M44 is WAYYY better.

  • @stevensargevertessen7913

    Did you cut them out of the sprue or did you remove them by hand?... I can't imagine damaging the models if you cut them out with special tools... :/

  • @kommodore6691
    @kommodore6691 Před 8 lety +1

    Should probably use a sprue cutter or similar tool to remove the miniatures.

    Looks neat but I'll stick with Ancients. It just echoes so much more epic history for me. Awesome review though sam! Still waiting for the Tannhäuser review.

    My brother and I tried to recreate a WW1 scenario with the Memoir 44 set and every incarnation seems to miss the mark. I don't know if its because the system doesnt work out with that theme or because a WW1 trench warfare scenario just doesnt offer much gameplay or strategy diversity.

    Sam... give me some love here... how in Hell do you manage to remove the soldiers without turning them into cripples... trying to cut out the racks. I used every pair of small scissors etc I own... all I get it is cripples...

    Sam... I discovered a company called Historic Gaming... they sell Axis and Allies WWI soldiers by Country... it's worth the money to get better mini's... IF not why not use Memoir 44 pieces? Just a thought...

      Not at all. Where I live, it's really hard to find people to play; especially these bigger types of games. I play a lot of big war and train games all by myself and still have a ton of fun.

    Here's a good one for ya Sam: Would you rather keep this game or keep Memoir 44? I haven't bought either of them. I'm just thinking Memoir 44 is the one to get (based on previous Dice Tower reviews including yours). Saw this at my local store a few days ago. Sounds like a great game, honestly. I highly appreciate all your work!

      +Steve Pruneau WWII > WWI

    • @thedicetower
      @thedicetower  Před 8 lety +5

      +Steve Pruneau Because I enjoy war history, it doesn't replace Memoir '44. If I enjoyed WWI history more than WWII history, it might replace it...because the two do have a difference in flavor based on the different combat style of the two eras. On component quality and artwork, Memoir '44 blows this outta the water...no contest. But even that is somewhat unfair because of the different companies having produced the two games.

    With the machine gun barage card (yes, played illegaly) you added a die to their attack and you could attack twice. Then you rolled once and got one infantry, then rolled again and got one infantry again. And you said that they can ignore that second infantry, which sounded like you would accumulate results of both attacks, which sounds not logical to me. Wonder what rules say about additional attacks. I think every attack should be resolved independently. Or maybe this just sounded this way :)

    • @SamHealey6
      @SamHealey6 Před 8 lety

      +wr00t I checked the rulebook, and it says that, "Battles are checked and resolved one ordered unit at a time, in the sequence of the player's choice. Announce and resolve one unit's battle entirely before beginning the next one." It doesn't specifically mention how the Machine Gun Barrage card plays out, which says that it "combats twice". So, your interpretation could very well be correct, but at the same time I had not moved on to the next ordered unit, either. So, my interpretation could be correct, too. I'll look into it.

    • @wroot_lt
      @wroot_lt Před 8 lety

      "Announce and resolve one unit's battle entirely before beginning the next one." This implies, that you should resolve one battle before beginning next battle (the word "beginning" is the key, as you can't begin next unit:)). Anyway, i think i've played in the past by resolving combats independently. If multiple combats would have a cumulative resolution, then why not just give more dice and make the player roll just once instead of multiple rolls :)

    Compared to Memoir 44 this WW1 game looks overcomplicated, ugly aven boring. Memoir, 44 Axis&Allies, Conquest of the Empire and Shogun are the aces for me

    A well made review but to be honest I would not make it past five minutes playing this game. This looks boring to put it kindly. Trench warfare?
