    The Second Biggest expense is HealthCare Cost, which was left off and if you plan on livng here full time will depend on your income, it could be as low as $30 per month if you are low income and that pays for nothng or $350 per month which also covers nothing so, this needs to be explained as well, along with if you plan on living close to the way you live in the states not like a local ( washing clothes by hand, no hot water) if will cost you more here than in America, that s the truth

    GREAT GREAT POINT:
    12:08 The main point is to come to medellin not to take advantage of the low cost of living, it's to LEVERAGE the low cost of living. The whole point is to grow and to become better. It's not to come here take advantage of the low cost of living, get old and die.... I don't want to become that: not contribute anything to society, not grow as an individual, and not help anybody else. I always want to help people, I always want to grow, I want to create a community.

    This video was a real attention getter for me. I am single age 57 and just retired in sept. 2023 from a 32 year career with a monthly Pension of $3000 a month. I have been to Colombia twice, To Bogota and Cali. I preferred Cali over Bogota. I have not been to Medellin, but from the many videos I have watched, it seems the place to be at in Colombia. I do not at this time plan to move to a Latin country permanently, as I own a home, cars, etc. I would like to stay for a month or so in a Latin country to improve my Spanish. I do speak decent Spanish, as I live in South Texas very close to the Mexican Border and I have been to Mexico many times over the past 20 years, but I really need to immerse myself in it to learn more and use it daily. Thank you for this video, the break down on costs was exactly what I needed to see. I believe Mexico is also close to these prices of cost of living, of course depends on what city.

      Cali is better than Medellin in basically all areas.

      Can you detail some? I'd love to do a comparison video when I visit there this year. I've talked to some of my Colombian friends that live in Cali, and they tell me the opposite about their city. Infrastructure is not as good (meaning water, electricity, internet, and public roads), public transportation is far from Medellin's, they also feel that the crime rate (robberies) is higher, and statistically speaking they are, same with murder rate. Another thing that they mentioned was the poverty rate is very high. It's so bad that the government hasn't even put out property statistics. Again, this is coming from Colombians. It might be a very different experience for a foreigner.

      @@investmentanalyst779 why do you propose Cali over Medellin?

    • @investmentanalyst779
      @investmentanalyst779 Před 16 dny

      @@CMichelleWhite better food, significantly cheaper, friendly people, more authentic. Too many Americans in Medellin. No reason a Cafe should cost $66 American dollars lol crazy. Tourist traps everywhere in Medellin. Just stay away from Medellin if you want to have a good time. Even the hotel in Cali was wayyyy better than Medellin. Hotel Spiwak Chipichape compared to Novotel, not even close. Very nice, super friendly staff.

    Why does "misc" and "entertainment" take up nearly HALF the unfurnished budget?
    Those figures seem extremely high.

      I went very conservative. Meaning that I kept it high because even at the highest, it's still very affordable.

    Finding the apartment is the greatest hassle here, what is you see if not what you get, lots of scams, fiador and docs needed, and even with a visa they don't want to rent it to you unless they 100% mark it up. The only and best way for a "gringo" is to use Airbnb and prices are around $800-$1500. Once you have a contact you can save the airbnb fees, that's about it. The sub $800 apts are in very very busy spots where sleeping is almost impossible.

    $120 per month for food is misleading. You will be spending this amount per week. Food in medellin is not cheaper than in usa.

    I would like to add an item to a rental unit that may or may not be provided in a furnished rental and is almost never in an unfurnished one, a safe in which to store your valuables. You should be able to find one at Exito or a larger one at Homecenter

A veteran here on a tourist visa watched a channel like this promoting low cost of living gets into a car accident in a taxi no fault of his own, taxi insurance company payed supposedly 80% of the cost of his 3 week hospital stay he paid the other 20% in payments to cover $3400 usd plus he did not have, that sounds bitter to you?
