    Until recently the retail price of petrol and diesel fuel was ~50p/litre including the profit margin for the producer, supplier and the retailer. The UK Government added swinging fuel duty at 57.95p/litre (=£1.0795) then added VAT at 20% on both the fuel price *and the duty* (= £1.2954)! The oil producer, distributor and retailer made a small profit (~3p/l?) but the Government charged the consumer ~80p. Meanwhile, the use of 'Gas Oil' (Red Diesel) at 5% VAT is being further restricted.
    The DERV duty/tax is an unfair burden on hauliers and a 'hidden tax' that will be passed on to consumers. Meanwhile, jet fuel attracts zero duty/tax and millions of Americans pollute our atmosphere in their gas-guzzling, inefficient, oversize vehicles!

    While fuel prices are high I've been using premium E5 Vs standard E10, works out I currently save ~2p per litre for the extra distance using E5 and a higher octane (currently I can spend an extra 8p and in Sainsbury's E5 97 octane costs 6p more)... It's not a massive saving but I might as well go a bit further On a fuel up xD

    • @khalidacosta7133
      @khalidacosta7133 Před 2 lety

      Well you have no idea how engines and cars work then. Octane doesn't give you better fuel economy. It's a measure on how much compression it can take in an engine before self-igniting. That's it. Infact E10 have a higher octane. It's why tuned race cars use E85 - 85% Ethanol, rather than your standard dino juice, as it's octane rating can go over 110!! So go fuel up with E10 and actually save money. Premium fuel tends to have better detergents, so your fuel consumption decrease is most likely down to detergents cleaning up your fuel system.

      Efficiency wise massive depends on the driving so stop start or motorway Cruise, and the weight of the truck. Normally ranges at good efficiency low teens mpg, a decenty Heavy laden truck in town is going to be getting low single figures🤣

      The politics and economics are getting towards tipping point for fossil fuels and I could see the hydrogen fuel cell finding a place in haulage. Probably not in domestic car use as most manufacturers of cars are moving towards battery power now, but for hgv's there is no clear winning technology yet. So, I guess time will tell.
