There is a big issue cause of the colorism in Genshin Impact and not giving proper appreciations to the cultures and religions used for the creation of Natlan. Cy is just trying to be entertaining and have some fun. He wants them to change and will not give them money until said changes happen, but we will not judge you for giving them money. Kinich is definitely who I’m most interested in. The techy dendro characters are the coolest in my eyes, and Kinich seems no different with how Ajaw looks
Skin color and representation issues aside, as character designs they do look really nice. Darker skin would've been nice to contrast Mualani and Kachina's bright colors, but sadge. Big fan of the new style of drip marketing with the splash art. I agree with the sentiments against Hoyoverse, but as someone with more pressing personal matters to worry about I'm just not interested in jumping into the drama hellhole that's just gonna tire me out more.

Actual mayan here, I love Kinich's motifs and I am loving his pixelated companion. The color they put him in the splash art is better than the one they put in trailer so all good, I'm totally pulling for him.
I’m actually curious what these motifs are. Kinich’s deign core seems to be based off of modern latinamerican street fashion, and I have no clue what the pixelation and quadratic artistry symbolizes. Asking as a Jabao Dominican :)

@@MrsLova Quintana Roo, México and yes. Most people in Mayan towns here are bilingual, speak both Mayan and Spanish. Some people speak only Mayan and some speak Spayan?? Spanish with Mayan words intertwined.

I'm very happy that we didn;t get the borig stereotypical Amazonian tribal designs most other media uses when they take inspiration from Mesoamerican cultures. XD
Also really love the dynamic poses, thy're so full of energy/life, and personality, Can;t wait to pull for them.
As a new player I'm speed running to get to Natlan. Still wish most of the cast was a bit more darker. Considering where the inspiration comes from.
Especially Olorun which was disgusting.

Even if you (general "you" not cyyu ofc) don't care about the lack of any dark skinned characters especially in cultures with commonly dark-skined peoples being USED for the game (weird champ but ok...) it's just extremely weird to make an entire world and the diversity goes from paper white to lightly tanned. Especially characters that spend their entire lives living in the desert under the sun. Barely tanned.... it's goofy af and terrible world building
its not earth and its a work of fiction it doesn't have to follow anything that exists in our world, and besides its a Chinese game this whole culture issue really isn't a thing and even more so lighter skin is just what the prefer you can't tell a country of over billion people and a history going back thousands of years to change to your social standards, and just because you live in desert doesn't magically mean you have dark skin, tan for sure but dark skin not really
I'm from Mexico, and while I'm a white passing mexican I Stull now that mpre than 70% of the population in Latam has from tanned, to dark, to black skin. The characters should be made to represent said conditions, I know I'm nor fighting for myself, but for some of my closest friends who have a darker skin that me, they should get the representation they deserve

@@Woolint The characters so far seem to have african names, as far as i've heard. But i think natlan as a whole is based on pre-colonial america, africa + a lot of aztec design choices. I may be wrong though

For the people who don’t care, you’re entitled to your opinion but please stop making fun of people who do care! Just cuz you don’t care doesn’t mean we shouldn’t.
That is the issue though. Whether you care or not both sides are entitled to their opinions, yet i’ve seen quite a few places where the ones who don’t care just want to talk about the game and stuff only to have the ones who do suddenly jump in and bring up the whole skin colour and cultural appropriation argument when no one was even talking about it.

Kinda sucks when the ones that do care outright attack people who don't seem to feel the same way (or aren't even aware of the problem). A tictok influencer who covers Genshin wanted to do a welkin giveaway and just got hated on for not being part of the "boycott." Note, they didn't even know what was going on yet and just got bombarded.
I care the moment it starts reaching my space.
What really irks me is the development team CLEARLY researches different cultures to influence each region in meticulous detail - music, architecture, wildlife, plants, architecture, food, fashion, names, etc. But then they insist on making all of the characters light-skinned.
Obviously, not EVERYONE in a given region is going to be dark-skinned, but by the same logic, not everyone should be light-skinned either.
I think the appreciation for culture is clashing here with the dislike for dark-skinned characters in Chinese and Japanese anime community. Since those are key demographics for spending on the game the devs end up appeasing them and we end up with supposedly indigenous-inspired characters that are barely tan. It is what it is, unfortunately

Liyue and Inazuman characters didn't look Asian either. They had white skin, huge multicolored eyes, blonde/green/pink/caramel colored hair, and used the exact same models the Mondstadt characters used. :) Funny that people are throwing their tantrums just now.
Genshin does not care about representation (and they have never promised accurate representation), they're just take inspiration from different cultures.
They went on that route and hardly failed to execute. Just repeatedly used what's on their previous archives instead of working on something distinct. Nice try, though! 🤣
Stuff like _this_ is what irks me. The research that the devs do on each of these different cultures and regions and successfully implementing said inspiration into the game while world-building on their own creation *IS* representation. If representation boiled everything down to skin color, then all of these characters could be toned up to the max while all the cultural elements of the game could be completely removed and y’all would call it “representation.” Fictional medias have been taking inspiration from cultural mediums all the fucking time as a means of world-building and plot-writing. This shouldn’t be a big deal as it is.
The longer this issue gets discussed the more I become convinced that whoever above the creative team is in charge in finalizing everything is interfering with the designers. It's been noted that these designs and Sumeru's too look naturally better when the characters have darker skin, plus in Sumeru they showed they can incorporate it but it was only NPCs and mobs, which would also make sense if it's a higher up issue because at this point is it really a coincidence that the only characters with substantial melanin are also the only ones they can't make money off of? Not to mention with the design aspect (see above) i highly doubt they'd make all these designs that are clearly meant for darker skin only to go "LMAO but we're not actually gonna give them melanin" like no that would just be really stupid tbh. I haven't spent any money this patch and am trying to refrain as long as possible, but I do wonder how much it'll help realistically, unless the turnout for this financial boycott going on is large enough and/or people's frustrations reach as far up the ladder as they need to go.
It's likely not gonna help realistically. The west doesn't generate enough revenue. These designs are intentional business decisions to sell to the east, notably CN and JP. The reception has been quite positive over there. You need bigger territories to agree for real changes to occur in the game. If there was real outrage about this issue overseas, most notably CN, then Hoyo would have paid attention long ago. The free 10 pull we just got is evidence enough.
Though, I wish they would share more diversity with their skin tones, especially when they taking from a real cultures. But I always know they're going to be talented fans who will make incredible fan ocs that will! They fix mountain shaper and Moon carver.
Kinich gives me this vibe that I can only describe as “Xiao, with a dash of Alhaitham”. Based on the description of him being essentially a poacher or hitman, as well as pragmatic, combined with the “logical and devoted to his job but overall not a bad guy in the least and surprisingly chill” impression… I'm working with the theory that he takes on these jobs because he grew up basically broke (with or without family) and is simply good at fighting. That, or was taken in by somebody who raised him to hunt “saurions” (Genshin Pokemon)
.....anyway, he seems to combine a claymore with speed, and I'm a speed-based playstyle who likes dendro and anemo (and have a weird preference for sword/polearm/claymore users) so. Pulling for this guy.
One design gripe: How does he not trip over those sleeves??? THAT is impractical if you're gonna be running around fighting things for a living. One misstep and you'll go falling to the ground, at best.

I’m not pulling for any of these three and definitely staying F2P from now on. I’m betting we will probably receive Kachina for free since she’s likely the first new 4* of the region, which is nice.
I’m going to be saving for Xilonen bc I love a good geo character and she’s gorgeous! I wish everyone had more melanin, but unless a miracle happens and Hoyo grew a conscience, I’m guessing these are the designs we’ll be stuck with. It’ll actually be very nice to have a break and have extremely skippable banners moving forward. If they reveal a hot pyro dragon later, I’ll hopefully have the primo funds for them too!
It's unfortunate that the new characters aren't a bit darker ( they don't need to be super super dark to somewhat appease the eastern(chinese) audience) I mean, look at Kaeya for goodness sake.) But I hope none of the voice actors are penalized for giving their opinions. All the love and support CYYU!!

Yeah, unfortunately Hoyo will likely not do anything, so it’s up to the fan-artists to do the actual work.
Im glad that they don't listen because the darker they look the harder is to make them natural to the rest of the game art style

Which is exactly WHY what they're doing is even WORSE. They COULD make more diversity and make it look good. They COULD make it fit into Genshin's aesthetic. They just don't because they wanna cater to china and japan and korea and it's f*cked up colorist beauty standards to have more money and in the meantime tehy are f*cking over not only western people, but also middle easterns, south asians, just asians in general because asians are in fact people of colour, the black community and the indigenous people or america. It is just a punch to the gut all around once again just like in sumeru.
Only difference is, in Sumeru they had the excuse of countries like Turkey, where they could pull the more pale skin aspect from. But in Natlan they don't have that, so the excuse they go for instead is making it more modern to have the excuse of oh nowadays any sort of people live there so ofc they're gonna be more pale!

The characters are fine, if the radicals protest it and force them to change them then I likely won’t buy any wishes for them, as it’s not their original characters. Just products of derangement syndrome that can only look at things racially, we can’t let people who think like that win.

Tbh, I see 'killer' in Kinich's eyes. Those eyes are INTENSE. I can definitely see him locking onto a target like a deadbolt. His eyes remind me of Itona Horibe from Assassination Classroom.

after looking at leaks (which I will not spoil anything about here) I gotta say I'm getting all 3 and maybe 1 of the weapons.

I waiting to see what they are like personality wise. I also am waiting to see the weapon types for most of them. I am interested in Kinich, Ororon, and Xilonen, we'll have to see what they are like in game. The avatars and splash art always looks different compared to the in-game models, so this doesn't surprise me.

Nah it’s unfortunate that they can’t give any Melanin to these characters. The design is great but without the darker skin, it just feels, shallow. Like a person cosplaying as someone of that culture rather than someone OF that culture. If they don’t make changes im just modding my game because its ridiculous how we have to beg and start hashtags for them to make characters slightly more darker skinned

Regarding the skin issue, I'm glad everyone is speaking up and saying something about it, but I'm still planning to play to the end. I really enjoy it. I do want to support everyone, but on the other hand, this is one of the few games I do enjoy to wind the day down with. And to support people is asking me to sacrifice that. And if I do do that, I won't be supporting them 100% because I would want to play a hoyo game by that point.
So I choose to play the game, and hope hoyo hears you guys out. I would love darker skinned characters, and I would love to give my support, but I'm also not going to sacrifice the little things that I enjoy for the same of others.
And for that, I'm sorry.
You shouldn't be sorry for your choice as they are your choices. If anyone ever says otherwise and makes you feel guilty then no matter what side they are they're bad and shouldn't be listened too

i wonder if cyyu is aware that the problem isn't just genshin, but hoyoverse in general. Hsr took inspiration from 1920s jazz culture which was kickstarted by many black musicians, yet all penacony cast is white. Don't even get me started on the fact that the only dark skinned character, Arlan, has skill names like "Shackle breaker" and "Swift harvest".

Cy Yu I appreciate you always keeping it real because I'm not even gonna lie it feels like this was culture appropriation and a poor attempt of showing indigenous like things especially for not only indigenous but this Land was also supposed to cover Africa and it just feels like they slapped a bunch of random things on some characters and feathers and then call them indigenous and just randomly slapped African things onto these characters without making them darker and I just thought that was disrespectful I'm not even gonna lie it's not even just the lack of skin tone that's obviously the problem here but it's also the names of the deities that should not be used in the first place I feel like its disrespect for how they tried to change some of the names when they really shouldn't be changed nor used but my biggest problem that I'm also gonna have when this region comes out is no matter how you look at it they will not have any indigenous food they're like straight up, I think it will literally all be Chinese food or something like that know actual indigenous food, no things that they would actually eat at that time, and it's just like it all feels like, it's just there for show, and I'm not liking that, meanwhile, all of the other Nations show the culture, the food the people except for sumeru as well I'm gonna have to give these designs a 6/10 because while they're still pretty, I still feel like they could have kept the flow and also kept the design a little bit as well of what a person that actually dresses like that would have been like but I don't know :/ seeing people dog pile poc for not being happy and calling them, names was such an unfriendly atmosphere in this community, and I'm just like, yeah, I was time for me to pack up I hope everyone enjoys the game, but I'm no longer playing this game soon I still like watching people play it, but I'm not playing it anymore for now

As a Xiao-turned-Cyno main, Kinich is definitely the one that sparks my interest most. The other two are cute, I love all their designs, but as has been said many times since their first looks, their palettes could do with a darker skin tone. It would make them stand out more. That said, I am pulling for Kinich. I have a guarantee, 20 pity, and at least 6 weeks to gather more wishes. I won't be spending until these issues are fixed.

The way artists in the Genshin fandom have been making Hoyo's designs look so much better with their art edits and fanart. I just wish their designs were the real designs.

About 4 days ago the cc Dish tweeted about how she loved the fan art and in that thread she included some of the art she loved so I'd definitely recommend checking that tweet out to see some of the awesome artwork people have created that in my opinion, vastly improve the Natlan character designs and make them far more representative of the people and culture they're meant to be based on. 😊
- The artistry and graffiti painted along the ridges and mountainous ranges is a call to the importance of art and expression in Latin and African cultures
- The ballgame played in the teaser is a homage to the Mesoamerican ballgame ōllamalīztli where the goa is to keep the ball in motion like how the Sun revolves around the Earth
- The vision capsules are designed in the shape of Tōnatiuh (Nahuatl for Sun) in reference to the significance of the sun in Mesoamerican religion as well as the Aztec Calendar
- Mualani’s emphasis on Sharks is a homage to the spiritual significance of Sharks in Hawaiian culture; Sharks are seen as symbols of strength, protection, and guidance, while also being the genesis of humans and possessing supernatural powers in the Hawaiian Mythos
- Kinich’s quadratic motifs are a slight acknowledgement to the style of Mayan tapestry, infused nicely with his more modern Latin fashion
- The volcano residing near the city is a nod to the geography of Teotihuacan and other Incan civilizations
- The presence of mining tools as weapons among the enemies may be unfortunate references to either the illegal Amazonian mining or the fact that Weat Africa (and Africa in general) is a popular mining locale for its abundance of valuable minerals like Diamond
- The appearance of Crystals protruding from the ground could possibly lean into West African culture and the spiritual significance of crystals used in their religion, medicinal uses, and societal structure
- The percussiveness being the core of the music. Sure, trumpets aren’t inherently indigenous, but we got Mariachis
*THAT* is representation. Hoyo could’ve chosen some bland ass character designs non-reminiscent of anything, draw vague aspects of modern Latin cultur, and call it a day. But they didn’t. That is what’s called _respect._ Those artist edits of the existing characters drawn over to be darker isn’t “fixing” anything. That’s just tailor-making the character to be what YOU think is suitable, which is arguably more disrespectful and is exactly what the “Boycott Hoyoverse” protocol says what *not to do.* Don’t enlist until you know what war you’re fighting, especially if the “victims” of the war don’t care.
@@reyesle6709 For someone that apparently appreciates the 'possible' hints and 'small hints' towards the cultures that were borrowed by Hoyoverse to create Natlan's world, lore and designs, you seem very aggressively against representing the appearance of the people who's cultures you are noticing. If you have an issue with seeing deeper complections and melanin, you really didn't need to shout so loud about it. So you're happy with ripping parts of someone's culture but not using how they look? Why? Maybe unpack that and you can take the time to do that. There's nothing 'bland' about enriching a game with gorgeous deep skin tones that accurately reflect the cultures being portrayed. Furthermore some designs could be improved and be less 'gacha game' oversexualised and still be stunning but be more fitting for the culture they're based on. You can look at the artwork yourself to see that. Furthermore having a conquistador design isn't something that is a positive representation of the culture that was harmed by conquistadors but you seem like the person who would love that.
Also talk about speaking over those actually involved and hurt by this issue. You say that people aren't bothered than I urge you to check out the peitition that has nearly 70,000 signatures and personal testamonies from people who have been hurt and do what positive changes to be made. There are also many people online including voice actors for Genshin who have openly talked about how Hoyoverse's Natlan designs are a bad decision and should be rectified. So my guy, pls just look online and you'll see for yourself. Anyway, you seem like you love some cultural appropriation so much so you made a whole essay justifying it. Maybe instead of adamantly standing against positive change, try and listen and uplift those negatively affected by it. Just because you weren't hurt by it doesn't mean others weren't too.

I’m pretty passionate about this issue and the study of decisive concepts and culture representation in general, so if I came off as offensive, I’m sorry about that. Secondly, I didn’t think that I’d need to affirm my ethnicity in order to vocalize my stance on this, but here we go:
I am a mixed bilingual Black and Dominican that grew up in a historical Freedmen’s Town, and representation is the _one thing_ that I never received growing up in a gentrified environment. I had to learn this shit all on my own and it took a decade and a half until my city was able to acknowledge that having a Confederate obelisk in the middle of the plaza wasn’t the most inclusive thing. When I tried to fit in with Black social cliques, I get told “I’m not Black enough” or I have to show photo evidence of my family tree to confirm my Blackness. When I speak Spanish in a public space or when I get really excited about doing well in a Latin-centric project, I’m looked at like I’m some sort of exotic piece in a museum or I’m told to “stop flexing” cuz I know how to speak Spanish. God knows I know a thing or two about representation since I’m some of the only representation where I live at.
In terms of Melanin, Black is fucking awesome. My mom is blacker than I am, my sister is blacker than I am, my best friend is the blackest mothafucka I know. But there’s a difference between having variety in skin tone vs. having a black character for the sake of having a black character. Coloring over an existing character and calling it “fixed” is not representation. I’ve seen it done with the cast of Chainsaw Man, I’ve seen it done to Sailor Moon, I’ve seen it done to Saiki K., and I’ve seen it done to Knuckles the Echidna. _A. Fucking. Echidna._ Also when people call darker skin “ethereal” or “exotic,” that’s more of a gut punch than it is a compliment because it feels like we are being alienated (I know you didn’t do this and I respect you for that, it’s just I see a lot of other people do this and it irks me). This is especially true in this context since Mayans are quite a bit lighter than everyone tries to interpret them as, especially in a culture where you can be of Latin America and be pale as fuck or black as fuck.
In terms of speaking over people that are affected, the vast majority of the Latinos and even the indigenous people I’ve seen and discussed with are not majorly offended, even those that did vocalize the idea of darkening the cast. The African audience I can sympathize with because application of Ororon is questionable, but I highly doubt that _70,000_ Latinos and Africans were so appalled by this that they’re taking up legal arms with a video game country across the globe. At its core, Genshin is not a game that is meant to represent, it is meant to REFERENCE, and fictional pieces of media have utilized cultural mediums to world build and character build all the time and they make profit from it. Like _Books._ If I want positive change then I’ll teach the coming generation in my city about the West African and Mesoamerican civilizations myself. If I want to see representation in a video game, I’ll play street fighter. Latin American culture is not principally defined by skin color; it’s through our music, our food, our visual art, our religion, and everything else in between. Hoyo never promised us anything of the sort, so I’m not gonna get angry.
Honestly I think it's hilarious that people think Hoyo will care about the skin tone thing. They didn't even give the Asian country characters a different skin tone, you think they 're gonna do something for people in another country? Sumeru was the middle east and all the forest people were white. Idk why people are surprised or even talking about it lol.
We know Hoyo doesn’t care. They’ve proven that over and over again. However, everything they had released of Natlan previously per the webcomic, in game NPCs, and the Teyvat trailer implied there would be more dark skinned characters in Natlan. I expected there to be light characters, but hadn’t expect that only 1 out of 9 new characters would be brown. It was both surprising and unsurprising at the same time and it’s shitty. I hope they lose profits from this, but I imagine they won’t change unless the CN community were to rise up and force their hand too. Which I don’t expect to happen… but still will refuse to pay them a dime moving forward.
i'm going for Kinich and will c6 him over a few reruns. Willing to spend any amount on him and also on Olorun and any other male characters.

I saw clips of their animation and gameplay and Kachina's looks fun
Characters do look good, cute and the gimmicks are interesting. I also like the Pokémon aesthetic.
The pacific island in me does kinda want Mulani. However, I still don’t agree with a majority of things the Genshin team is doing.
Until I am at least decently satisfied with their game state like I am with their other games, they aren’t seeing a penny from me.
Also even tho I personally believe in giving artistic freedom, I do still hold a lot of criticisms for their lack in properly representing their cultural inspirations in their characters. If you’re gonna go the distance with rep, may as well go all the way and make the people of said inspiration happy with representation.

As a Jabao Dominican myself, I am 100% sniping for Kinich. As for my stance on this whole ordeal, I think that the idea of “representation = skin color” is kind of the more ignorant statement. Culture down in Latin America is based on food, music, artistry, and religion among other many different facets… not the color of skin. This is implemented through the artistry and graffiti on the ridges and mountains, the Tōnatiuh (Nahuatl for sun) design paying homage to the Aztec calendar, the ballgame in the teaser being reminiscent of the Mesoamerican sport ōllamalīztli, and of course the percussiveness of the music.
In terms of Mualani and Pacific Islander culture, I think the emphasis on shark aesthetics was a real nice touch as sharks in Hawaii are considered symbols of strength, protection, and guidance; the associated mythos with sharks in Hawaii is that they’re the genesis of humans, figures of worship, and that they possessed supernatural powers. *THAT* is representation. Nothing official about Natlan has even marinated, so I wanna see where we go from here positively.

I was really interested in Kinich when I first saw him but, tbh, Ajaw actually turns me off. Guess I'll have to see what they're like in game but the quirky pixelated sidekick isn't working for me. I was never interested in pulling on either Kachina or Mualani and that hasn't changed. I was actually surprised that I felt drawn to Mavuika because I had thought I wouldn't be but she seems really cool. And I'm super interested in seeing more of Ororon, both because he looks cool and I want to know why he's hanging out with Capitano.

Only one I’m saving my primos for is Kinich because he just looks like a Minecraft gamer. But I’m not gonna spend anymore on Genshin or any Hoyo games for the lack of skin tone diversity in a region where it really mattered (and Sumeru), I’m still disappointed.

Hot take: skin color is such a tokenism issue. There is nothing more important to a culture than its own language and writing system, and I think there is nothing more "whitewashing" than using English (and Spanish), the very language whose speaker enslaved and massacred the indigenous people, to tell their stories. Moreover, none of the countries/regions that the game took inspiration from actually speak English. I’m not saying this to cause controversy or problems I just want to shed light on some things I’ve seen people talk about and some not understand or realize. Anything I am about to say should not be taken as meaningfully disrespectful OR seen in an ill intent. But moving on,
While I agree it would be great to see a more diverse group especially with skin color, people are looking at this whole situation wrong. While yes Hoyo is using inspiration from Latin and African cultures people keep using the word and wording of “Representation”. This game has never had representation but merely inspiration while it is seen more heavily in Liyue and Inazuma that does not mean that everything in those regions has to be exactly like the culture they are pulling from. How I like to put it is if an artist takes inspiration from a painting do they have to represent the entirety of the painting they are referencing? This is a game and fantasy game. if a writer was to make a story about a fantasy world BUT it’s based in let’s say Mexico you would expect Mexican culture and people with a bit of a twist maybe (I’m talking fantasy twist) that is when I think it is appropriate to truly call misrepresentations wrong and disrespectful. But this has never been a game of representation, it’s a game of reference. While I’m not downplaying the feeling of those who do find it disrespectful I think the reasons behind the decision or hate or not truly just reasons. This is not me defending Hoyo or their actions I just want to make sure people know full evidence and facts before coming to a complete conclusion especially if on the fence.

All the VA's that have been outspoken about this are still lending their talents to the game and will probably still promote all of Hoyo's projects in full when this dies down, because money talks first. This all feels so performative. Ironic that they're criticizing Hoyo for caring the most about the same thing, money. The designs of these characters are what they are so they can be sold in the east. The west doesn't generate nearly as much revenue as other territories, so you're not gonna see designs catered to anything people here are asking for.

So far if I’m honest I haven’t been this uninterested in genshin ever and I’ve been around since 1.0 I don’t like any of the three we saw shown off the kits been leaked and I kinda hate it. I also don’t like the who is to be assumed as the pyro archon the hair n eyes are great but the outfit is out of place she looks like a nascar driver. Also the dendro dude having a pixilated companion is just out of place which again not a fan. So far what they’ve shown contradicts the lore from the manga and the word of in game characters. Also just personal expectations. I will still play and hope it is better than I think. I also think they need to balance the amount of male to female and vision type/weapon types example more than one pyro sword and one hydro claymore user. The designs of most of the other characters are fine but I will say I’d like characters outfits to not reflect the vision so much still.

A question what is the rebuttal to the point that Genshin Impact is fiction, it is not reality and the developers have every right in a fictional medium to pick, choose warp and change the real world influences of their fictional medium as they see fit? There is no evidence of Da Wei and his minions at Mihoyo of intending to be malicious or hurtful. And someone else here raised a good point. Put money where the mouth is. Don't gatcha for the new characters or move onto other games. Futile attempts to browbeat the developer, especially now that they all but threw down the gauntlet by releasing the drip marketing will lead to nothing.
The rebuttal is easy: it’s pretty telling if you make a fantasy world that only has white people in it. Is it your right as a creator? Sure. Does that make you immune to criticism? No way. The idea that a fantasy world is all white is uh…really yikes.

with all the drama of skin color, as a person who is naturally brown skin I just tend to look past the skin tone of charachters lately as with all the force multicultarlism in other video games I slowly lost care about the skin tone and more about three things the Story, personality and skills that is what I am focused on that will be what I will care about the most. when Sumeru came out I ask as a muslim person who have seen islamic refence in Sumeru did not feel bothered and honestly not once has I actually thought about skin color of the charachters I mostly keep thinking about are cool charachters and the story that made cry in my bed

The protest is just stupid. This is a work of fantasy, it is a fictional world. A fictional world can take inspiration from the Real World without being 1 to 1 on representation. Would I prefer some darker skin tones? Yes. But i'm not gonna REEEE and CRY about it like so many are, or worse DEMAND Hoyo change the designs. That's not going to work. It makes the protestors look childish and immature. "I don't like this design so I'm gonna DEMAND that Hoyo change it!" It's a childish reaction. Now, a respectful petition to change the designs would go over a lot better. Come from a place of respect and communication, rather than making DEMANDS. But in the end Genshin is Hoyo's creation. A world of their making and it is their right to design it how they see fit.
