Having an operating pull start on your ATV is a great safety backup and can save you from being stranded incase the electric start isn't working. But, the pull starter assembly takes a lot of abuse and can get damaged causing it to not work correctly. In this video Charles shows how to rebuild the pull starter assembly and replace the recoil spring on a Polaris Sportsman 500, but this process will be similar for all Polaris ATV models with pull starts.

Thanks. Just what I needed to see the orientation of the replacement parts. 👍
Thanks. Exactly what I needed. You guys have the best stuff.

So helpful!! Thanks!
Great video! Thank you!
Thanks guy
What are the two bigger plugs in the cover for? Looks like oil filler and drainage
For small spring, longer leg goes into hole on plastic.
The bolt in mine currently is not the correct size. At some point, someone worked on it and put it back together completely incorrect. Opened it up and there were parts laying all over the bottom of the case. My question is what is the bolt length and pattern for the center 10mm bolt holding everything in place?
Unfortunately this bolt is no longer available so we can't find much information on it or go grab one and measure it. But I do believe the bolt length is around 19mm.
that is a very clean bike compared to mine
How important do you think those locating holes are in the friction plate? The cheap amazon one I got doesnt have them and the cord wont recoil if I tighten that bolt down

Step one: Throw ATV in garbage. Step two: Buy dirtbike with kickstarter
Mostly all ATVs have electric start
