6:43-6:55 I actually think How I Learned to Fly is up there with I Live in Your Basement in terms of being completely different from the rest of the franchise and in terms of quality that even older audiences can enjoy.

I always loved How I learned to fly. It wasn’t necessary scary, but it was genuinely one of the most thought provoking goosebumps books I’ve ever read and is actually one of my favorites

While a bunch of weird stuff happened in Legend of the Lost Legend, none of it mattered anyway since not only did they turn out to be fake as part of some kind of test, but the test was for a completely different artifact altogether and they had to explain and clarify what they were actually after.

I know the focus of this video was meant to be on the books of the original series that haven’t gotten reprinted but if we’re looking at the entirety of Goosebumps books that haven’t been reissued, there are a lot that arguably need to be put back in circulation. The Series 2000 books only have had two of its books reprinted (without the Series 2000 branding), the Give Yourself Goosebumps series has only one book that’s been reprinted, and the Tales to Give You Goosebumps hasn’t had any of its entries republished.
Minor correction, Series 2000 actually has 3 books that have been reprinted. I forgot about Attack of the Graveyard Ghouls.

I know this is an older video but "Welcome to Dead House," the first book in the series, is also notable for having a much darker tone compared to the later books. Stine explained that it was written around the time of the Fear Street series and so the tone of fear with a hint of comedy wasn't properly established yet.

The ones that were never reprinted or mad e in to episodes just made them become the ones that I was the most intrested in, they seemed like the weirder concepts. Like when I first saw monster blood 4 I thought that looks so weird I want it. And I was really surprised to see werewolf skin was made into an episode. One of tge best episodes to me as a kid

I've never read that much of R.L Stine's Goosebumps books, but I have read books from Paul Jennings who is a very popular children's author in Australia. Such classics include "Unreal!" "Unbelievable!" "The Paw Thing" and "The Cabbage Patch Fib" and to me, his books are kinda like the Australian counterpart to Goosebumps.
Seriously, the similarities are rather uncanny (which is, in fact, the title of another one of his books).
Don't know if anyone here is familiar with this guy, but even then, I just wanted to share a fact with you all.

Great Video! It's always fun hearing someone talk about Goosebumps. I have the Lost Legend, but I still haven't read it. I got it through the Retro Tin Collection 4 or 3 years ago, but the book looked so boring.
A really obscure Goosebumps line is Triple Header. It's the shortest Goosebumps series, with only 2 books. I somehow managed to find the 2nd book.

I think there are some great Series 2000’s books. It started really strong with Cry of the Cat, Bride, and Creature Teacher, but then… fell off considerably. I think that can be said for most Goosebumps series, though.

@@rafaelbrites3607 The books were actually really good. While there are some duds, we still got good ones. I haven't read all of them (just like how I haven't read all of the original books yet).

@@makala3468 The Invasion of the Body Squeezers two parter was really good. Return to Horrorland (while I haven't finished it), was cool, it had cameos and connections to the other books like Monster Blood 2 and Bad Hare Day, the dentist office scene was very gruesome and bloody, especially for a Horrorland attraction. Earth Geeks Must Go (a book I did read), had an interesting concept of waking up on an alien planet with no memory. Jekyll and Heidi seems generic from my research but is surprisingly depressing with the main character's parents dying in a car accident before the story and another character accidentally squeezing her pet hamster to death while she was having a mental breakdown. The Mummy Walks is batshit insane political espionage on the level of an Indiana Jones movie, Slappy's Nightmare has Slappy as the main character trying to save himself, Horrors of the Black Ring (I also read) had one of the batshit and intense scenes in any media of I've ever read/scene which was the scene where the carnival began, I have yet to see an online source that properly and accurately describes or summarizes what happened during that, it should've been the climax rather than the first quarter. Headless Halloween seems particularly dark since the main character is a bully who dies in the middle and becomes a ghost (there's also a mention of beer in a fridge). I read Are You Terrified Yet which is basically You Can't Scare Me with a ridiculous intro involving the main character saving a woman's baby alone in a car about to crash, and since the book only emphasized the spider scene on the cover I didn't expect an intense zombie funeral home scene. That book is also notable for not having any supernatural elements but my other personal favorite element that isn't mentioned is the subversion of the "if this was a prank, then who was that" trope by revealing at the end to be a double prank that the main character was in on (that's what the "zombies" really were).

Huh. Never knew 'Legend of the Lost Legend' was a ~rare~ book. The company responsible for printing the books in my country used to have copies of the 90s print avalaible pretty regularly. They recently started selling the 2010 Classics run. Although they seem to have replaced the 90s original versions wih the original Classics versions, which is a shame for people who want to collect the original books.

  • @troin3925

When I write my what-if film adaptation rewrite fanfics of each Goosebumps book, I’ve had the idea of each Monster Blood book post 2 (only because of how iconic Cuddles the Hamster is in the franchise), being about a different monster blood from different monsters each with different colors, powers and effects (in my version, the original Monster Blood is literally blood from a monster rather than a silly putty knock-off cursed by a witch, both because it’s such a cool idea as well as to fix the plot holes of the sequels). Monster Blood 3 would instead be about a different colored Monster Blood that functions like an addictive parasite that increases the intelligence of its host. In fact, it makes the host so intelligent that they’re able to create advanced technology and entirely new chemicals just from simple resources, as well as give psychic powers the more intelligent they get. I would completely rewrite Evan’s cousin Kermit to be more likeable (so he’s not like Tara from The Cuckoo Clock of Doom but with Jimmy Neutron levels of intelligence, he’s instead more of a scaredy-cat with low self esteem), and relatable (no one in real life has a boy genius relative, Kermit being a boy genius is a new, unexpected thing that occurs by the beginning of the story). I would take inspiration from The TommyKnockers (anomalous objects that increases intelligence to the point of creating advanced technology out of simple materials. I’m also using that as an excuse to explain away the made up words R. L. Stine used for the chemical technobabble), and The Lawnmower Man (an intelligent person gaining powers and a god complex). It would also be about Kermit learning to accept himself for the person that he _is_ rather than who he _wants_ to be, so it also has a sweet moral.

After looking through this matter, I think I have an answer and it's kind of a boring one. The 2000's reprints weren't in order, they did some early ones later one. They went in a rough order but not strictly. Notably, Return of the Mummy wasn't reprinted until 2007. So it's likely they were gonna go do those and just held them off. I get doing this for the last 3 in the original series since they were late and thus not as important but it makes little sense for Legend and Phantom of the Auditorium.
The Classic line started in 2008 and the 2000's line ended in 2007. I think they were just about to finish them up when the plug was pulled in favor of the Classic reprints. I think that's it, it didn't have much to do with the content, they just gut unlucky. They did get ebooks in 2018 since they are willing to bring them out somewhere.
The funny thing with Legend being in one of the retro tins is that it claims to have some of the highest selling but I highly doubt Legend was a hot seller.
The Blogger Beware slam was kinda refreshing lol. Also, I like to call these The Unloved.
