#katiecolson #booktube #bestbooks2023 #worstbooks2023 - Zábava
Just wanted you to know I'm currently reading Rouge by Mona Awad & it's going on my worst books of 2023. You were right! I swear sometimes Katie is the only one who has taste.
I hated it so much I was so sad :(
Multiple Fourth Wing girlies have abandoned ship on the series or won’t even recommend it anymore because of Iron Flame 😂
Right iron flame was a draaaag. It started reading like a YA with an annoying fmc
Really?! I just jumped on the 4th wing wagon, maybe I’ll skip the last 😫
and good for them
The pants thing - so accurate. I wasn't curious about Divine Rivals before....but now I am. Maeve fly not being on there blew my mind. I don't understand the how to sell a haunted house hate! #TeamPupkin! 🏆🏆
I adored The Seven Year Slip and Love Theoretically!! They're both going on my best of the year list 🎉
i gave none of this is true 5 stars & it’s in my best of 2023 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
THANK YOU!!!! I saw your video yesterday and started listening to Any Man today and now I'm done. It's not the genre I usually read/listen to but WOW....I cried so much...This is a book that will stay with my for a long time! So thank you again
I loved The Writing Retreat too, I just never wanted to put it down. I love a good over the top out of control thriller.
Great list! 🏆
The Adventures of Amina Al Sirafi is AMAZING
🏆why did this video make me so emotional?!?!😭❤️ I am not crying because I am so grateful to be a follower of yours at all. Of course not. Ughhhh I love you! ❤️
what?! for real?? this is the most unexpected and sweetest comment I feel like i've ever received. Thank you!
🏆 I am sad not read much in 2023 has been a very BAD year. I will and do better in 2024. Thank you Katie
definitely have filmed pantsless. i feel so seen rn
🏆😌
I agree The Writing Retreat will definitely be in my top 10 favorites of the year! I’m obsessed with it 😍 I also recently just read Yellowface and it was also be in my top 10 probably, I loved it!!! 💛 (I also loved Woman in Me, it was definitely *that* nonfiction book of the year for me)
for some reason you look really relaxed and chill here, I love it (though I love any version of Katie)
wow yeah okay, I haven't read any of these and I don't really want to either 😅 oh but Maeve Fly is a must read.
The 7 Year Slip is def getting on there. I hope Babel will be #1. I'm with you on Fourth Wing. 🏆
I looked up some of the 2023 candidates on Goodreads.. even checked a few out of the library and all of them were DNFs. Some people I know said books from the 80s and 90s had too many soap opera esque tropes.. but at least the books were enjoyable to read unlike a lot of books released nowadays that seem too safe
On a completely different note from everyone in this comment section probably... I'm here 10 minutes after finishing the book "The Romantic Agenda" which I only found because you recommended it and I just wanted to tell you how grateful I am for it!! I absolutely adored the book!! This book has made me sob so hard (as well as literally laugh out loud in some parts)?? I've never found a character I related to so much before Joy and just the ace representation and everything about this book made me feel so seen but also hopeful.... so yeah...
Thank you so much for making these amazing videos (and helping me find what's definitely going to be my new fav)!!!
This comment had me emotional on your behalf. I know that feeling SO well. And to find a character that’s relatable to you is a game changer. So happy to know you got that experience with the Romantic Agenda
🏆 I think Emily Wilde 🧚 is going to be a last minute entry into best of the year, everyone has been loving it and I think you would too Katie, it’s a great slow burn 🥇
Emily Wilde is my fav but I don't think Katie will love it because she usually doesn't like cozy or cozy-adacent books that much.
That book was a slog in the beginning but it really hooked me in the second half. I can't wait to read the second one.
"What do you mean. What do you mean?!" 😆 No but seriously, same!! Seems like everyone read the Britney memoir in like 3 hours! 🏆
My strongest reaction was to How to Sell a Haunted house. Hated it so much I DNF'd. I also agree with The Last Word and The Only One Left 🏆
As someone trying not to add anything to my library hold list until next year, this was not the best video for me to watch xD
I can't wait to see how the year shakes out though.
I think another big chunk of books that show up in favorites (but also least favorites and disappointing) lists are books that were favorites or hyped last year but people are just getting to. Similar to Babel, I think Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow will show up a lot, and Legends & Lattes. 🏆
🏆I love your videos! Had me LOLing on this one 😂
I still can't believe I only read 2 books in the Fantasy category. 😅 I voted for Hell Bent by default only because my most anticipated release hasn't come out yet.
Any Man is 100% my best book of the year thanks to you and Gabby! ❤️🔥
Aw! I am so freaking happy to hear that. Thank you for letting us push it on you, ha
That intro sent me 😂😂😂😂
ha! thank you!
i want Katie to read Iron Flame so bad just so i can watch her rant review on it. i didn’t even read Fourth Wing but i had a great time listening to her recap😂
I´m not YA reader anymore, but I randomly picked up Divine rivals and it´s REALLY good. Strong 4*.
🏆🏆🏆 Can’t get the smile off my face!!!
I hope to see Assistant to the Villain on a lot of people’s best books list! 🏆
omg I could NOT stand Maeve Fly I was soooo tired of the main character's thought process but I ATE UP the ending
I loved writing retreat 🥹
🏆 💗I completely agree with the iron flame being on worst and alive feebly! Daisy darker is what finally got me to start and then she came back with good bad girl?? Girl what’s going onnnn
Babel is less popular than yellowface because it's a dense historical fantasy and yellowface is page turning thriller. So I'm not really surprised there
Yes this year has been terrible and sad for me. I have read a few books. I have a stack that I want to read. I checked out some library books that I am excited about. I hope this video cheers me up. Yea I don't give a crap what Goodreads thinks about books that they think are good.
I read Maeve Fly and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
Knockemout series- it’s the name of the town they live in.
READ DIVINE RIVALS!! I didn’t know it was YA until the Goodreads Choice Awards came out, and I already read it twice by that point.
🏆 Would love Lucy Score’s book to make it. My fav series ever xx
Why was this list way more interesting than any Goodreads list or predictions?!? 😮😊
Wait I didn't realize you were so disappointed by Hell Bent! Oh no I am nervous for it now
You're not the only CZcamsr that gave Alone with You in the Ether five stars this year - but I've also seen hate, too. That's one that may appear on both lists! (It's on my best of the year, that's for sure - but I get that it isn't everyone's cup of tea.)
🏆❤❤❤ I hope you read Divine Rivals soon
🏆 hype alone, Fourth Wing will be on lists but I also think we’ll see Tom Lake and possibly Shark Heart on many.
🏆I'm shocked that Go As A River isn't on the list. My top book of the year.
🏆can't wait for you to review the actual best books of 2023 at the end of the year!
I genuinely think Happy Place is one of Emily Henry's best adult books lol I'm torn between it and People we Meet on Vacation for my favourite
Same! PWMOV was my favorite too, but Happy Place has overtaken it 💖
I'm a Book Lovers fan... but I did think Happy Place managed to be a strong book that wasn't just about the main 2 characters.
🏆🏆 Not Fourth Wing being 1 star for me but top of the list. Lol These are all really solid predictions!
I really thought I wouldn't like Divine Rivals but my best friend kept recommending it so I read it for her.. ended up giving it 5 stars
Fourth Wing was fun and entertaining. I enjoyed it despite its faults. But Iron Flame... I don't know if I can do 3 more books like it.
You know I need to catch up on reading when I havent even heard of some of these. im ashamed of mysellf... lol
Did I miss your Maeve Fly vlog..? Or is it not up yet 😢
I am sat
I’m so scared to read Fourth Wing, I think I will hate it, but I want to know what all the fuss is about!
I felt the same!! But I am enjoying it!
Please don't read it. It's going to cringe you to death. + The author is problematic and doesn't deserve support.
🏆A Day of Fallen Night probably won't make it onto the list, but it so should!!
I audiobook a bunch of fantasy and have listened to some really fun ones for the year...
Stupid question... is Booktube specifically just meaning the audiobook is on youtube free, or that people review books or audiobooks on youtube?
🏆🏆🏆 all day everyday my best book of 2023 was A Sinister Revenge haha close second was probably the Lovelight Farms books by BK Borison.
When fourth wing first came out and everyone I follow raved about it, I resisted reading it out of pure defiance. I would not be suckered into the hype. But over time any desire I had to read it is gone. I actually don’t care to read it. Haha it’s actually made picking other books to read so much easier. I don’t know if I’ll ever read it. Maybe if it’s on Libby and I’m bored one day haha
OMG YES TES YES! A Sinister Revenge is for SURE going on my favorites of the year.
I’m so freaking happy to hear someone else that deep into the series
I first heard about the series from Katie is Reading and gave it a go at the start of this year. It hooked me so hard! I just love it, the banter ❤️😳👌🏼😍☠️
I want it to have the happiest of endings but I also NEVER want the series to end haha
I've read 36 books published or reprinted in 2023 at the time of posting this, and by the end of the year, it'll be closer to 40, 41. As of now, I've had "only" five 5 star reads, and five 4.5 reads. A great top ten, but the bottom half of my 2023 reads are mostly garbage. It's not been an amazing year, no.
Wait, isn't T. Kingfisher the biggest hyped girly of the year ? 🤔
Wasn't that last year when everyone was gushing about Nettle and Bone? She just won the Hugo for that so I'm guessing more people will put it on their tbr lists for next year.
A Wizards Guide to Defensive Baking is a great T Kingfisher for Christmas. Sure, there's murder, but there's also a sourdough minion and grumpy sentient gingerbread men.
@nanimaonovi2528 no single comment has ever made me want to read a book more!!
Me watching it while I haven't read a single book since june lol
🏆 well done
🏆 better than the movies I know came out in 2021 but I saw a lot of people reading this yes including me and really enjoyed it. Also they both hate each other was so good.
As a Bunny and an Any Man girlie, you need to pick up Normal Women by Ainslie Hogarth. It’s the Barbie movie, but make it mommy horror.
24:39 I ORDERED IT!!!😳 I'LL READ IT!!!
I KNEW YOU WOULD LOVE MAEVE FLY!
Adventures of Amina Al Sarafi is my #2 book of the year and was a high 5⭐ def recommend!!!🏆
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but happy PLEASE was one of my favorite books of the year! I know a lot of people didn’t like it because it was kind of a downer book, but I honestly found it really relatable. I don’t know, peoples reviews made me feel like all y’all had really stable home lives growing up, and didn’t have to learn in adulthood how to have healthy relationships, so maybe it wasn’t relatable to everyone, but as someone who didn’t have that, it was nice to read something so relatable.
Ironically, Happy Place is Emily Henry's second highest rated book. Only Book Lovers is higher at 4.16 🏆
I hated “None of this is true” sadly. I really don’t understand the hype
Me toooo
I agree that Fourth Wing will be on the best books. I personally love that book and Iron Flame. I also understand why either one could be on the worst books. Lots of plot holes and the writing is questionable but I loved them! So much fun!!! I rarely read fantasy, don't like smutty books, prefer less plot holes but those dragons!!! It was fun to get so lost in a book world like that one. I'm invested and can't wait for the next book. 😁
The Last Word was objectively not a good book... but god it was ridiculously fun to read
Please, read Divine Rivals! I need to find someone who also hates this book!
fourth wing slander let me get popcorn cause my god it was bad
🏆
Two 2023 releases that I don’t hear enough people talking about are Dykette and Old Enough (it could be because they’re gay lmao)
🏆 🏆 🏆
Have you read Dojakai yet? July 12, 2023 launch
I'm sorry. I'm a little confused. Is there an actual list of Booktube's best books of the year somewhere or are these compilations done by individual booktubers based on their own calculations and outreach? When I saw your video and looked for last year's list, I don't think I found one definitive list for 2022.
hahaha not me here DNFing Fourth Wing and just want 2023 to be over so I can stop see it everywhere
Hello
Great 🏆
2023 was such a mediocre year! I feel like booktok is definitely influencing the best books a lot and so many of them are just meh and hyped for no reason. It is going to be interesting to see how the best books work out this year.
I haven't read the writing retreat yet but the options on it are all over the place which makes me want to read it more 🏆

Any man by amber tamblyn isnt even available where i am. (The netherlands) Might be why ratings are low.
Yellowface is general fictional and much shorter than Babel and Way more accessible. I love everything by Abbly Jiminez and I'm starting to see her more frequently on booktube. Iron Flame is definitely one of the biggest disappointments I've seen so far.
I hated Fourth Wing so much I'm actually pissed it's so hyped. I literally unfollowed everyone who rated it a five star, cos how am I to trust their taste after that. I'm sorry, but I just can't do it.
It’s become my new litmus test for creators on BookTube and BookTok, so in that sense it’s been very helpful.
Oh no 🙈.... I'm either really not interested in these or they were extremely meh for me (Yellowface was a 2.5*...sorry...😅) However... I'm one of these people in the comments saying that Amina Al-Sirafi was such a fun romp of a time!! 😂👌 I do kinda wana read the writing retreat as well! but I feel like I'm 1000% not gonna identify with people's best books of the year videos this year 😂😂🏆
🏆❤
Don't burn me at the stake but Iron Flame was way better than Fourth Wing 🙃.
The seven year slip was ok very predictable. I dont understand the crazy hype.
🏆🫶🏼
I really hope In Memoriam by Alice Winn makes it onto people's best list. I'm not sure how many people have read it, but everyone who has absolutely loved it.
I can see tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow showing face again
