When I was a young man (I'm now middle-aged), Texas A&M was #6 in the country one year and were led by a linebacker named Dat Nguyen. Their offense didn't show up for the first three quarters against Texas and they fell behind 23-7. Then all of a sudden they stormed back and went ahead 24-23 late... only to have Texas mount a last-ditch drive and kick a field goal on the final play to secure a 26-24 upset win.
I look forward to the resumption of the rivalry.

    Overhyped/Overrated Team List:
    1) Miami - talked about as much as a top 15 team; results on the field of (5-7, 7-6) with a loss the GT in video game fashion. Nobody wants to hear anything about Miami until they produce on the field, and by produce I mean 10-2 or better with the amount of talk they get in hype/recruiting. The "new" Texas A&M.
    2) USC - no Lincoln Riley never has or will have a defense, 5 losses for a team that gets top 10-15 media attention. Everyone saw the writing on the wall week 1 when they gave up 400 yards of offense to SDSU.
    3) Notre Dame - Talked about as if they are a top 10 team who should be competing for national championships. Ranked inside the top 15 the past two years and has finished outside in both final CFP rankings with a notable loss to Marshall; of the past 15 years they have finished lower then pre-season ranking 10 of the 15 times. 2-5 Against AP top 10 opponents in the past 5 years. Again if you say they are properly rated, then how do you entertain this idea of ND going undefeated in the regular season?
    4) Oregon - Lots of hype and pre-season rankings, talked about as if they are top 5 in the country --- for a team whose only notable win was at Ohio State a few years ago. Lanning can recruit, he can make hype videos, but can he live up to it? Ask DeBeor and Washington, where they were favored both times and lost. Nothing less then a big 10 championship, multiple playoffs wins should be expected. Again this team is ranked ABOVE Bama, Michigan, Penn State, and Ole Miss; anything less then those teams IS a failure.
    Falling Off The List:
    1) Texas A&M - with Jimbo gone, the crazy expectations and rankings have simmered. They fall back to the C/B tier program they once were with the hire of Elko

Hmmmm…….interesting. So, what fanbase do you know of that doesn’t get excited about their team? What “supposedly prestigious” program hasn’t had “years of nothing”? Before last season, Michigan went 26 seasons without a title. Texas is going on 20 seasons, Alabama went 17 years without a championship. Georgia went 41 years before their 2021 title! National media members, writers and analysts asking…”what type of team will ND have this year?” is hype?
Who are you a fan of? I bet you won’t even answer that question….and if so, you probably won’t be honest. It’s been 10 years since OSU’s last title. Brian Day was GIFTED a loaded roster and has done nothing! It took a missed field goal, a dropped int and a total “brain fart/10 man last second play” for OSU to win that game against ND with a 2nd year HC. OSU has the best roster money can buy this year (20+million in NIL money!) …THEY get “all the hype” !
Since 2010, Oregon has been to the same number of national championship games as ND (once Oregon even had the damn Heisman winner!) and STILL got boat raced…! That program has been the same since and people are in LOVE with the Ducks this year and …“they might win the B10”! For the last 10 years, Michigan’s claim to fame(before this last season) was beating OSU!
Harbaugh was a fart away from being fired TWICE during his time at Michigan. Had it not been for his wins against “Born on 3rd base” Day’s teams, he would’ve been! Franklin is the worst in game coach in the B10 and hovers around 8-10 wins but he and PSU get a pass. Sark (NEVER won more than 9 games until this year!) He and Kiffin are basically the same guy. He (Kiffin) has never won more than 10 games but ONCE in 12 years as a head coach and those were at FAU!!! Heuppel has a good win against Alabama (IN Knoxville!) and he’s the 2nd coming and “they’re a playoff contender.” all because they play in the “mighty SEC!!!” Mario Cristobal can recruit his a$$ off….but he’s never done ANYTHING as a head coach…..but “the U is back!” And don’t get me started on Lincoln Riley! He had the best qb in college football for the last two years and you saw what happened when they came up to South Bend last season…..and ND didn’t have anyone at WR OR QB…! As far as I’M concerned, they STILL don’t until they prove it on the field. That said, ND is different from any other program….BECAUSE the “benchmark”, the standard IS championships, NOT conference titles or “rivalry wins”. They absolutely need to be more consistent, beat the teams they’re “supposed to” and win “big games”. If you don’t like ND or their fans now….you’re REALLY gonna hate us when we finally get over the hump! I am NO fan of the cowboys and I haven’t started seeing this B.S. comparison until recently. Dallas is a poorly run organization and they have blindly loyal fans. ND fans LOVE ND but we WILL “eat our own” if the product isn’t what we expect! Freeman FINALLY has a coaching staff AND admin that is going to give him what he needs to make a run. If he doesn’t produce he’s gonna hear about it. HELL, they’re doing it now and he was literally coaching with one hand tied behind his back! It’s tough to win at this level. You can like and dislike who you want. I just like to see honest and fair criticism not just opinions!

Miami is permanently relevant. They are either back or on their way back. That’s what happens when you dominate for nearly two decades, win 5 ships and field the most talented team ever (01). Funny thing is, their admin didn’t even try to start winning in football until 22, when they finally dedicated resources to the program. They hired a top 5 recruiter in country who has back to back top 7 classes. What happens in Miami is very relevant to CFB at this time. It’s just a matter if they win or not. And to prove I’m not just biased. USC, Nebraska are other programs that fit this narrative as well. They are permanently relevant.

ND fan here: We won't go undefeated. A&M will beat the Irish in the opening game and I think it could be a stomping. They have WAY too much talent on defense and we're coming in with an OL that has lost some great players. On the other side of the ball, Weigman is back and healthy and he's supposedly some kind of phenom while ND is likely going to be starting a QB recovering from a major injury who I guess was a big deal in the ACC (who cares?). I suppose he could make a few throws but I suspect he'll spend most of his time on his back in the grass, underneath a massive DE, and looking out the earhole of his helmet.

A&M has a new coaching staff. So I doubt they'll be firing on all cylinders in Game 1. However, we might not be, either, with a new QB and new OC. Both defenses should be good. So it's a tough game to predict.

Their top two RBs missed the game (Fletcher got hurt immediately) their starting wr transferred. On Defense the best DT and starting Safeties all opted out. They had to move their cbs to safety which they hadn’t done all season. Rutgers had I believe 21 of their 22 reg season starters for that game. If you think it doesn’t make a different you’re wrong. Vegas had them as favorites, once it was discovered all those players were out, they went into the games as dogs. They were literally underdogs for the game and it was a close game. Life Long Notre Dame fan that lives in Texas. Notre Dame's motto has always been Natty or Bust. Periodt. But this year is different. They are perfectly set-up to carve out their future. I think this year making the Play-offs is the goal. For once, the nay-sayers will be correct. This is the weakest schedule, I've seen in along time. But I don't wanna hear anything from Bama, OSU, and so on fans, considering their schools schedule div 2 oppenants every year and on purpose. Notre Dame when making this schedule didn't know some of these teams were going to be in decline. And other spots they have to fill in with what they can. I'd much rather have schedules like the early 90's with at least 8 ranked opponents. Anyway. The Schedule is weak. Texas A&M is the only game that scares me. Notre Dame has the better team. And I believe Mike Elko will have this program making strides in the next 3 years. If this game was anywhere else, or even later in the year, it wouldn't concern me. But it's at Night, Kyle Field, Crazy Rowdy Fans, and August HEAT. If Notre Dame can pull out the win, they will have to battle and put everything on the line. It will make this team grow so much. They win, and I think they they go undefeated. And like legit fill that away, not like a crazy delusional fan. But this is not a National Championship caliber team,. Not this year. They get the #5 spot, which puts them I belive the #12 team, win that and get the 4th best probably acc or big 12 winner. And I call that a win. If we can get to the second or third round in the play-offs, that's a Win. It means we finally won a legit bowl game, and I think it boosts recruiting through the roof. And that sets up our future. I know we should never settle or have a losers attitude, but I'm just being realistic, this isn't a Natty Caliber team. YET. The next 5 years, we will finally get that trophy back home.
Also Texas A&M vs Texas is a top 3 rivalry, it moves ahead of OU vs Texas. It's that big. I H8Te both teams, being raised in Lubbock, Texas. But I know and appreciate just how big that game is. And it won't matter what the records are. Texas A&M could be 4-8, and they could still beat Texas. These types of games are special, and I'm here for it. Go Irish.
