Do you lay in bed for hours without falling asleep? Tell me about your experience.

Okay here it goes as brief as possible. I've had FM for a bit over 40 years. Yes 40 years since 1982. I've studied my illness since its inception in 1982. Our body cannot fall into Slow Wave Delta (restorative) sleep due to K. Alpha wave intrusion activity in the brain. No matter what length of time you spend sleeping you wake up feeling like you have not slept at all. Sleep deprevation espacially nonrestorative sleep reeks havoc on the body as it is unable to recharge itself of energy for the next day upon awakening. Without restorative sleep the body has wide spread muscular pain thus the pain we feel.

This video feels judgemental. With my fibro I have learned that my body's sleep is reversed. I feel great if I sleep during the day and I feel like I have food poisoning if I try to force myself to sleep at night. It's been this way since birth as reported by my mother as I was happy all alone in the dark at night no matter how much she tried to get me to sleep. And yes I'm certain fibro is genetic and that you are born with it even if those symptoms arent in full force early on. No amount of meds or lifestyle changes have been able to counter my reversed sleep pattern and the more I fought it, the worse my quality of life was. Embracing what my body wants has been a huge quality of life improvement, even if that means sleeping when the sun comes up. Finally I'm getting a good solid 4 hours sleep before the bladder cramping wakes me up. Trying to force someone with fibro to fit the perception of normal is highly damaging emotionally imo.

Great video. Serotonin is important. It seems like a very promising avenue of research in regards to fibromyalgia.
