Die Hard is the first Hallmark Christmas movie.
* Takes place on Christmas.
* Christmas songs and references through out.
* Love story couple have something they aren't happy about / conflict, with the other person.
* Old Christmas tradition/reference. Theo: "Alright, listen up guys. ’Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring - except for the four assholes coming in the rear in standard two-by-two cover formation."
* Greed is bad. People are what is important.
* Happy ending on Christmas with the Couple getting together.

Except that Christmas is just a setting not a driving force, if it wasnt Xmas terrorists would still attack the building and John would still have to save the day... "Die Hard" is no more a Xmas movie than "Lethal Weapon" and the whole debate was just a joke that originated in the early Internet forums, in other words a geek thing...
@@sdkelmaruecan2907 Exactly. The Christmas references are just superficial window dressing. The only reason it's set during Christmas is for a plot excuse to get John and Holly together in the same building, but obviously once that plot device is chosen, of course they'll add superficial Christmas references to fill out the milieu. There is almost no actual Christmas spirit throughout the movie. But shitloads of action spirit. Die Hard is an action movie, not a Christmas movie. But of course simple minds can't see past the trivial window dressing.

I got another movie reaction suggestion it's one of my favorites, The Final Countdown (1980) The U.S.S. Nimitz goes back to December 6th, 1941. It's filmed on the Nimitz. It's like Top Gun meets Back to the Future.

That and it was C4. Those old CRT monitors keep a decent electric charge in them when you turn them off. So it was able to set off the C4 next to the ammo and BOOM.

The making fists with your toes is honestly good advice. Your feet are connected all throughout your back. Anyway classic movie of course, although I wouldn't read the book if you are expecting this to come from a happy ending. There is one key difference I want to point out though, the watch. That watch was a gift from Harry (the business douche that got himself killed). Hans was able to grab the watch and almost get Holly killed kind of like Harry was a plague even in death. In the book the watch has a bit more consideration and metaphor I think.

There's a debate whether it's a Christmas movie or not because it's NOT a Christmas movie. Those who insist it is and provide a list of reasons why reveal that they don't think at anything but a superficial level. What makes a movie a Christmas movie is its atmosphere, its theme, and the fact hat you couldn't tell the story without it being tied to Christmas. The only meaningful reason why "Die Hard" is set during Christmas is to have a plot excuse to have separated John and Holly MacLane get together in the same building. They could have used any number of other plot devices completely unrelated to Christmas to accomplish that. But once that plot decision is made, OF COURSE they're going to throw in a bunch of trivial references to Christmas to flesh out the milieu.
You can tell it's not a Christmas movie because you could take the Christmas out of "Die Hard" and still tell the story in the exact same way. "Die Hard" is an action movie through and through. The Christmas aspect of it is purely window dressing. Or are all these shallow thinkers actually claiming that they feel the Christmas spirit of peace and joy to all humankind by watching blood-spattered violence and murder and buildings exploding and thieves at work stealing hundreds of millions of dollars and glass-torn feet smearing blood all over the floor? Oh yeah, I see that kind of content and I get the urge to burst out singing, "Peace on earth, good will toward men!" all the time.
I mean the problem is I can argue that a few different ways. The first way being not everyone has the same feelings towards Christmas. For example .Some people think Peace and Joy at Christmas, while some people just get super depressed. Alot of folks consider Home Alone a Christmas movie (me included) but I could argue it both ways. Yes it happens at Christmas, and the plot is family goes on Christmas vacation so robbers take advantage, kinda like the terrorists took advantage of this Christmas Party. In home alone there is a ton of violence (not death sure, but still pretty violent for a kids movie) and Christmas music.
Most Christmas movies that I think of, you can take the "Christmas" out of it and the movie would not change (except for movies about literal santa clause) It's a wonderful life might be THE most famous Christmas movie of all time.......but take out the Christmas part and the story wouldn't change.

Thank you! Finally someone who doesn't hold up the third one as another franchise highlight, when it was in fact that one that torpedoed the whole concept and started the whole downfall.
@erikthompson619 they took out Holly and Christmas, that was a huge minus, and made it an over the top action movie.. which is saying something since die hard movies should be over the top action, just not like that

37:50, I'm starting to wonder if Christmas Eve Christmas parts were a thing in the 1980s and before. I've been working in corporate since 1992 and by a week before Christmas, most offices are a ghost town.
Yeah, actually good point. The corporate christmas parties that I have been to were always like a week out.
Bruce Willis was known as a comedic actor from Moonlighting (TV show) until this movie, then he became an action star. 2 and 3 are good. Don't look up the cast for 3, want to be a surprise.
Fifth Element is a classic, you must see it. Unbreakable and it's trilogy (M. Night Shyamalan) would be awesome to react to!
5th Element is on the list, and we've been wanting to see the Unbreakable trilogy! Are the other Die Hard movies considered Christmas movies as well?

Yes, it is definitely a Christmas movie. You should also check parts 2, 3 and 4 - of those, only Die Hard 2 is a Christmas movie, but I liked them all … and I think you’ll like them too … killing a helicopter with a car was in Die Hard 4 (Live Free Or Die Hard). Anyway, if you like Samuel L. Jackson, you’ll see him in Die Hard 3 (Die Hard With A Vengeance).

As for recommendations, I have something that would definitely suit you, especially Lindsay from what I saw her comedy type is, but it is not Bruce Willis … it is an awesome comedy - “Just Visiting” (if you haven’t seen it yet, that is) … I loved it, I could not watch it in one piece, I had to pause and make use of the bathroom several times from so much laughter (Christina Applegate, Jean Reno, Christian Clavier).
