Hello mate! I am about to buy my first e-bike and after going through all the research I ended up in your channel. You are doing great! My question is if you have any recommendation for an e-bike under 1000 USD that I can use for commuting purposes. I saw some on Amazon but I honestly have no idea about bikes haha thanks!

Under $1000 i would go with Amyet G60 or Ridstar Q20 with 20Ah battery, do not buy the cheaper 15Ah version

The Amyet G60 on Amazon says “frequently returned”; which is quite concerning. If you had to up the budget to say $1,250, what would you consider then? I like the retro fat tire look - so the happy run (both g50/60), engwe and the amyet look cool - but general reviews are putting me off. So if I upped the budget, what would you suggest?

When you leave charge on too long and the battery experiences thermal runaway is when fires start

@@BRichSolution Are you talking about lead acid batteries?
I mean, well, it CAN happen, but the only lead acid battery i ever saw catching fire was connected to 240V AC which is the most impossible thing you can have unless you do it on purpose.
When it comes to Lithium battery packs, they ALL have a BMS to protect from overcurrent (shorts,...), over and undervoltage as well balances the cells.
As soon a Li Ion battery pack is full, it will stop charging.
You know, when those chargers turn from red (charging) to green (full), there is NO CURRENT anymore.
The only reason i disconnect my charger is to prevent the caps from aging unnecessarily since switching power supplies will die earlier when connected to AC all the time.
Fact is.... what you are talking is nonsense, even Lead Acid batteries, as rare as they are, have already a charging circuit and stop charging when full to prevent your "thermal runaway" you claim happens when staying connected to a charger.

@@BRichSolution Just show me one electric vehicle more modern than 2020 which is still capable of a thermal runaway due to OVERCHARGING?!
Li Ion chemistry typically starts fires when:
      - cells got too much abused
      - mechanical damage, combined with further use and abuse.
      - internal short due to overcurrent sparking across the seperator, creating the thermal runaway on a tiny spot inside the battery.
      - overcharging or just charging a broken/damaged battery
The thing is... as soon you realise you either damaged your pack mechanically, internal thru abuse, "just" old and much lost capacity or revived a very deep discharged battery, you KNOW that this battery pack will become a fire hazard quicker than normal. If you even use this pack anymore due to its problems (different capacities, high internal resistance, overall loss of capacity,...)
I personally destroyed many Li Ion and LiPo cells and packs, but none of them ever caught fire on their own - I Ialways "helped"... with a nail, a grinder, a hammer, 120-240V AC,...

      @harrison00xXx Před 2 měsíci

@@BRichSolution Look, i get what you wanna say - its best to avoid "overcharging", and in fact i call a "100% charge" already overcharging as well with Lithium chemistry, but like 99% of the people see a 100% charge level just as "full" and as no problem at all.
I personally use also a timer for charging my e scooter, but its to prevent a full charge.
I either do like 70-80% charge over night and if i really need it, i top up before i drive to like 90-100% if really needed.
Alternatively i can also charge my scooter with a DIY power supply up to 350W, at which i can preset the target voltage for the prefered charge level as well current limit to choose how fast i want it charged, typically set to around 3-4A or up to 7A for a 2 hour fast charge.
