  • In this video I talk about how to break in a leather football (Wilson GST). The Wilson GST is the most popular used football by high school and college teams. Most people don't properly break the football in when they first get it so after watching this video you will know what to do.

    If you put some leather conditioner on it after you strip it, it will be a lot softer.
    Also, I use shaving cream to help get the die off. Rub it on, let it sit, then buff it off with a brush. I do it after I wipe it down with hot water after it drys.

    I have a K2 leather ball for my son (not composite). I prepped the ball and had it looking fantastic with tack. I live in the southwest and the fields sometimes have dirt patches. What I noticed is when the ball hit the dirt, it lost its tackiness quickly. Steps used to prep: Wiped it down 3x, brushed, used a small amount of leather conditioner as recommended by Wilson, used the Wilson tack bar, and even tried applying the tack spray by Wilson as an experiment. Any thoughts?

    • @Miles0416
      @Miles0416 Před 8 měsíci

      I’ve noticed that if you are a little more generous with the leather conditioner, (putting a lot on will not really hurt the ball) then it will give you more of a long lasting stick to your football that is from the leather conditioner. Also, make sure that you brush your football a bunch, and most importantly before and right after you use the tack, because you need to brush the tack into the football, and frequent brushing can even help make it more sticky. Note - with the leather conditioner, for more stick, let it dry for closer to 12-24 hours for it to really soak in before you brush it.

    Removing the "dye" or preservative is optional. Wilson says it's not a dye and recommend not removing it. Unfortunately they don't actually explain what it really is (it's probably a trade secret).
