Fun Fact: In the manga during the ensuing fight with Killua Rammot showed off his Nen ability, which was hardening the feathers on his arms and reshaping them into blades. To my knowledge this was cut from the anime for some bizarre reason.
His devination test showed us that. The feathers didn't really do anything. They were just visually interesting.

9:10 Amazingly, the dub has Gon saying "They call women like that cougars!" I looked it up the original text, and he actually says "maniacs" in English. I wonder if the intention was something like "They were crazy about me!"

the King and his Royal Guards are one of my favorite set of characters in the series.

Oh man, the discussion around the King and his view of human society this episode makes me REALLY want to hear your thoughts on Legend of the Galactic Heroes. That's a show you'd adore I think, for what it says about human society and its ebbs and flows. If you ever get the chance to react to it I'd love to see it, though I don't know how likely that is given its obscurity and length combined.
Anyway, the concept of philosopher kings is so fun to me. You gotta love a ruler who is both powerful and competent and uses that power as wisely has they can, but all the power necessary for it to be applied effectively is so rarely used wisely in the hands of one flawed individual. The examples that we have in history of such leaders are so inspiring, which makes it hurt all the more reading of how their successors almost always completely squander everything they worked so hard to built and/or maintain. Such is life I guess LOL

Meruem's analogy about humans killing other animals for food brings up some interesting philosophical themes, but overall it's a straw man. there is something very fundamentally different between communicating and interacting with a thinking, sentient being of obvious higher intelligence - whose language you can understand, who is using tools and building sophisticated feats of engineering and architecture and begging for mercy - and deciding to treat it as nothing but meat, vs killing an animal which does none of those things. even human beings know not to use apes and monkeys for food, and people that would kill dolphins or elephants for food are, frankly, pieces of shit. there has to be some respect for advanced forms of life and the process that went in to evolving such intelligence. we know this intrinsically. the ant lacks morality, and I think that's why I find him a lot harder to sympathize with than I think most of the fandom does. because I do not believe humans are born inherently lacking in morality.
I'm not a vegan, but I've always wondered how someone who says the have you spared animals line would respond to a vegan.
Well thing is.....they don't care about animals.The king did a pretty human thing before commiting a certain action by justifying it in his head.If one of them responded that she's a vegan he would just say "doesn't matter you just one in a billion" and proceded to kill them still.
"I'm not a vegan" Since veganism means reducing your personal contribution to the exploitation and killing of animals as much as possible; your saying that you are not, means that you are in favor of the torture and killing of innocent and non-innocent living beings. Just because this is normalized in today's society does not mean that it is okay.
instead of worring about a silly hypotesis, why do you support murder and exploitation?
