- In this Duisburg City tour, I am walking you through Marxloh where you can find bridal shops almost everywhere. It is also known as the Wedding Mile of Germany. Nowhere else in Germany are there so many bridal shops concentrated in such a small space, so many shop windows full of clothes, dinner jackets, rings and wedding cakes. Duisburg is located in Western Germany (North Rhine-Westphalia) and one of the largest cities in Ruhr and 15th largest city in Germany.

In the Middle Ages, Duisburg was city-state and a member of the Hanseatic League, and later became a major centre of iron, steel, and chemicals industries. For this reason, it was heavily bombed in World War II. Today it boasts the world's largest inland port, with 21 docks and 40 kilometres of wharf. This is another city walk where I am exploring the City Center in a compact form. I am starting at the Duisburg Wolfstraße station and then walking towards August Bebel Platz on the Weseler Straße, then I am taking a quick walk into the closeby Mall. After that I will return to the Marxloh-Pollmann Station before I finish this tour.

Aber G+G und Peter Pom's Puszetten Stube gibt es noch. Weihnachtsmärkte und Straßenfeste gab es auch dort. Und wo jetzt der Media-Markt drin ist war Horten. Und gegenüber vom Woolworth am Pollmannkreutz gab es noch die Kaufhalle. Und auf der anderen Straßenseite war dann Photo Beck und fast daneben ein Waffenladen. Es gab auch Sportgeschäfte und Buchhandlungen und einen Spielzeugladen und wenn man weiter in Richtung Walsum fährt war da auch C&A und Deutsche Pommesbude und ein Penny Markt.

@@drwarcloud seh ich auch so, ohne Witz! War vor einer Woche wieder dort unterwegs und es ist wirklich nicht schlimm wie hier alle sagen. Habe die Kamera sogar vielen Leuten direkt ins Gesicht gehalten und niemand hat etwas gesagt.

In 2003 I lived in Bruckhausen, not very far from Marxloh, only 5 minutes with 901 Strassenbahn. Even after I moved to DU-Neudorf, sometimes I still went to Marxloh to buy chicken, vegetables and fruits in Turkish shops.
Wow.. Aldi, Media Markt is still there, and Kik, the one euro shop also! Some places I visited in my leisure time.
I remember one day 14-15 years ago, I bought a Toshiba laptop in that Media Markt. Its sale price was EUR 999, it was very cheap since its normal price was about EUR 1300. It's the most expensive laptop that I had. About two months later, my laptop's sound card was broken and I brought it to Media Markt to be repaired. When I wanted to pick up my repaired laptop one month later, I was told by the service center guy that they were just robbed the night before. He said, someone robbed one pallet of electronic stuffs, including my laptop. They returned my money but with that money I couldn't buy the same type of laptop :))
Thanks for tuning in and sharing your story. It reminds me a bit of my visit to Media Markt in Marxloh Pollmann back in 2005, when I lived at Hamborn Rathaus. During that time the lockers for your personal belongings were all located in front of the entrance of the Media Markt and ALL lockers were physically broken, smashed....what a shocking sight that was. So glad that you got at least your money back! :)

Mit abstand die beste stadt die es gibt. Dusiburg-marxloh. Ich selber lebe in Krefeld (ca. 30min von marxloh entfernt) aber ich bin auch viel in meiner kindheit damals in marxloh gross geworden. Weil meine familie dort lebt. Es stimmt schon das mehrere bulgaren und romäne hierhin gekommen sind aber es ist nunmal wies ist. Ich leibe den alten look von der stadt und fühle mich direkt wie zuhause wenn ich dort bin. Die ganzen geschäfte und das schrille leben. Ich würde in meinem Leben immer wieder dorthin gehen und vorallem in Sommer ist es soo schön da. Typisch ruhrpott findese nur die wahren gestalten ;)
