Reynaldo Hahn Venezia I. Sopra l'acqua indormenzada II. La barcheta III. L'avertimento IV. La biondina in gondoleta V. Che pecà! VI. La primavera Joyce DiDonato David Zobel, piano Carnegie Hall 2014
Is that an angel singing? Di Donato is absolutely fabulous. What a voice, technique perfect diction and breat support combined with an angelic voice and a so charming personality. 😍 Perfection personified. Bravaaaa.
Joyce has the voice of an angel! It's very obvious that she was gently dropped down from heaven to help the people's of the universe to try and make one to enjoy life! Thanks a million for posting the video showing what real classical fine art is all about!
She not only sings beautifully but she is a remarkable actress too. She is one of my most, if not the most, favorite present-day sopranos. That's what I mean 10:55
Super confident and convincing performance. She really doesn t need the bracelet or the earring accessories as she is such a strong visual character, but it was 2014! Overall Super.
Wonderful performance of this glorious song cycle by the Raynaldo Hahn. My fav bit of this video is the accompanists tatty ring-bound piano score! Dr M
She can really show off her smooth and seamless legato in La Barcheta. It is a pity that La Biondina In Gondoleta is missing here in this clip. It's probably one of my favourite songs by Hahn.
If Joyce seduces me with this song (Sopra l'acqua idormenzada) I'll totally go out with her and let her to whatever she wants with me. I don't care if she's a serial killer. Although I think it's clear that she's not a straight man, so she's not trying very hard to seduce a woman the way men do. She looks flattered, not horny. This song is like 50 shades of grey - straight women love to sing it. because they want to be the subject. Most famous opera singers are from a singer family. Joyce is a rare gem - able to catch up, with pure passion. And it shows. Plus, I'm in love with this beautiful picture - the hall, the dress, the hair and the voice. It's a perfect picture.
I was hoping for a real veneto dialect, this is pronounced as a standard Italian version 😢. I am studying these pieces and it would help if the top artists actually learnt it correctly.
I dont want to be neg critical but she should have dressed more like an ordinary street woman, no insults intended. The character of the piece is not opera hall but more like an impromtu street performer. Still a very pleasing performance. Tell me to shut up.
Venetian is particularly difficult even for Italians of other regions. No point in doing it if it ends up sounding generically "Slavic" and emphasizing the wrong vowels and syllables, 'ad libitum'.
I could certainly do without the speech (why do some artists think it is cute to talk to and amuse audiences?) but the singing is lovely and with great characterization, a quality too often, sadly more the rule than the exception, missing in performers.
@Robert Lee, Countertenor I understand what you mean but really don't think it was intended this way. I believe instead it's a wonderful way to desacralize opera, democratize it and make it less dusty in a way and snobbish as it sometimes can be. She is so engaging the audience and breaks the fourth wall to take you into her imagination. FOR ALL THOSE REASONS ALL WE GOT TO SAY IS A THOUSAND THANKS TO JOYCE.
Dolcissima Di Donato! Sono nata e cresciuta a Venezia, amo vogare... conosco e canto queste arie: bravissima! 🎶💕🎵
Comment # 3 😄. This should have been an hour long concert special!. Her voice 🥇, the dress🥇, and her adorable banter to/with the audience.

What a beautiful voice; a great gift from Heaven for us. Thank you.
The note she delivers at 14:57 is without question Absolutely Positively Breathtaking!!. My Gosh.

Mitica ... anche se inventa parole ❤
EXCELLENT CHOICE DEAR DEAR DEAR JOYCE
Bravos!
Such a dissonance with her American English.... she's so vivid, so natural, and so damn talented. Bravo.
Reynaldo Hahn, one of the most renowned classical Venezuelan composers.

I Didn't even realize until now that La Biondina in Gondoleta is listed but she doesNot sing it!. Shame 'cause it's a Gorgeous song.
was the "burly gondolier" a subtle form of sarcastic shade? you naughty Joyce! hahaha
surely Reynaldo had cosy time after the recital... ;-)
Obrigado.
😍
What do you expect from a charming Kansas girl!
there's one missing, IV
May I Please Save This to my Personal collection of Favorite videos?.

Why is her voice cracking like cecillia bartoli?

Good entertainer but I'm not fond of her voice. She does use it intelligently, but when vocal beauty is required, it's lacking.
I couldn’t disagree more
Everything about her is vocal beauty, sorry but I don't agree with you, my opinion only - worth what you paid for it.
Ich habe keine Geld..

doGreatartistsgrowontrees? -yes, why talk, why amuse, why try to be human and communicate and give pleasure?
She is very polite and engaging. Enjoy and be grateful for Joyce's art del bel Canto.

@@laurencedankel4751 thanks for reading my mind while I was reading those stupid negative coms ahahahah!!!!
Please, don't be ridiculous!
She is so affected it makes me want to scream..." look at me i am an amazing artist with a strident, mediocre voice!"
