    This Video makes me feel Old. I remember these Trucks when they were New & not many people thought much of them Yet. ! They were very inexpensive Also.
    Seeing this one still going gives me hope my ol' 1994Runner will hang in there

    It's actually taken apart right now getting dual cases. I definitely noticed a need for them on this trip. The rear suspension is getting re-done too.
    It's not the locker ticking, it's the front cv. I ran most of the day with a cap spit out of one of the u-joints.

  • @91TOYOTA4x4
    @91TOYOTA4x4 Před 14 lety

    o haha sweet man duals are sick, make sure you make a video of that when its done.
    oyah hahaha totally sounded like a lockright auto locker in the rear hah
    im hoping to get my truck SAS'd and on 36" super swampers, with a rear detroit, e locker front and longs haha. money pit

  • @alexw12345678
    @alexw12345678  Před 13 lety

    @FJoeForty I put Marlin duals and a W56 transmission last spring. It made the truck so much more usable. The extra length in the front driveline was helpful, with the short L series transmission I was ruining cv's almost everytime out, a longer driveline fixed that issue.
    Dual transmissions scares me, it seems like most of those guys have had a hard time keeping them together. They are geared low though, pretty cool

    Really nice!
    Videos like these make me proud to be a fellow first-gen owner!
    I like how your truck is very built and able, but hides it well.
    Anybody else wish you could view the three dislikes on this video to find out which cowardly jeepers got their pink panties in a knot over this?

  • @alexw12345678
    @alexw12345678  Před 13 lety

    @146DEMO They rubbed a little in the front at first. After a few trips they self clearanced.

  • @alexw12345678
    @alexw12345678  Před 14 lety

    @gerby1818
    Yes, it has Marlin high steer. It's not to hard to put on. Getting the steering box in the right place and making sure the tie rod and drag link don't touch is key.
    My truck drives better with high steer than stock steering, even with bigger tires. All new parts makes a big difference.

  • @alexw12345678
    @alexw12345678  Před 12 lety

    It's a solid front axle. I changed the axle gears to 5.29. This is an old video from before I added the second transfer case. I'm in the process of re-gearing that as well. With dual cases and 4.7 gears in the second case, re-gearing the axles is probably not necessary.

  • @FJoeForty
    @FJoeForty Před 14 lety

    It isn't so fun to bump and jerk on the rocks, feathering the clutch. I had a Hilux like this, Marlin duals are great, but If you don't mind the extra front driveline length, joining a 4 speed with a 5 speed is easy to do yourself and gives you 2 times the low range as two cases. The output shaft on those is a female coupler, and have the same splines as the input. Just chop the pilot bearing tip, weld thick pipe to two flange plates. R+R+4x4 Low =140 to 1 at the tires! Two 5's double overdrive!

  • @91TOYOTA4x4
    @91TOYOTA4x4 Před 14 lety

    nice yota and cool video but man you need dual T cases, it would help allot and save your clutch from all that reving trying to get power down haha. and wow you locker tickes loud you should try some heavier oil in the diff.

  • @alexw12345678
    @alexw12345678  Před 11 lety

    One of the u-joints in the front CV had spit out a cap. The front driveshaft was at too steep of an angle before I put in the second transfer case and lengthened the front driveshaft. This caused the u-joints in the front cv to go bad quickly.

    @crownviclvr The springs were supposed to be stock length, both the front and rear springs were an inch shorter than stock so I had to move the shackle mounts eventually. In this video the shackle angle is horrible because it hasn't been moved yet. I've corrected the shackle angle, but the flex still sucks. They were also more expensive than All Pro springs, which is what I should have gotten. I'm planning on linking it eventually anyway, so I'm living with no flex.

  • @alexw12345678
    @alexw12345678  Před 11 lety

    I do still have it, it's on 39's and a little more beat up. Running on propane now. I have to pull the drivetrain and fix some issue to get it running again. Can't beat $900 for a Turbo 22re.

  • @alexw12345678

    • @alexw12345678
      @alexw12345678  Před 10 lety

      Yep, still have it. I have the drivetrain out right now. It's changed a lot since this video. How are the bodies on your pickups?

    • @Tarten46
      @Tarten46 Před 10 lety

      Alex Waugh I think the cabs solid on one. The SR5 has some side impact. I know where one or two other round eyes are laying as well. Im doing 1st gen 4 runners now. Was in hope of building a 80-83 pickup but I dont see that happening anytime soon. Theyre all so scarce now days and its a good idea to have a couple laying around for parts.

    do you still have the truck ? hows it doing ? i used to have an 84 22re but it was 2wd. I want either the same year or anything between 78-89 i love most of the 4x4 trucks in those years from toyota. I recently came across an 86 22re turbo. but it has no tranny or transfer case. Its for 900 bucks. so im considering it but still not sure.
