    I'm a woodworker who came here out of crossover interest, and man, what a refreshing video. Absolutely stellar example of what YT really ought to be.
    I just finished refinishing an old ice box - got the innards torn out and painted white inside and tricked out with shelves - and it's not getting used because the wife hasn't found baskets that will fit inside it. You've given me everything I need to finally tie that project off!

    You give excellent instruction. The problem is, I ordered all the materials from the links you have posted. The reed is spliced together in on long strand. The splices are weak and kept breaking. Very frustrating and a waist of money. Perhaps you need to place the link for the reed you are actually using in the video.

    Very nice and helpful.mam if I try for square koodai 10 pieces each side I am not at getting square and also want to know why do you put in between picess for base pl reply

    • @TextileIndie
      @TextileIndie  Před 2 lety +1

      The pieces in between the stakes are fillers to create a "solid" base so you can store small items in the basket without them falling through cracks. The base won't immediately be an exact square, you will have to move things around and measure it until you reach a nice squared base.

      That's fabulous? As they say in disclaimers, "your results may vary"😉Way to stick with it. I'm curious what you're using the basket for. This is one of the most versatile styles and I love to hear the creative ways people use their napkin basket.

    • @richardgrayson9934
      @richardgrayson9934 Před 5 měsíci

      @@TextileIndie I loved making it! I used it for training. In class, we made a napkin basket with open holes in it. I liked this one better and wanted to try the crow's feet. My wife is using it for a bread basket. I like making them and learning how to do different styles, but I don't know what to do with them after. My wife wants all of them, even the silly little ones. Thank you for this tutorial. The time includes cutting, sorting, soaking and I have a disability or three. I think I can adapt this pattern easily, but if I make another, I should be faster.

    • @TextileIndie

      You could use a large round reed as the rim filler. Or twist several strands of smaller round reed together to make the rim filler.

    • @beowoofthemoviestar
      @beowoofthemoviestar Před rokem

      Some folks collect the long daylilly leaves in the fall, and twist them to make a seagrass substitute. Twist and add more as needed. Probably a tutorial for this if you search.

    Hey! I was wondering what length I would need to make everything to end up with a 12x12 base and 17 inch high walls. Is this something that this technique would work for still, or would it become unstable? I appreciate any assistance and your tutorial is very well done :)

    • @TextileIndie
      @TextileIndie  Před rokem +1

      Now, as long as you pack the rows as normal that size basket will be stable.
      To change the size of the basket you would add 12+17+17+ a few inches for wiggle room for the stakes. The basic basket construction will be the same.

    Question about soaking in water I have been soaking my reeds in water for over an hour now and when I bend them they still want to crackle or split a little bit I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Maybe my reeds are really old but they look exactly like yours the same thickness and everything.

    • @TextileIndie
      @TextileIndie  Před 8 měsíci

      A little bit of cracking is okay, especially if you’re doing a full fold over. It becomes a problem when they crack more than halfway through. I would try to start weaving with them and see if you continue to have issues. If they keep cracking a potential solution would be to steam them gently in a pot. I’ve never had to do this with rattan, but it is a technique used in wood stake weaving and willow weaving.
