    Many thanks for these academie videos, some brought things I might not of think of, or reassured me about the upcoming BikingMan race I hope to do at the end of 2021, if I manage to get a seat !

    Tomorrow I'm going to start cycling like this too. I'm in Melbourne and I have a good bike lane. I often go out and paint on bikes.

    Is there any evidence that strength training (weight lifting, squats, etc.) improves the performance in ultradistance cycling or is it more effective to train always on the bike?

    • @BikingMan
      @BikingMan  Před 2 lety

      More effective to spend also time on strength training or cross training to reinforce the body

  • @osnoekie
    @osnoekie Před 3 lety +1

    I agree with most of your advice but training without drinking is terrible and possibly dangerous advice. Yes you will know what it feels like to be thirsty... big deal. It's not like your body will adapt to use less fluids or use existing fluids more efficiently. A better tip would be to figure out how much water you will need for a certain duration and for certain weather conditions so you'll know, come race-day, what you'll need to bring and when to restock.

    • @BikingMan
      @BikingMan  Před 3 lety +1

      Hello Olav, we're talking about the exact same thing with a different approach. Figuring out how much water you need for a certain duration is extremely hard considering the variations of conditions / terrain that you can possibly meet on a bikingman, especially for unexperienced people. This advice on water is more about: getting your mindset prepared for the unpredictable instead of trying to calculate something very hard to predict on race-day.

    • @osnoekie
      @osnoekie Před 3 lety +1

      @@BikingMan ok cool. As long as it's clear for everyone that dehydration is quite dangerous so it's not a good idea to intentionally seek a dehydrated state. I agree that you do need to figure out strategies for different situations and that can only be done through experience.
      Your events look challenging and well organised. Big kudos for setting this up and maybe see you on the road sometime!
