Tragic story, yet knowing the history of this country, I am not surprised. Our Indigenous people deserve so much more.

The fact that Mollie was her GRANDMOTHER shows how shockingly recent this was. Only two generations back. This was a horrible evil tragedy that should never have happened. Barely a century ago.
Edit: I know that these things still happen today. It is a terrible injustice that is hopefully being talked about more because of this movie. The film is absolutely incredible and I hope the Osage people are satisfied with the way their story is told here.

Most known atrocities to natives are really just recent and couple generations ago across the nation.

It *still* happens. It happens every day in Oklahoma. Maybe not specific murders but the entire state is basically Indian burial ground, and the Tribes or as they were officially taught to us in school "The 5 Civilised Tribes" get jerked around in the state of Oklahoma every day its something
This is an extremely powerful film about one of the many America’s gruesome history’s of the indigenous community’s history of the settlers. (Fully aware of how many disliked the film) for reasons that are obvious and perhaps other. But nonetheless it is a powerful one. History needs to be taught again more accurately in our books. I’m just so glad Martin chose Leonardo to portray the character. A highly admirable and respected actor/human being.

This movie made me weep 😢 as a Tibetan I can relate to the Indigenous people. Our culture, language has been wiped off through Chinese genocide of my country Tibet. I hope the Indigenous communities get more attention in regards to discrimination, systemic racism towards them.

Wouldn't it be great if Hollywood kept creating films that have made a REAL cultural impact by sharing true stories like Killers of the Flower Moon? America has a long and bloody history of murder and denying the long-term effects of those impacted by such hate and cruelty. I am 49 years old and cannot find my ancestral roots because of slavery. Imagine never knowing who or where your family is from? These real-life events always break my heart, but the Truth is finally coming to light. Maybe one day, the Truth about the Tulsa Massacre will be shared, and those individuals and insurance companies that denied the claims that black businesses submitted and were denied will be illuminated, too. We can never move forward until the past is accurately told and the evil will finally be purged.
It's interesting to mention, considering the widespread conspiracies covered in this movie and book, that it was just THIS very year that a judge in the Tulsa case reportedly ruled against the victims and proclaimed it could never be brought up again. Justice will NEVER be buried, so I'm hoping that more actual Black historians, activists, and filmmakers will be involved similar to what John Singleton took on with "Rosewood."

Hollywood doesn't have to be involved at all. Documentaries that are as close to the truth are plentiful. Books and Audio Books teach a lot. However, if you go to their websites you will find more truth than any Hollywood movie. There is so much information on the internet you will never learn all of it in your life time.

@@noinfo326 With great power comes great responsibility. Anyone who commands attention from the _"bully pulpit"_ has a duty to say something worthwhile, whether it be only to entertain, but social commentary is a moral responsibility placed upon those who speak to the masses.
This does not need to be as blatant as this great movie, but it can be done through hyperbole such as any good science fiction has always done. Art, theater, and music serve as the conscience of our society as a whole. When one can command an audience, one must recognize the power they wield as to the potential to influence others and present issues that need to be addressed.
Once you get everyone to listen to you, you might want to have something to say.
I recall Tom Hanks being outraged when he learned about the horrendous tragedy of Black Wall St. Also a part of Oklahoma history.
He demanded to know why this event was also buried in American history.
Thats how I felt when I first learned of the tragedy thst befell the Osage people.
But at this point, not surprised.
And that event is depicted in this movie as well

Movies that tell the truth such as this movie and others about slavery and the holocaust should make you feel bad. It is called empathy for fellow human beings.
Im from oklahoma a this wasn't ever mentioned in any oklahoma history classes. But also neither was the Tulsa race massacre.
Neither are taught in history classes. My American history was taught many yrs ago but I wasn't taught anything about history of native American. Everything we were taught never took indigenous people into consideration. I loved history and we traveled several vacations a year and my parents taught me both sides. Plus I loved to ask questions. I am 64 still love history.
The Tulsa race massacre (1921) was at the same time.
_They_ didn't like the Osage gaining wealth and _they_ didn't like seeing black people succeed in places like Greenwood.

So horrific. These stories need to be told and taught in schools and to all. I remember, learning for the first time how the Aboriginal peoples in Australia had there babies and small children buried in the sand, with their heads sticking out by evil men , they would hold the greving and assualted, beaten mothers back as they kicked the babies and small children's heads off. This happened only a century ago. So much horror like this occurred and is never discussed. So much pain felt even now in the generations since. Its important to talk about these awful horrors .

@@JackSquat336 it's horrific hun. Have a look at Aboriginal history after Australia was colonised. It's still occuring today in the sense Australian land is and has been stolen from them. They are the original and first people's on Australia, they know their land and that's why so many devastating bush fires happen now . Because the aboriginal people did controlled fires to prevent it occurring and now they can't even protect their lands from complete devastation. It's sickening.

This movie highlights how people can be evil because of their greed and selfishness. It shows how people can manipulate others and how people can love people who manipulate and lie to them. It made me feel gross because the story is so close to home. I pray the souls of all people have returned and will return to heal their past, for the people of the future who descended from this horrific human event.
I would love to hear about as many tribes as possible. I’m sure that they all have stories that need to be told. Looking forward to seeing this movie. ❤

I'm not native, I was not even born here - I am first generation immigrant.
But I feel strong connection to this majestic land and I want to learn more about history and the ways of the nations that have been here long before Europeans came over,,,

Killers of the Flower Moon is a very good book , and the movie is well done. What a tragic story. Oklahoma is such a racist state. There needs to be a movie about the Tulsa Massacre of 'Black Wall Street' which occurred at about the same time.

as an irish person this film broke my heart, over the generations my family lost homes and lands that were granted to english planters just because they would not pledge allegience to a foriegn monarch, but, the use of emotional connections adds a whole other layer of dispicable to the osage story
Notice there’s a pattern to this stuff. It’s always the Anglo Saxons.. Other Europeans were no where NEAR these people in terms of the connivery, back stabbing and LIES.
The great American Prima Ballerina, Maria Tallchief, was a Native American, of the Osage people. Her father became rich. Some of her family were killed.
Excellent book. Plan to re-read and take notes of all of the characters and relationships. Hopefully, will soon see the movie. History is so necessary to understand the truth.

I have always been upset how our native Americans have been treated. I always had many questions as a child, thankfully my parents supported this. I remember in Minnesota, i was probably about 10yo. Luckily i was asking many questions to the chief about harvesting wild rice. We were interrupted by another family that just shoved in took a picture with the chief. I remember how i felt , thinking this chief was so disrespected. So glad that the indian point of view was taken into consideration.

Between what they did to the Tribes of Oklahoma and the Tulsa-African American city that was up and coming it was a common thread.
No other culture in America deserves their own renaissance more than the indigenous people.

Still happening today Navajo Nation people experiencing this same problem:/ promise of failed treatment by those individuals who saw money! As a Navajo it’s just so embarrassing and frustrating and disgusting that people do this. But one day I will take the Navajo Nation into the 23rd century on my land will be the next Las Vegas. But with great care and planning will be a powerhouse of a small country of native American descents of amazing heritage and people of all kinds.

I don’t believe this was a love story between Ernest and mollie . The movie showed it to make it watchable .

I dont think it was portrayed as true love in the movie. At best, earnest might have thought he was in love. Obviously no one would knowingly kill the dear relatives of a person they proclaimed to love
They spoke to people in the Osage who said it was a love story. Ernest was manipulated by his uncle and it wasn’t totally his fault.
I wouldnt call it a lovestory, that diminishes the whole story
If you look up at the full moon on a clear night you can see the Masonic Ritualistic depiction in the shadows . That is really scary true.
This is a love story like kidnapped a person and force them to have sex while you steal their money with Noone to come to your rescue.
Doesn’t surprise me that Jim Gray would take credit for this film being made on our lands. When in fact, it was his late sister’s daughter and another Osage who fought diligently to make sure that Scorsese’s people were brought to our Reservation and taken to the areas focuses on the deaths talked about in the book and movie.
If his sister were still alive, that interview would have been very different!
Our history as a country needs to be told. All the ugliness and injustice to many tribes. We cant heal and move to be better til we do.
Just watched it last night. I can honestly say it’s a great film, I didn’t mind the runtime, thought it could’ve been easily trimmed a solid 20-30mins, but it was fine. I love Scorsese but I think we should be honest in saying the man is clearly no longer in his prime, I must admit I was slightly underwhelmed by some aspects, and this film just feels like it was made by an older man. I feel had he made Killers of the Flower Moon, say around the late 90’s or anytime during 00’s I feel like this could’ve ended up as his best film ever as the source material is rich and the story is powerful. It just seemed a bit too slow of pace while also rushing certain aspects, I mean Jesse and the police aspect didn’t even show up until almost the 2 and a half hour mark, it didn’t have a balance at times. I still think it’ll be a front runner for best picture and best director but I think Oppenheimer may have a chance of taking those awards now, as well as Napoleon if it lives up to expectations, could also end up as the favorite. I wouldn’t count out Poor Things by Yorgos either.
I hope Oppenheimer doesn't win more than 11 oscars

Scorsese is a wonderful director has made many great films. I dont understand when some say that all his films are blood and gory.....i cant help but think they are somehow in confusion of Scorsese and Tarantino.....Tarantino films are notoriously blood abd gore....

the story that happened about this indigenous community. A reflection of human greed is a lack of humanity. Throughout the history of the Americas, many indigenous peoples were massacred, exterminated and their lands were invaded. To this day, in South America, indigenous communities are threatened because their land contains valuable minerals, timber or land invasions.

I would really like to see this movie but I’m a bit scared. My mom is from Oklahoma (Ponca City) which is in the North/East part of the state. I’m scared that my moms family might be part of this and if they are then I would start crying in the theater.
Hi, my boys were born in Ponca City, at what used to be called St. Joseph Medical Center in the early 90s. We have very fond memories of the town and the people, and our little house on Mistletoe Dr. brought us so many times of joy. It will be hard to see this movie, but we owe it to the Native Americans from Osage County.

I liked the film. However, I felt it should have been told from the direct perspective of the Osage people. It was from the perspective of the white man.
I loved the movie too however the entertainment industry won’t allow that unless their were Native American directors or script makers then they could show their side of the story.

It's a terrible thought process which leads to such decisions. They believed that it would make life easier if you married someone white. Osage were deemed incompetent and weren't allowed to control their own money and were required to have a white guardian by law to whom they would ask permission to spend their own money.
It helped to have a white spouse, that spouse would be taken seriously, and they hoped bigoted and racist behavior would lessen.
These Masonic organization was in charge of these concentration camps and forced these natives to have sexual relation and ate there food and poisoned their wine. What is my IQ?
Because their state government wouldn’t allow them to control their own money. The state only allowed whites to control the Osage wealth.
