    Green cause salads are green, it’s fine and doesn’t need to match the kitchen but I got the clear one..never had one and finally got it. Because it’s also good for berries, herbs I grow, vegetables, rinsing and draining beans!, cold pastas…however I doubt I’ll use it for vegs or pastas as I just rinse and drain in a mesh strainer.

    I recently got the stainless steel version of this spinner. Happy about it. Great mechanism sturdy etc. But I was wondering if the plastic inset can be doubled as a colander to train hot food (pasta for example). I highly agree that kitchen gadgets should be multi-purpose. So as soon as I got this new salad spinner I was wondering if I can throw away my colander. However I could not find such information.

    • @DennisfromScratch
      @DennisfromScratch  Před 2 lety

Your cons makes a good point because I'm looking to purchase a spinner for when I rinse my fruits, such as grapes and blackberries, with you personally using this gadget and having it in your home, do you think that the large size version will be good for that? With the size of the object that's under the lid that takes up space.

    Good review except that I like the GREEN, I chose it over the bland white & black. There is a stainless steel and a glass bowl version but they go for $80-$100 and the colander and lid are still made from plastic. The plastic is very thick and sturdy and spinning is soundless which means the specs in manufacturing are very tight. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality.

    Hi, I just bought mine but I have a question. After I pumped the big button(i don't know how to explain it) I feel it hard to pushed it down which makes total sens well after I pumped for the first time starts to spin but when I want to pumped another times to make it fast, the big button feels so weak and i notice that even if I pushed more time the spinner doesn't go fast. Is that normal? I see, from your video, that the big button feels hard to push all the times after the first one but I don't know if that's my impression, I hope you can answer me because I bought it online and i don't know if I need to returned it

    • @DennisfromScratch
      @DennisfromScratch  Před 2 lety +1

      When I use the salad spinner the first few pumps do require more force and the several pumps after that require fast pumping to increase the speed. If you depress the pump slowly it will move slowly if you push it quickly it will move quickly. Remember to empty the water a few times during this process if the lettuce starts very wet. There will likely be a few drops of water still on the lettuce but this is the case even with expensive salad spinners.
      I would contact customer service so they can answer the question of if your particular spinner is defective or not.

    Dennis, several negative reviews on Amazon regarding the speed (or lack thereof) the basket rotates. I purchased one and after a pump or two, it's at max (which really isn't all that fast) and won't increase in speed no matter how quickly you pump the handle resulting in somewhat wet salad. Apparently that wasn't the case with the previous model, at least according to the reviews. Just wondering what your thoughts are as you didn't mention it in the review. Does yours spin at higher and higher speed the more you press the handle, or does it throttle out after a couple pumps...and does it get the salad dry enough? Thanks much.

      @@venusssvenusss2482 Yes, the first pump is harder because it requires more torque to start the basket spinning from a full stop. Additional pumps will be easier as it's already in rotation. • @DennisfromScratch
      @DennisfromScratch  Před 2 lety +2

      With my salad spinner the first few pumps do require more force and the pumps after that as long as I pump quickly does seem to keep the speed, which for mine is a decently fast speed. • @donnajaemoon

    Yes, that green one is hideous. I’ve been using the OXO brand for many years. I think they probably came out with the green model to attract consumers who use one of the competitors’ models, which are that bright green. Actually, that green color of the others is what drive me to OXO. Great video, by the way. But, even though I avoid using a stainless blade on my unbagged romaine, and I pat my chopped leaves dry, I still have a problem with cut edges turning brown. Maybe I should wash and dry whole or half leaves, instead of cutting them (again, with a plastic lettuce knife)? I refrigerate layers of cut lettuce, separated by paper towel sheets, in a plastic container with a basket and vent. Thanks.

    • @DennisfromScratch
      @DennisfromScratch  Před 2 lety

      Hmm. I’m not sure how much the type of knife affects the oxidation rate (turning brown). I use a stainless knife and find the lettuce lasts for at least a week before it gets any significant discoloration. Storing the leaves whole should definitely help though. Also, reducing their exposure to air is a big one; maybe try storing in ziplock bags with all the air removed.

No inner plastic round thing, and no part that goes down in the salad loosing space. I don’t like this thing at all! Can’t understand the reviews.

      To answer your question… it might spin, but it won’t mix the ingredients together. The spinning function is just for forcing the rinse water off the lettuce.

What is important is that the product works. I will get the large one as you suggested. Good review but poor response on your fixation over color.

    This is the worst salad spinner I've owned. Why? Because whereas with spinners that use handles and your own effort to create the spin speed, this one's speed is driven my the push button mechanism. Trust me, the rpm from the button is less that 30% of that achieved by a handle spinner. The leaves water on lettuce, so you have to dry the lettuce on paper towels- making the spinner pointless. It looks good, it is well made. Sadly, it doesn't do its job

    So u are not sponsored by Amazon or the Oxo company ? I guess not, but all you said & natural. Yes green is ugly. Why they are trying to be so green ? That is over board. What a waste that manufactures are making these products of this color out there. It doesn't match kitchens. I love lilac, purple, metal, maybe red, blue, etc. All reviews on different spinners like it says not dries well so I never got one. They want too much for metal. Plastic not last as much. Only worry of it. I wish I could get it for a substantial discount or auto. I don't 2ant to push anything. I am getting too old or time consuming. Well all I said sort of convinced me cuz yeah it has beed around years, etc. My kitchen white facing, but is an old small effc behind the owners. Is not my dream kitchen or place or much space as I need or want. It does make you be able to want to have nice sets to match even if fixed the clutter, etc I have atm. I need to move to a nice home.
