i was going to say same. Girls Rock Bank Kakumei. (also known as Girls Rock Band Revolution) .. The first time i saw Trident - Nagisa is a Junna clone. I did not clue in that something was different until i noticed the bass drum did not have "Junna" on it. It was after a search that i found that Junna had left.

Thank you for breaking this down! I'm only a beginner in playing drums, but I've been listening to drums long enough to recognize immediately the crazy skill Junna has when I first heard this song. I hope to see her in a future band that embraces and leverages her talents!

Junna from Trident, Haruna from Lovebites, and the incredible Akane from crazy Band-Maid are today the best female drummers you can listen to, I also say this because I'm an old silver wolf passionate about all kinds of music, and I've seen practically every group that you can imagine in concert including the above, since the 70s.
In 2019 the last concerts I saw were those of the Band-Maid, I saw three in a single week chasing them across half of Europe.
Being you focused on the drums I will tell you about my impressions of Akane and Junna the drummers
I've never been more than 5 meters from Akane because all the concerts were in small theaters with small stages and thanks to my magical knowledge I was always in the front row in the center against the stage.
I have been a musician, even a drummer as a second instrument, and I must tell you that Akane live can kill you, she plays for two hours like there is no tomorrow, and with the joy of a child who wants to break everything with hammers.
I have often thought that some drum component was rolling around the stage, and during a song (Shake That) this almost happened when she folded a tom stand.
The most incredible thing about Akane is her mastery of creating magnificent drumlines that literally sweep you into the song as few other drummers can.
She also has amazing precision, her speed of movement through the drum set, allows her to close the fast passages with unique precision, without the usual closing micro-delays (that all drummers) sooner or later do.
Akane in concert often does things that can leave you speechless, like putting pedal ghosts in the middle of lightning-fast dual pedal bursts, never heard before.
to let you understand what I'm talking about, imagine that in some songs it was Kanami (the guitarist) who convinced Akane to use the double pedal, she was fine with the single, or what you can hear Junna do with the double pedal Akane can do it in single, did I make myself clear?
There was a video on youtube that has now disappeared where Akane showed her fast single pedal technique with foot glide, it was a video that seemed impossible, she was fast and precise as few do with double.
On the official Band maid blue rays at 30 frames per sec, you often don't see Akane's arms or hands, simply because there is no frame, Akane has moved in less than a thirtieth of a second, never seen before, only once in a Carl Palmer video.
Akane studied piano and trombone and drums for 6 years before recording her first record with Band-Maid in 2013, she is currently in training.
Akane is friends with Haruna the Lobvebites drummer, Haruna is not valued for what she deserves, because she is forced to play like a locomotive from the Lovebites genre, this devaluates her a lot, even if obviously the lovebites take a great advantage from the incredible technique of Haruna.
Junna is another like Akane who plays in full fun and breaks everything too, in concert she is truly spectacular but much more repetitive than Akane and less open to any genre.
After a concert in 2016 jimmy Page went to find Akane to compliment her by calling her one of the best drummers ever heard from him, and every band's dream to have her with them.
You also have to consider (as you have surely noticed) that Band-Maid songs, especially the latest ones, are on average 20-30% faster than any other band, so your ear gets used to it and you may not understand that Akane is often beyond what anyone else can do, listen carefully and then try to repeat certain passages, my brother is a great drummer and a graduate teacher from the Milan Conservatory, and he tells me that when he listens Akane feels shivering.
According to the count of an expert Akane in 3 minutes of a song at the same beat speed, she puts on average 80% more hits than any other drummer, but it is not invasive, this is pure magic.
Akane in some songs changed the beat a dozen times.
Akane often mercilessly steps over the singer (Saiki) in a magnificent way, (few do).
Akane often follows Kanami at full speed during crazy guitar fugues without obscuring it but emphasizing the guitar solo.
In concert often MIsa and Akane can kill you with unique bass and drum battles. (Misa on bass is absolute).
Akane in concert is better than on the record !!!!
Band-Maid have a repertoire of over 100 songs, (in just 7 years) and they are all beautiful, this is unique in the history of all rock, since ever.
While she may not seem like it, Akane is probably the most complete drummer in the world today, and this has to be, to be able to play in Band maid, the best rock band ever.

Very interesting post. Thanks for the insights. I would love to see her live up close. I have wondered why I can listen to every BM song and not get bored. I think you partially answered my question. Champ of Medium says a great drummer can really enhance a guitar solo

    • @kaazan1

      @@falconsooner you hit the target!
when you are at the Band-Maid concert it is impossible to get bored, you will be overwhelmed by a wave of pure musical power.
This is also due to the incredible care of the sound, the Band-Maid sound engineers in my opinion are very good.
You will be able to hear every note even if you are hit by a great power.
When I went to the concert, the sound was tuned with great emphasis on bass guitar and drums, I felt Akane in my bones, and I vibrated with Misa.
However, since the frequencies of the guitars were far from the bass and the drums, you also read Miku very well even if she was less powerful, and when Kanami emerged she killed you with emotion, but without breaking the balance of power held by Misa and Akane, (they really rock in concert).
Miku has a great sense of rhythm and often manages to stay in counter-time in truly original ways.
The arrangement of the songs is impossible, there are moments where you really can't understand how they can not get confused with each other, the rhythms of bass and drums are intertwined with Miku's rhythm in ways that are truly difficult to repeat, I am a musician, and I tell you that Band-Maid, they play really difficult music perfectly, and in concert, they are much better than from the record.
They also have a great musical culture, in their songs you can feel the influence of many genres and of musicians now forgotten by many, I think that the less young people find with the Band-Maid the old emotions that only the super bands of the years 70 knew how to give.
And then put Saiki on it, she with all her elegance and mastery of the stage and you're done you can't save yourself.
I was pressed against the stage a meter from Saiki and I could hear her natural voice not that of the sound system, she has perfect natural intonation, and she straightens your hair.
At the end of the concert, you will be in love with her with no escape.
Sometimes she reaches down and reaches out and you see her fingers dancing in front of your face, she looks at you she smiles winks, she is a perfect dark queen of the stage, she sucks you into the song.
At the end of the concert, you will be tired, sweaty, even a little deaf. but very happy.
if you can you have to run to the Band-Maid concert.
I had planned a trip to Japan to see them at their home with their fans, but then the covid arrived.

@@kaazan1 Prominent musician Rick Beato made a YT about what killed Rock and Roll and he said it was because musicians...particularly guitar players don't grow up playing blues. Pretty much all the great historical rock bands and performers were blues based. Which brings me to BM. One of the YT reactors...Guitar Gent...has talk about how bluesy some of Kanami's solos and riffs are. When you watch Kanami in concert it is evident she feels the music. It isn't that she is just putting on a show...she really feels it. Often it seems like she is in her own world. The guitar solo she sometimes does before Moratorium is very bluesy. Misa also seems to be the same way. People comment about her inventive bass lines and from interviews it seems almost instinctive. She really seems to feel the music. The extrended intro to Alone she had in OOJ3 was very bluesy. I doubt they were exposed to much American blues...especially growing up. So why do they sound bluesier than most current American rock bands? I know that is why old guys like me who listened to rock from Elvis through early 90s like BM so much. Did they learn the blues somewhere or is it somehow innate to Kanami, Misa and Akane? The blues bring a freedom of expression that comes from within. I really think that freedom is what causes BM to be so creative. Anyway...I'm not a musician..just a rock fan. Would like your thoughts.

@@falconsooner After seeing three concerts and listening to every Band-Maid song very carefully, I can say that I agree with Beato.
Surely Kanami and Misa have a blues culture, but I also add a little bit of Jazz.
Kanami has always said she loves C. Santana, and Santana has a very Bluesy and Jazz sound, even if contaminated by Latin, it's Fusion.
Don't forget that in Japan the old super bands are still very much loved and followed.
In Japan, everyone knows Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and many other super bands from the 70s.
and on this, a real culture was created which was then mixed with J rock and J classic pop.
Listen to Thrill and Lady Evil (from Black Sabbath), of course, Kanami was also listening to Tony Iommy, same goes for Akane.
These great bands of the past had all come from the Blues and ended up in rock and hard rock but not in metal.
Go listen to Band Maid's song "Brand-New Road", if you don't know it, you will find Black Sabbath, Depp Purple, and Led Zeppelin all mixed together, with a Black Sabbath style Jazz cut (which often included Jazz and pure blues) and complete with organ recorded by Kanami, it's impressive. (listen to it is a great song).
In the final part of Black Hole, you will find references to Peter Hammil's compositions of the 70s.
Anemone has a melodic line that seems drawn but not copied from old songs by New Trolls an old Italian super band, which was very bluesy and jazzy, and which had great success in Japan in the 70s and 80s, the New Trolls had a great guitarist and singer Niko Dipaolo, who in my opinion inspired Kanami in the fast solo parts, Nilko di Paolo was a real Killer on the guitar, he could be very fast with great emotion in music, and he was a great Blues and Jazz guitarist.
Akane has certainly studied for Jazz and you can hear it, this makes it complete and imaginative, as you can hear in "The Dragon Cries" as an example.
How can you compose a masterpiece like simple Matchless Gum if you haven't heard Jimmy Page?
Akane in some songs looks like Bonham, in others like a missile following the music in all its variations as only Carl Palmer can do.
In the song, Yolo, one of my favorites, the drumline is absolute, impossible to do better, the arrangement and rhythm of the guitars are absolutely far from any classical Japanese influence the same goes for "onset".
Many Band-Maid intros are pure Jazz-Rock or Progressives with a heavy blues influence.
Misa plays the bass like the great rock bassists once did she plays a lot of notes, Misa does absolutely unique things, like doing a bass solo over a Kanami guitar solo, not a dialogue, just together, this is today forgotten, it was only done in the 70s, and great musicians did it, only they could.
Akane puts ghost notes in double kick bursts, who can do it like her?
If you then read the lyrics of the latest songs you discover that Miku is a great rhythm guitar as she is also a poet.
I also think that the Band-Maid are still immature and will still give a lot, we will hear terrific things in the future.
Band-Maid gave breath to great music that was dying, now many new emerging bands will have a new example and rock will be better.
The Band-Maid reminded everyone that good music must also be able to play it and must study as hard as they do.
I find all girls very good, but I have to admit that Akane really impresses me on an absolute level, Akane could have played with Greg Lake and Keith Emerson in the 70s or with Yes or Led Zeppelin, or with The Police she is incredible, she is really complete and absolute it is almost unbelievable that a drummer like Akane can exist today.

Senri Kawaguchi can technically outperform both, but Akane handles a lot of changes in a single song, she is more creative and can also be fast or slow in a single song. She is 24 yo and started playing when she was 15 yo and she started this band with her class mates which is Girls Rock band kakumei not Trident the band changed there name to Trident after Junna left the band nearly 12 months ago. I didn't realize Junna was in this group. I've checked out a few of their videos before, but Junna wasn't in any of them. I guess she must have left the band after a fairly brief time? Anyway, it was cool to see this. Even though I'm a guitarist, I tend to fixate on amazing drummers rather than other guitarists. I'm not sure why that is, maybe I should've been a drummer...Anyway, since you are a drummer and drum teacher, and you seem to be looking at a lot of Japanese musicians at the moment, I think you'd appreciate the talents of Tam (Tamu) Murata if you haven't already seen her. She's played in a band and collaborated with other musicians, but mainly she's worked as a session musician and appeared in demonstrations and clinics with a bunch of Japan's elite players. Currently she's in a supergroup of sorts called Nemophila along with shredder extraordinaire Saki (from Mary's Blood) and other very talented musicians from fairly well known bands. It's cool to see her rocking out with Nemophila, because generally her fortes are sort of experimental music, jazz fusion, and progressive rock. Here are a few examples of her playing for you to consider checking out.
Constant Motion (Dream Theater) drum cover (from 2015). czcams.com/video/OJpzXHxC9fs/video.html
Rie a.k.a. Suzaku - Across the Sky (Live - Instrumental Summit Ladies Night 2017) This one's notable because she has a fairly lengthy drum solo in the middle czcams.com/video/GxfBdUF2loo/video.html
Drum duet with Senri Kawaguchi (Senri is widely regarded as one of the best drummers in Japan) czcams.com/video/ViyZ49RsNfk/video.html
    INSPION - Cytus II (2018) czcams.com/video/kwsciXm_7sA/video.html
And finally, something she just uploaded to her channel a couple of weeks ago whee she also plays the keyboard. czcams.com/video/zUJQZkIW-04/video.html
Well that seems to be a good start. Oh, and also Nemophila. I kind of feel like I've seen you react to them already, but if not, I'm sure others will have already suggested them. Tamu's the drummer.

You got the pronunciation pretty much right the first time. The only part you missed is something you wouldn't know unless you studied Japanese, so here's a little trivia for you!
When you see a double consonant in Japanese, it indicates a little pause. Something like "joon-nah". Another example is Wagakki Band, which would be "wahgahk-kii". If that makes sense. Not quite a glottal stop, which I think happens mostly with vowels.
Listening to a native speaker say it, the pause is almost imperceptible if they're speaking quickly, but it's there.
I'm an amateur at the language but that's my understanding of the Japanese double consonant.
