I guess it depends on how you got those crystals in the first place. Usually you would need to recrystallize them first in order to purify them, maybe add some Norit (activated charcoal) and use hot gravity filtration to remove the rest of the impurities, then cool the mixture down slowly and use vacuum filtration to recover said crystals like in the video.
This filtration method, only speeds up filtering. It is a MASSIVE time saver and does nothing else. It may take minutes/hours/days to filter with normal gravity and may still be very wet. Vacuum Filtration can work within a few minutes and the air being pulled over the items, will help dry it faster also. Imagine if you wanted to re-crystalize 10 times, how much time you would save with one of these Vacuum Filters, by quickly removing most of the water. I've never used one of these, but i've tried making natural pesticide from foods and spices and the normal funnel+filter method of filtering took FOREVER and to try to speed it up, i started poking around and scraping and ripped the filter. Only a little bit of hot pepper and stuff made it through, so i went ahead and used it as a spray, and the unfiltered parts, clogged the spraying, ruining it forever. I was obsessed with this Vacuum Filtration method since I first saw it on Nile Red. Today I saw a few videos on making one "Do it yourself" for cheap, where you can use a syringe or a portable bike tire pump (the kind shaped like a syringe tube) or a reversed aquarium air pump. I would love to get one of these things and try it with purifying homemade Hot Ice (Sodium Acetate trihydrate and anhydrous) from boiling down a mixture of vinegar+baking soda.
