For my whole childhood my father wanted me to help out at the family farm. I didn't want to and he kept making me feel guilty about it. I didn't realize it as a child but his whole operation is so utterly dysfunctional that it rules his entire life and keeps him stressed and was always more important than us kids which must have contributed to my aversion. Going to university for a Msc in industrial engineering I learned about management. I tried working at the farm and tried to implement change that was desperately needed: cost calculations, scheduling, process standardization, etc. He went out of his way to make it impossible for me to help, he regarded me as an out-of-touch intellectual who is no good for practical work and doesn't want to get his hands dirty even though I was doing manual labor most of the time. We fought for a year until I had enough of that insecure, petty, cruel, obstinate, thoroughly unorganized man. Years later I am still struggling with it.
I am so moved by the scene when they saw water coming out from ground. Water is such precious resource, but people in my world do not understand it. We need conserve water no matter how abundant it seemed to us now.
There is a big lesson here. "Ignorance is fought with dedication and humility." The son is dedicated to learning, and the father is humble to accept his mistake.

This movie was set in an era when windmills had already been in use to pump water for many years. They had also already been used to generate electricity and to operate all kinds of machinery. Windmills were also built so that they would turn into the wind, which the windmill in the movie didn't seem to be designed to do. Why weren't windmills being used in his country before he came along?
It’s not that it isn’t in his country, it’s that it’s not widely used or built. Just because a country has access to something doesn’t mean all villages or regions have them.
