    I always remember how Diana loved to visit the US. I think she felt more free from the at times vile British tabloids and she wasn't restricted by Royal protocol .
    Not knocking the Monarchy ,just giving my thoughts on how Diana saw things

    And of course Charles checks his cufflinks soon after he is out of the car. That is a nervous habit that he continually does. You can set you clock by it. If he is SO worried about losing a cufflink, why doesn't he just where cuffs with buttons?

    Princess Diana should have waited for Charles before greeting the Reagans. The marriage was really on the rocks at this point.

    I noticed that Nancy kept trying to put her hand on Diana''s back/arm, but the Princess seemed aloof and put off by this gesture, I guess the Royals did'nt think the Reagans were worthy of physical contact !!, lol.

      Oh I think you read way too much into things here. Diana was rather unsure of herself in those days, notice how she slouches when standing with the Reagan’s upon arrival earlier in day. Mrs. Reagan was an old hand at these diplomatic functions and her etiquette was always spot on. She did what was customary in those days. @dennis jones

      You're mistaken about the protesters. They are pro-IRA protesters who oppose the British occupation of six counties in northern Ireland (which continues to this day). I believe they're chanting "IRA -- All the Way" which can be clearly heard when the couples are standing on the red carpet.

    Formally, their titles and styles are _Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Princess of Wales_ . Her formal title was never "Princess Diana" because she is not a child of the monarch.

      @@brontewcat Daniel Jr was referring to the former Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon who held the title of "Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother" from 1952 to 2002 at the time of her death. _Queen Elizabeth_ by itself can be ambiguous since the name can be referred to any of the two regnant "Queen Elizabeth"s or the three consort "Queen Elizabeth"s throughout the entire history of the UK and England.

      @@brontewcat When the title _Queen Elizabeth_ can be referred to the current monarch or the former consort or even the Tudor queen, then it is ambiguous and, therefore, not accurate. A term can never be accurate if it is ambiguous.

      At this point, they had been married over four years. Apparently, the real breakdown began after the birth of Prince Harry (Sept. 1984) so at this point in Nov. 1985, the marriage was on the rocks, and it was showing.

      I think it's "IRA -- All the Way!". The IRA hated the British royal family. In fact, just six years earlier, they had assassinated Lord Mountbatten in Ireland. He was a member of the royal family (his sister was Prince Phillip's mother), and he was very close to Prince Charles.

      Obviously there are many things you don't understand, Edna Kelly. Prince Charles has travelled extensively on behalf of his Mother, Queen Elizabeth. Several members of the Royal family do the same on a regular basis.

      The RF was NEVER so exciting in many decades as when Diana joined the family. The Royals are huge celebrities and heads of state are not the only people accorded such lovely welcomes to the White House.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure she enjoyed being in her company, but most Americans have a trivial fascination with royalty because we don’t have any monarchs here, but that’s pretty much where it stops, we don’t have any deeply rooted respect for people just because they carry a title or where born into a certain family, Americans don’t bow or curtsy before royalty for a reason

    Lets see: Charles - ugly, awkward and boring as usual. Well atleast he can speak a few foreign languages fluently (German).
    Diana - looks like a tall lanky dude with an 80's George Michael hairdo.
    Ronald McDonald Reagan - warm and charming
    Nancy - actually quite attractive, charming and graceful.
    The true heroes of the show were those protestors shouting "IRA all the way!"
