At the end of the day all them other producers ain't got shit on Hitboy anyway. Hitboy produced some of the biggest hits for the past 10yrs including producing Nas's KD series albums. I ain't hating on them but their work doesn't come close. Hitboy has gotten better over the years & he's definitely up there with Uncle Al, 9th wonder, Preemo n dem. All them other producers just know how to make party & club hits but Hit can make any type of beats whether it's club joints, party joints & straight Boombap hiphop beats & westcoast. He's a all rounder producer.

Typically, "freestyles" are usually just throw away bars and/or verses that artist have that they never used or planned on using. They then take a combination of all their unused material that contains similar subject matter, and just mix it together to make a cohesive "freestyle."

A lot of people are surprised that producers are such good writers. I’ve always felt like most were good writers as they had a feel for the flow and beat more than anyone. Some just don’t have the voice for it or want that much of the limelight. It’s not unusual for producers to sell beats to artists and the producer to already have a hook or concept for the beat to pitch to the artist.
Hit boys verse is unreal. The beats AL has been making lately have the best rappers just go off and I'm here for it.

I have no context for how that works tbh. Does he have like some of the beat created beforehand? Or is it just a "kit" with different sounds for each button, and also a recording/mashing button? So he would just be smashing buttons creating the beat and throwing it all together live?
@@jdwilliams4821 Oh, for sure, he absolutely set this up before they shot the video (understandable seeing as looks like they're renting out a retail store). That wasn't the creation of the beat you see in those few seconds of Alchemist hitting the pads. But you're on point in that, there will often be different "sounds" on each pad- could be a full loop, a chop from a sample, a drum hit, etc... Hit-boy is actually playing his chops out in the very first few seconds of the video; obviously he had this beat made beforehand but that's an actual example of the process
edit- actually, when the beat starts it looks like Hit-boy is playing along w the chops in certain shots too, up until he switches with the drums when they come in 1:20ish- and then from there the shots of him hitting pads are some along with the chops, some drums
