Never ever wore a helmet in the past but hit 40 and self preservation kicked in so I tried the half dome and wore it on easy sport routes from time to time but once I upgraded to the vapour (old style) I never climb without it now, only reason not to would be vanity, wore it in Kalymnos recently and it still didn’t even have any sweat issues.
Loved the old vapor! Tried the new one and I just hate the new 'cord suspension system' :(. The old one had that plastic quick release and was so easy to adjust on and off, with gloves (I'm in Canada and lots of mornings are cold), but the new one is just flimsy, hard to adjust on the fly and impossible with gloves. Super disappointed in the change!
I think the helmet is a big improvement generally, but yeah I'm with you on the adjustment system. I'm sure it saves a few grams but it is a faff.
Ive got the edelrid shield. Realy light and comfortable. Them one of the headlamp attachments disappeared one day. This meant i had to tie one of the straps together. Still works, but now its slightly unbalanced which is a lil annoying. but other than me not taking care of it, 5 star helmet.
I got the camp super basic helmet as a spare so i can take friends out. Its fine for the price, but so much heavier. I definitely notice it when i wear it.
Still rocking my original Vapor helmet, 2013 :) JB any thoughts on the current Gore-Tex jackets from the usual companies?
Oof, well done on making it last that long!
I haven't tried many I'm afraid... I currently mostly use a Triolet (Goretex) and a Dual Aspect (H2No) I really rate the H2No stuff...
What would you say is the most protective out of the ones in this video for alpine use? Obviously if a boulder the size of a car hits you, a helmet won’t help but with more general rock fall what helmet would you feel most comfortable with?
I'd pick up my Vapor to take, for sure. That wouldn't have been the case with the old version...
@@JBMountainSkills thanks mate, that’s great to know!!!
My new vapor rolled down the hill underneath Aonach Dubh 😢. It was strapped to my rucksack and got absolutely smashed up.
