    Happy you were able to upgrade your die-cut/embossing machine! Keep one plate as a designated cutting plate, and the other as a base plate to lessen warping. You will only have to replace one plate at a time instead of 2. Also, rotating the plates before each cut reduces warping. Looking forward to your future projects with this machine! 💕

      Not really an upgrade, more of a replacement. My Cut n Boss got distroyed in the windstorm. It was a lot like this.....big plates and electric. And yes, with all of my die cutting machines I keep a designated plate for the cutting side of the dies. I will try to remember to rotate them.....they have already warped and have only been used a few times!!! I had my Cut n Boss for several years and the plates never warped. But I am used to my Cuttlebug plates warping. I may have to invest in the Sizzis stainless steel cutting plate. But for now I realy can't use this because I don't have a place to set it, and it's too much of a hassle (because it's heavy and big), to keep moving it. I only have one table here to do both crafting and recording, so I can't keep my craft supplies on it. I can't wait to have a craft room again!!! 😊💗🤗 Hugs....Janie

    Make sure you fill out your warranty stuff online. I haven't had issues with mine, but about a year in, my best friend had issues with her's and like you said with your first one Sizzix was good about replacing her's. Not sure if they are still offering the 2yr warranty or not, but they were when they first came out. We absolutely love ours. I use the Magic Mat with mine because I absolutely hate warped plates and just can't seem to turn my plates in such a way to avoid it and the magic mat saves me from warped plates. I hope you love it as much as my best friend and I love our's.

      Thank you so much Amanda for the reminder!!! I immediately did that after reading your comment and before replying 😊 I know all about warped plates (from my Cuttlebug) and hate them too....and these plates are already warping! I'm not sure why, but my plates for my Cut n Boss never warped in all the years I had it. It broke my heart when it was one of the things destroyed when the windstorm hit and everthing fell in and got insulation blown into it and rained on. But I am glad I discovered this one...in PINK!!! I hope it lasts a long time and continiues to work great. As for the Magic Mat......I bought one for my Cuttlebug and was not plesed with it. The die cutting was horrible. But yet I hear others just love it. I might try it again......or I might get the Chrome Precision Base Plate. It's all pretty expensive, so it may take a while. Besides, it will be months before I have a craft room again. The insurance company hasn't come up with the money for the contractor to even start work on the house. Wish me luck.....or better yet, keep me in your prayers 😊💗🤗 Hugs...Janie

      @@janiethecraftprincess I'm sorry to hear that you are still fighting with insurance. That's such a pain! Moving has taken us longer than expected. So, I kinda feel your pain on not really having a craft room anymore. I packed up about 3/4 of my craft room and moved what I didn't pack upstairs to a smaller bedroom and really only have a part of it over a year ago. I miss my huge craft room and all my stuff so much. We are hoping to be moved around spring though. So, hopefully, I will see my stuff again soon. I should just be thankful I still have my stuff. I'm sorry you are going through all this still. Insurance is so slow and that's not fair. They certainly aren't slow to take your payments. 🙄

    Oh Janie awesome demonstration, I’ve been thinking about getting one for awhile ! Always appreciate your honest opinion. The embossing folder is so pretty. I had an electronic machine not this one but returned it after a week, the plates warped horribly. Excited about your next projects . Love the Prima paper 🥰 Hugs & Moochies my sweet friend 🤗🤗💋💋🐘🐘

      Hi Annie 😊 Glad it was helpful! But....the plates warp! Or at least one of them did. But I have heard the Gemini has the same problem. And my Cuttlebug has the same problem. The only one I have ever had that the plates didn't warp was my Cut n Boss which is also electric and has the large plates. I had that for years and the plates never warped. But sad to say that was distroyed in the windstorm. So I was looking for a replacement and decided on this one. I do LOVE how well it cuts with intricate dies!!! It cuts and embosses very well, so I guess I will deal with the warping. I may have to invest in the Sizzis Chrome Precision Base Plate 😊💗🤗 Hugs....Janie

      Yay! Thank you! You are the best!!! I hope you love it as much as I love mine. I will give you a heads up......several people have told me the plates warp. That's not unusal as I had the same problem with my Cuttlebug plates, and I have heard the same about the Gemini. I think it has to do with the amazing pressure that makes it easy to cut intricate dies. Here are a couple suggestions......Designate one plate for the cutting edge of the dies to face, and flip your plates often so they aren't going through the machine the same way all the time. Don't feel you have to replace a plate if it warps. With my Cuttlebug, I have used the same warped (and etched from the dies) plates for years.....they will still work. This is just how the machines are and I didn't want you to be surprised or upset if you are new to die cutting machines. I'm so happy I got this one and really love how well it cuts intricate dies. Enjoy yours 😊💗🤗 Hugs....Janie

    Such a pretty machine, love the colour! I like how the sandwiches and instructions are all showing on the plates too. Wow, it works great! I have a Gemini, and the sound of yours is a lot like my Gemini. However, I usually grab my old Cuttlebug for non-intricate dies because the Gemini plates warp badly. I would be interested in seeing a follow-up at 6 months or a year to see how you still like it and if you have any issues. I don't think you'll have the warping problem like the Gemini plates, but I would be interested in knowing as time passes. I think you made a great choice, and I also think you'll be very happy with this Sizzix! So glad you now have a die-cut machine! Great review, I like honest reviews. You are very trustworthy and I love my Fiskars Procision Rotary Bypass Trimmer that you reviewed/recommended, thank you! It was a gift from hubby, and the price has gone nuts since he bought it. BTW, I think the thick embossing folders are 3-D embossing folders. Have fun with your new toy! Wishing you a blessed day, my friend! Sending lots of hugs!

      @janiethecraftprincess  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I loved my Cut n Boss, but insulation got blasted into it and it got wet, so I decided it was time for a new one. I was torn between this one and a Gemini, but when I saw that Scrapbook.com had a pink one....well....the pink won 😃 I can already tell that that the plates warp. It might be the pressure. My Cut n Boss plates never warped......in all the years I had it I had never replaced the plates or had any issues warping. But it also didn't cut intricate dies as well as this Sizzix does (so far). So I guess if you want to have the pressure to cut intricate dies, then you end up with warped plates. That would have to be the downside that did not get shared in the video because I really hadn't noticed it that much yet. I like your idea of doing an update on it in 6 months 😊 Also I forgot to mention that it's heavy, like my Cut n Boss was, so you should have a designated place to set it so you don't have to move it around. But since I don't have a craft room yet, and only have one table to use for both crafting and recording, I won't be using this much for now because it gets in the way. I did have some issues with the first one......one issue was user error, but there were a couple other things I wasn't happy with, so they replaced it (after having me send them a video showing the problem). I'm hoping I still like it after I get to use it more because it was expensive.....and it's pink! I'm so glad you like your Fiskars ProCision Rotary Bypass trimmer. I love mine so much! It also got blasted with insulation and it caused some issues, but my friend took it apart and cleaned it and put it back together and it works great 😊 Hope you are doing well....have a wonderful day 😊💗🤗 Hugs.....Janie

    I also suggest labelling the clear plates. Either use a marker or some washi tape. That way you know which one you want to use for cutting and for embossing. And when rotating. xoxo

    • @janiethecraftprincess
      @janiethecraftprincess  Před 9 měsíci

      LOL I don't have to label it......the one that the die cuts are on has die cut marks all over it, just like my Cuttlebug plate 🤣 But thank you for the suggestion. With my Cut n Boss (big electric one like this) my plates never warped. Not sure why everyone elses plates warp, but it just seems to be the same with all the machines. But I do love this Sizzix Big Shot Switch Plus 😊💗🤗 Hugs....Janie

    Hi Janie, what a nice bundle. I have a big shot plus, not the switch and I love it. The switch looks great and maybe one day I will get one. I do have the Sizzix Vagabond2 which is great as it works like your machine, but not as large as the plus that you have. Wow, love the embossing result you got from your embossing folder that came with your machine. Happy crafting!

      Hi Sue 😊 I got the smallest bundle they had, but they have a few others that come with more things. I'm happy with what I got, it's a nice bundle. I remember the Vagabond! I thought it look so cool. I like having the bigger plates because sometimes I want to cut a lot of things at once, or am using a piece of 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock and don't want to cut it down. I do love how well this works with intricate dies and embossing folders. My favorite feature is....IT'S PINK....LOL 🤣 Thanks so much for stoppiong by.....have a blessed day 😊💗🤗 Hugs....Janie

    Thank you for all the info ! One question have you ever cut felt with this machine?

    • @janiethecraftprincess
      @janiethecraftprincess  Před 6 měsíci +1

      No I have not cut felt with it. All of my craft supplies are in storage while my house is being rebuilt so I can't even try it for you. However it's not the machine that cuts the felt, it's the cutting dies you use. Also, felt usually needs to be backed with something in order for it cut because of the way the fibers are. Steel cutting dies (not the thin metal dies) will usually cut felt. The steel cutting dies are in thick cases with foam paddeding to hide the steel blades. Those can be used with this machine, you just have to "sandwich" (layer) the plates differently. For that you would not use the thick base plate, you would "sandwich" the big cutting die between the two clear cutting plates. So even though I can't answer your question the way you hoped I would answer, I hope you understand that it's not the machine that cuts the felt, it's the cutting die 😊

    I don’t know if anyone can help…but I used my smaller acrylic top plate with the Switch bottom platforms and a Magic Mat. My top plate was starting to warp so I turned it over…BIG mistake! Now everything is stuck in the Switch! I have wrenched the whole thing out once before but didn’t realize that the plate I used today was too warped…it’s only a few months old. I can’t wrestle anything out!

    • @janiethecraftprincess
      @janiethecraftprincess  Před 7 měsíci

      The first thing I would like to suggest is calling Sizzix. I don't work for them and am not affiliated with them in anyway. I purchased mine completely on my own from Scrapbook.com Since it's only a few months old it should still be under warranty, or at least they should have a suggestion. I don't want to suggest anything because I don't want to take the chance that my suggestion would make it worse. I can tell you I had a problem with my first one and after I sent them videos of the problem they were nice enough to replace it. But before replacing it they did give me suggestions that didn't work and did have me send several videos so they could see that it really was having an issue. But they were very nice to work with. So give them a call.....and good luck 😊

    What way do you put die down

    • @janiethecraftprincess
      @janiethecraftprincess  Před 5 měsíci

      The cutting plates have visual and written directions on how to layer the different style cutting dies, as well as directions for embossing folders. The directions show the cutting side of the die facing down. I have found that sometimes with intericate dies you might need to face the cutting side up. I would suggest starting out with the Sizzix instructions provided, and then from there find what works best for you.

    Unfortunately, these machines will only last for about 3 years or less. I have a Gemini that’s about 3 years old and is not cutting as good even with new cutting mats. I also had Tim’s luggage style electric die cutting machine which gave up after 1 year or so. Tattered lace brand was my first one. That was a bust. Only lasted for about 2 years. Was my door stopper, now on it’s way to the dumpster. Very expensive machines that have short life spans.

      Sorry to hear you are having such problems. Before this I had a Cut n Boss (very similar to this) and had it for many years with no problems at all. The only reason I am replacing it is because my Cut n Boss was damaged when my house was destroyed by a severe windstorm. I also have a Cuttlebug that I have had for about 13 years. Actually I have 2 Cuttlebugs because one was my daughters, and that has also lasted about 15 years. I'm hoping this one lasts at least as long as my Cut n Boss. What do you use for your die cutting? I know you listed many, but it sounds like you didn't like them and they didn't work for you. Did you stop die cutting? Or have you found one you like?

    The plates are too heavy! Luckily I had the standard plates. The plates warp much quicker than my Big Shot. I turn and flip my plates every time, they still warped. In my manual BS, I used one set of plates for two years, new plates lasted less than six months with the Switch. I am very happy with it, still don’t use the heavy plates and it saves me back pain from cranking.

    • @janiethecraftprincess
      @janiethecraftprincess  Před měsícem

      Hello....thank you so much for stopping by 😊 Before I reply, I would like to say that I am in no way connected to Sizzix. I purchased this with my own money and by my own choice. With that said, I'm sorry about your issues. To be honest, I don't understand some of the issues you are having. I don't know if you mean the base plate is too heavy, or the clear plates are too heavy, or if they are heavier than the smaller plates that the smaller machines use. Cuttlebug was my first die cutting machine and I have had mine for about 15 years. I have had issues with the plates warping, and have heard people say, no matter what machine they have, that they too have problems with the plates warping. About 5 or 6 years ago I got a Cut 'n' Boss electric die cutting machine so that I wouldn't have to crank and also I could use 8.5" x 11" cardstock with it. Those plates never warped. But my machine was destroyed last year when a tornado hit my house. That is when I started looking for a new die cutting machine. After much looking, I decided on this Sizzix Big Shot Switch Plus. I have had this for about 9 months and am still very happy with it. I do not find the plates heavy for their size, but yes heavier than the smaller plates used with my Cuttlebug....but of course anything is heavier if it's larger. But I have really not noticed a weight issue. And I have not had issues with the plates warping. Actually.....I did have a problem with them warping with the first one, but it had other issues as well and was replaced. I believe the pressure of the first one was too much. But since I got the replacement, I haven't had any issues. I always use the same plate for the bottom (the side the cutting die faces), and the same plate for the top, so that way they both don't get etched. I don't consciously flip the plates, so I don't know if they are getting flipped. What are the "standard" plates you are referring too? Do you mean the smaller plates for the smaller machines? I guess if you only need the smaller plates then that would work for you. I personally like the larger plates so I can use larger cardstock and larger dies, but that is just my preferrence and the reason I purchased this machine. I'm glad you found a way to use this machine in a way that works best for you. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences. Have a wonderful weekend 😊
