  • People on the spectrum often find themselves *overthinking*. The way we process information through our senses can be overwhelming and add extra work to our already overworked brain. But there is hope! Mindful practices like yoga can help us de-stress, refocus our wandering thoughts, and find a sense of calm and ease.
This is a two part video. The first part focuses on the specifics of how yoga can benefit people on the spectrum by stimulating our Parasympathetic Nervous System. The second part is a 30-minute yoga practice that’s accessible for all skill levels, even beginners! And there’s no sweating involved, promise.

This evening I had one of my worst sensory overloads and meltdowns ever and wasn’t able to sleep because of that. Then I stumbled across your video and it was so helpful to me. I can’t thank you enough for it🧡

Thank you, this was a nice practice. 😊
I normally practice yoga with Mady Morrison on CZcams, alsmost daily since the beginning of the year too.
But I had to take a break for a few days due to having a cold.
This practice was ideal to get me back into it, and it definitely also released some tension I built up today.
The nostril breathing was new to me as and interesting as well, thank you. 😊

Thank you, this was fantastic! I just had a kayaking lesson yesterday and my instructor told me to do yoga to stretch out, and this got the hard-to-reach muscles I couldn't quite get! I especially appreciated that you said it was ok to move around, play, and kind of stretch/move in different axes - that helped me get those spots. The fluidity to do a variation is a yoga game changer for me!

This comment brought a smile to my face! Awesome! Yoga is the best. Also, so is kayaking!! I LOVE TO KAYAK! I hope you're enjoying your lessons. Thanks so much for watching.

I loved this. I don't feel safe doing yoga for NTs because it's too fast and too overstimulating for me, but knowing you're autistic really helped. If you want to do any more I would welcome that!

You might want to look into yin yoga.
It is very slow and you stay in the (relaxing) positions for a couple of minutes.
It is my favorite style of yoga since it is SO calm and relaxing. 🥰

i love this. exactly what i need. like you, i discovered yoga in hs (i'm 44 now) and i've done it on and off my entire life since then. but i've always been more of the *striving* kind of person, doing every pose perfectly. so this approach (also yin and restorative yoga) is obviously something i need. this year is my year of embodiment and this fits right into that. 🙏🏻🕉📿 namaste

Thanks Tay! Another helpful video. Love yoga too. Do it everyday and it has helped me so much. Also realised I was on the spectrum when I was 32,just a year old than you were so it's so fantastic viewing your videos, It helps me feel less alone too. You are fab! Thank you x

An endless chain of thanks, :) 'tis smashing someone who fathoms how demanding it is to remove that stormy wave of thoughts whilst doing an activity. Btw, I did adore your shelf full of books, Finding a house with books nowdays is like hitting the jackpot. :)

    • @MomontheSpectrum
      @MomontheSpectrum  Před 2 lety +1

You're very welcome! I'm working on upgrading my audio quality so I can make the videos easier to listen to and enhance the experience. Keep at it with learning how to become aware of the stormy thoughts without fighting them. It can be a longer process but it has definitely gotten easier for me. And of course it's easier when you practice things like meditation and yoga more frequently. I notice pretty quickly when I sidestep and lose track of my practice.
As far as the books, that's mostly thanks to my husband!! He reads like 100 books a year - no exaggeration! If it was up to him, we'd have so many bookshelves we couldn't see our walls. :)

@@MomontheSpectrum wow 100 books a year!!! He's a through and through bright spark. I cherish knowing about every topic, but my attention span betrays me and I end up having a finger in every pie when I should be focused on something specific, you know during all this time, I 've thought there' s a whole World to be beheld and so crowds of people to get to know after all this Pandemic comes to an end. well, you know "This is only a chapter of your life"
