    Jarrod, thanks for reminding horse players of the many unforeseen factors that can happen before and during a horse race! SIERRA LEONE's race in the 150th Kentucky Derby and IMAGINATION 's race in Preakness 149 illustrate some of the unforeseen and unanticipated factors! We horse players need to remember this and be kind with ourselves and public handicappers.

      I appreciate the informed comment. These horses are not machines and there are a million ways to lose. There are legitimate excuses for below par performances and some fans could benefit from that knowledge.
      Hopefully, the Belmont will be run on a fast track and all of the entrants get clean trips. Also looking forward to seeing Imagination back on a preferred fast track later this year.

    If Dornoch runs....could he be the Lemon Drop Kid of this race? Back in 1999 Lemon Drop Kid won at odds of around 29-1. LDK ran 5th in the Bluegrass - Dornoch ran 4th in the BG. LDK ran 9th in the Derby, Dornoch ran 10th in the Derby. Ya never know.

    • @JarrodHorak
      @JarrodHorak  Před měsícem

      I remember Lemon Drop Kid. He was a good one. Dornoch has the pedigree to handle the distance, and he should be forwardly placed. I won't hold the Derby against him. The race flow was not to his liking and everyone does not run quality races in the 20-horse Derby. He is most effective when he gets out of the gate and attends the pace, and is allowed to get into a nice early-pressing rhythm.

    Sierra Leone will be my top pick as he was in the Derby. His running style in a 20 horse field will always be a risky wager, but he was ultimately his own worst enemy down the stretch.

    • @JarrodHorak
      @JarrodHorak  Před měsícem +2

      Sierra is the horse to beat in the Belmont. He has more advantages at Saratoga. Fresher than the Derby-Preakness winners, smaller field, and less traffic. Hopefully we can get a price or two behind him and knock out some of the more obvious paper contenders.

      I wonder if SL will be going off at around 9-5?

      @paulv7554 Před měsícem

      @@roblegg3983 I can see him going off at 2-1 or 5/2 if Fierceness runs. I tossed Fierceness in the Derby and I'm tossing him again. Sierra Leone is taking this.

    • @JarrodHorak
      @JarrodHorak  Před měsícem +1

      @@roblegg3983 It depends on the field size and if Mystik Dan goes. Derby winner would definitely take a decent amount of action. I would say less than 9-5 but higher than even money. We could meet in the middle and say 7-5.

    No possibility of Catching Freedom?

    • @JarrodHorak
      @JarrodHorak  Před měsícem +1

      Catching Freedom is not pointing to the Belmont Stakes, at least that is what his connections said after the Preakness. I am not sure what they are going to do next. My best guess would be a short break, followed by a summer campaign in races like the Haskell, Jim Dandy, or Travers.

    JAROH C'MON THEM HORSE ALWAYS FDIND A WAY TO LOOSE THE RACE

    • @JarrodHorak
      @JarrodHorak  Před měsícem

      Not quite sure what you are trying to say. Horses always find a way to lose a race? Which horses and which races are they losing? Some horses do not like to win and would rather hit the board. I try to identify those horses and key them underneath. Some horses are win types, and others will win or finish up the track. Some horses have valid excuses when they lose and others do not. Sometimes it is bad handicapping and I make a mistake and pick the wrong horse. That would be human error.

      @@donovanhoilett268 Nothing wrong Mystik Dan's effort in the Preakness. He has found consistency and McPeek has done a great job with him. I heard that he was energetic in a gallop yesterday and is continuing to hold his form throughout an ambitious campaign this year.
