Are these just diatonic scales?
Yes they are diatonic scales, when you see that they are symmetrical at the end that’s where it gets fun. You’ll be able to play all major diatonic scales (Ionian, Dorian, etc).
It's confusing because the Aeolian scale is just a natural minor scale, but the diatonic scales also just start at Aeolian in Minor and then my brain explodes. I have the shapes all in my hands and brain, but I still end up so lost. I also learned the three Major and Minor shapes, or expressions, but yeah.
Scales are hard.
