    I’ve never been successful with my double bass playing. This unique breakdown is superb. Now I have something I can a work on to improve. Your very last tip, using you left foot to play standard beats was I think the best. You’ve put into words what I go through exactly. That’s a gift you have man. Thank you. I subscribed and liked a quarter of the way through. Terrific job!

    the tip i didn't get on this video. When you don't use a double pedal but still only a hihat on your left ( for righty drummers) play with the hihat during a beat when using the bassdrum foot. Normally you will go exactly between a (bassdrum) note by pressing bass foot pedal/right hand on hihat and the moment the bass foot hits then open/release immediately the hihat left foot. >> you will get the bSSSHHTT sound.... The feeling of double bass playing will already develop automatically, ( because the left will follow the right foot) in this way you develop a excelent timing on your left foot. This helped me a lot in my double bass playing during the years even before i played double bass :) enjoy!

    Also for a really cool galloping sound like in the 4 hoursemen by metallica just do tip number 5 but triplets instead of doubles, it sounds a little cooler and more intense but is about the same difficulty. It also helps build up the leg strength and stamina if you do it as a warm up

  • @minotaur470
    @minotaur470 Před 10 měsíci +1

    I've really noticed that my left foot has a lot less control than the right, for double bass and even for more complex hi hat stuff. I've tried playing basic beats with just the left foot and it's sorta worked but I'll definitely try to invest more time into it

    • @gsxracer1977
      @gsxracer1977 Před 7 měsíci

      I have a tip, just play beats while your driving and use the left foot for bassdrum. That will improve the feel of left foot over time a lot, later you implement it to the kit on double bass pedal. :)

    • @ambrooks5
      @ambrooks5 Před 6 měsíci

      Same here. I try to play with my left foot as much as possible. My problem is staying in time. My feet ALWAYS want to speed up. It’s so frustrating!

    Drum Dog, so Ypou place the slave pedal on the outside of your Hi Hat pedal? I just got my first double pedal. I will "try" this lesson with interest. Hey, I'm 69 YO, it takes a lot of Time to accustom to these things. THX and Be well. FYI, I resumed drumming after a50 YEAR Hiatus as a Teenager. I play for Recreational pleasures only -m playing to My Music of Basic Rock and Roll.

      For the slave pedal placement, it's totally personal preference to place it either side of the hi hat pedal. Go for whatever feels most comfortable to you!

    I have serious problem of holding my breath when I play constant double bass above 140bpm 16th notes...

    • @drumdog
      @drumdog  Před 3 lety +2

      Breath control can be a real killer, we completely understand!
      Give this a shot: practice at a lower tempo, say 90bpm, and focus entirely on your breathing while playing constant 16ths with your feet. Practice each foot individually playing 8ths if you need to, the key is to try to let the playing happen without your input, and focus entirely on relaxed and regular deep breathes. When it feels comfortable, slowly pick up the tempo by 2 or 3 bpm each time, making sure you get the same level of relaxation before moving up!
      Hope this helps 🥁🐕

    • @thommypergliamici2992
      @thommypergliamici2992 Před rokem

      Those are called mid tempos and are a pretty damn hard tempos to play at. I'm facing the exact same issue (but I can't play ankle motion yet) and I think the key to solve this is to find your "sweet spot" on the pedal board. For example, let's says you're playing 140bpm 16th notes run using leg motion, If you find it too fast but still too slow for ankle motion, just go a little backwards on you pedal board and so on until you find the tempo where you have to use ankle.

    Another super important “trick” which is overlooked approx 99.9% of the time, is the shape of the cam. Pretty much anything ever mentioned about double bass should address this first n foremost. Is it a perfect round sprocket or off-center? It’s bizarre how no one for whatever reason wants to me too it. Really one of the few reasons that separate pro pedals and everything else w a cpl obv exceptions. Yes beater placement n foot board adjustment blah blah blah matters too but not as much as the shape of the cam. Most of us like the off-center cam n some dig the round sprocket. That’s all that really needs to be mentioned lol y’all gotta start being more honest and jus be straight up with ppl w/o clogging up our feeds w the same stuff everyone else puttin out there.

    *The Double Kick bass sound is the worst sound in rock music history. It is for drummers who have poor stick control and poor imaginations.*
    My friend John JR Robinson never has needed a double kick bass pedal of any kind.
