This guy has just made me like golf again after 5 years of misery…thank you
Thanks Kerry for clarifying something that I’ve just realized is the core problem. Great video, excellent presentation no muss, no fuss extremely clear explanation and great delivery of information.
Awesome to hear, Thanks
Thanks.. makes perfect sense. Playing tomorrow(florida)and have been struggling with this exact issue. Ill definitely keep you posted 👍
Thanks David! How did you go?
Wish I could have understood this 50 years ago. You hit the nail on the head 100% pertaining to my golf struggles. I have heard it before but never really got it til watching your video. Thanks!
There’s no better time than now. Glad you found it helpful!
This is probably the best and simplest video I've ever seen on how to hit a golf ball solidly and consistently. It may have helped in the video if Kerrod described the loaded and extra stable feeling through your feet during the swing with added spine tilt.
Great instructor with a very listenable voice.
Thank you, Geoff!
this is a problem i dealt with for a while, having too flat of a backswing. i found that thinking of shoulder angle was confusing and hard for me to assess, instead i like to think about what my lead arm is doing in the back swing. working the lead arm straight back or even exaggerating it to the point where the backswing becomes VERTICAL is a good way for me to improve the swing plane.
Excellent. Watched a few videos about this before this one but this one cleary demonstrates what to do. Headed to the range now.
Great to hear.. Thanks 👍
This is perfect. I’ve struggled with a flat backswing forever and this is a great thought for me. Thank you!
Good to hear!
Perfect! Just saved me asking you about hip and shoulder rotation on the same plane!
You got it!
Well done m8… sweet I am on it…. been fighting this for a while thanks
Great advise and clearly explained thank you !
Thanks!
Excellent video and very well presented. Eager to try this out.
How did you go?
Great video. Really solid advice. Thanks
Many Thanks 👍
You are a champion!
Thank you playa
This helps a lot 💪
Happy to help.
Thanks for watching 👍
That was exactly what I needed!!!!!!!!!
Thanks 👍
Keep Watching!
Good stuff! Thanks! This is exactly what one of my faults is! Did not noticed till now.
Try this drill it will certainly help
Great lesson 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks 👍
Great lesson!!
Thanks 👍
Great lesson mate.
Thank you kindly!
That is so well explained. I went through a period of being taught to “load up behind the ball” and keep right knee flex and now I have a bad case of flat shoulders and head sway. So much more is now known about the golf swing. Keep up the great lessons !
You got it! 👊
Same with me , Ledbetter’s “ The Golf Swing “ , I developed the same habit and it’s hard to change now at 74 !
This is it! This is what I've been doing wrong. Just tried this and I'm blown away. Thanks for the videos, I'm subscribed and look forward to more great well explained content.
Great to hear!
Thanks for watching👍
great explanation. Thanks
Glad you liked it!
Thanks 👍
Really good well done
Thanks Tom!
Great tip. Using the body to pivot.
Thanks for watching👍
Thank you very much
You’re welcome
Hi Kerrod, do you have a follow on video to this ie shoulder turn in downswing. This fault in backswing is definitely me and I’m working on the drills you have suggested . Thanks
I'm an amateur player with only a little experience at the driving range... I'm going to try to this out Kerrod within the next week and see how it goes. I have had trouble... Feeling stiff in my swing, not feeling comfortable on the ball and swing being all over the place
Awesome. I just had a lesson with an instructor and my shoulders were too level. Arms were lifting to finish swing. He had me do the exact same thing. I can’t believe how significantly better my swing is. This change is allowing me to hit it so pure. And I stay centered on top of the ball. Also trying hard to never lift arms and let the shoulder turn do that. Had to also adjust set up to allow this. My old setup would not allow me to make that shoulder turn.
What did you change in set up?
Outstanding
Thanks 👍
Great tip...I can now correct my bad habit. Cheers!
Perfect!
Thanks for watching 👍
This is real instruction.
Hope you found it useful!
Awesome
Thanks, William 👍
Good swing dynamics are important for back injury prevention too. Case in point.....
I agree; elite athletes such as yourself would know that
@@kerrodgraygolf elite athletes after a month of physio as a result of another golf related back injury 🤕
Great video, thanks. I have no problem doing the drill, but then when I actually put a club in my hands normally I find it hard to replicate the nice looking tilt like in the drill. Sigh.
Well and clearly explained. Thank you. I usually turn my shoulder more around by staying central and without this tilt. The clubhead does not go inside. Granted that my shoulder is less tilted but it is not flat. I feel like if I do this tilt my weight would stay more on the lead foot and even reverse pivot.Any comments would be appreciated.
That would mean you have a lot of arm lift in the backswing
@@kerrodgraygolf thank you for your reply. It may be this case. I move all at the same time even the first move comes from my core/shoulders.
How about the arms? Can you describe the link with what the arms should do? Thanks
Should your arms by in the same plane as this shoulder rotation or should they be working independently?
The case where the shoulder turn is flat but also centered... not covered? Same effects, I feel like the flat centered shoulder turn promotes over the top.
Is this like a stack & tilt swing? Reference lead shoulder down to ball, does it matter if your head lowers a bit during the process?
Cheers
Andrew
Your head shouldn’t move down it should stay relatively stable
I am a low handicapper but do this move with my driver can’t find a trigger to start the backswing and turn my left shoulder down . Any ideas? It definitely is a killer
Wow, this makes sense. Is it possible to cross the line at the top and come too inside on the swing path with a flat shoulder plane? I’ve noticed that my shoulder turn is very flat, and I suffer from both problems. I’ll try the drills and hope my crossing line at the top goes away.
It sure is! Balance is everything
Do we need to keep the same shoulder plane for both iron and driver? Thank you.
Based on hip bend at address yes
I guess I'd argue a more flatter shoulder plane (as long as you aren't standing up and out of posture) with a more connected takeaway helps shallow the club and keep it shallow which results in better strikes than more angled shoulders in the backswing which tends to get the shaft steep and then a "move" has to happen in the downswing to shallow it out which is difficult concept for most avg golfers. When talking about the striking of the ball it's more about getting the low point in the arc (hips) in front of the ball. The tilting often leads to reverse spine angles and the head getting in front of the ball which is worse imo. The massive upper body you're showing for sure would cause issues but it was an exaggeration.
Looks very like a stack and tilt to me
Does this also apply to driver ?
Yes it does 👍
So you know longer want to keep that right knee still and rotate around it?
That is correct.
100% this is me
Once you get this right your swing will be unrecognizable 👍
What’s going on if head is lowered doing this ?
You're too far on your toes at address or you're not turning your hips in the backswing.
Isn't this just stack and tilt?
This is where I struggle with the stackntilt stuff. I respect that people have different ideas and methods, but I dont see any top pros not moving over to the right side to load and then start a re center-move before finishing the backswing to create even more power. Rory for example, Morikawa, Tiger, Nicklaus. To say they can do that just cause they practise more I dont get, cause why would they use a method thats not the best since they have access to all the best coaches. Just my 2 cents.
Thanks for the comment! They all certainly shift pressure right before they re-center. I am not sure what you're confused about?
@@kerrodgraygolf you said they dont move their head and that its hard with timing with a recentering move. In this video.
Great lesson, I gained yardage on my drives.
Thanks!
This sounds like stack and tilt....
I don’t agree with straightening your left leg on the turn drill
watch too many baseball games that's why it happened..
Not buying this at all! It's all about a one plane swing. If you use a two plane swing where you swing arms up and down, you can still compress the ball and hit it far. Also, it is much easier on the back!
How do you keep your head from bobbing up and down with a flat shoulder turn/plane? I can't do it. My left shoulder gets in the way, and I have to stand up to make room.
U talk too much...but less action lession...golf is not abt talking...
