My uncle is local well renowned Jazz musician. Can professionally play 7 or 8 instruments. The man eats, sleeps, and breathes music. He was never a rock guy and definitely not metal. He heard me listening to “Memory Palace” and stopped dead in his tracks to listen with me. He kept pausing and rewinding and it made me think of you lol. He made the same comparisons to Queen and The Yes. We traded bands. Now he’s gone down the BTBAM rabbit hole and I am going down The Yes hole as I have never even heard of them (absolutely love them now).
His favorite song and song that made him bring up The Yes is “Coma Machine”. Don’t even care if you don’t do a video on it. Just listen to it at your own leisure.

I remember the first time I listened to that album.. I was sitting at the table in an RV on our way to a nice little camping spot going up & down these narrow mountain roads. Watching the serenity of the nature I couldn't hear over the chaos of the music while sitting in a moving kitchen was pretty awesome and surreal. I've been into these guys since Alaska came out but when I listened to The Great Misdirect I got even more into them and have seen em a few times since then. BTBAM is fantastic live. I've been to many metal/hardcore/rock shows over the past decade and the one that will always stand out for me is when BTBAM performed from start to finish Parallax II: Future Sequence. They didn't say anything at the start of the show or during, it was just a giant performance flowing from one song into the next and it was EPIC. Sure I've enjoyed shows where I can get in the pit and thrash about or bands with incredible crowd singing moments, but this BTBAM performance was top tier.

You honestly could have picked any BTBAM songs and I would have been happy, but still you picked some great ones! The palm muting riffs at the beginning and first verse of Backwards Marathon are a couple of my favorite riffs of theirs.

@@dodgrblu lol I was able to see past it as a kid when everything else was happening around it and when the angst was present in myself as well. You can’t deny the genius being btbam. I grew up a deathcore kid. U grow out of things tho. Bands like btbam bless your existence in expanding your awareness and develop your taste and grant you appreciation for MUSIC as a whole and it’s multi faceted genres. I do hate metal vocals now and did over masterpieces these guys created, but I could still appreciate how they contribute to something like this. Modernly bands like ERRA don’t need to do it

Honestly I wish you would have just done a slow burn of the entire Colors album. There is so much meaning that is woven into the concept of the album when you look at the lyrics, flow, and complete versatility of the band; while simultaneously giving a feel of what it's like to be a schizophrenic. And sadly they just aren't a large enough band to have the budget to put visuals on the level of some of the great prog bands. Also, I know i'm gonna get some flack from this recommendation but BTBAM's cover album "The Anatomy Of" is honestly one of my absolute favorite cover albums of any band I've listened to. It really gives you some deep insight into the influences of BTBAM and really has made me appreciate their music even more.

Yessssss! I LOVE BTBAM, been listening to them since I was probably 15 and I'm now 32. They are TRULY one of the most talented bands out there. Even though they have become fairly well known, I think they deserve a WHOLE lot more of attention and fandom. I had the pleasure of seeing them live a handful of times back in the early 2000s and they were one of the few bands I've seen live (and I've seen 100s of bands)that sounded as good if not better live.

Enormous effort picking apart all the nuances across these tracks, nice work Geebz!
I've been to every live show when they come down under and there's really not a huge amount of visuals and gloss to their live shows - they really get up and just play through their sets flawlessly. I mean, they really just play their tracks and it sounds exactly like their recordings, it's such a headspin to have a band this technical perform these complex tracks so perfectly. It's what makes their shows so special.
You're always praising the bassist Dan Briggs, highly recommend you check out the song "Viridian" off their live 'Colors'; DVD - there should be a few videos on CZcams of it. The track is 3 minutes of pure bass solo which I know you'll dig. See you on the next video!

-Prequel to the Sequel is off of Colors and immediately follows Ants of the Sky. So think back to that song and you'll get a sense of why that album is talked about 15 years on.
    - The bassist said in an interview that he's of the school of Zappa in his approach (and also has a few fusion side projects)
    - I had to chuckle at the repeated "this song goes into something else".
-Finally, you make reaction videos that people like me watch all the way through. I'm here for it, man!
